Boro complete Emnes captureQUOTE Middlesbrough have completed the signing of forward Marvin Emnes from Eredivisie side Sparta Rotterdam.
The 20-year-old has joined for a fee of €4million (£3.2million) and agreed a four-year contract at The Riverside after passing a medical.
Emnes reportedly attracted interest from a number of European clubs after he scored eight goals in 26 games last term and was named as Sparta fans' player of the year.
Boro, however, have won the race to secure his signature, and manager Gareth Southgate has expressed his delight at the capture.
"We feel we have signed an exciting young player in Marvin," Southgate told the club's official website.
Enthusiastic
"Last season was his breakthrough year at Sparta Rotterdam and he ended the campaign with a flurry, scoring eight goals in his final 10 games.
"He can play anywhere across the front line, so he has versatility to go with pace, energy and technical skills.
"Marvin is very enthusiastic about coming to England and the challenge of Premier League football.
"He also fits the profile of the sort of players we want at Middlesbrough, in that he is a young player with hunger, energy and pace." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_3774055,00.htmlSpartak to snub English offerQUOTE An unnamed English club have failed in a bid to land Russia striker Roman Pavlyuchenko.
The Spartak Moscow ace is a summer target for a host of clubs after a number of eye-catching displays for his country at Euro 2008.
His two-goal salvo against England in qualifying also remains fresh in the memory of many and it has come as no surprise that Europe's top clubs are beginning to home in on the talented 26-year-old.
His current employers are bracing themselves for a battle to retain the services of their prized asset, and have made it clear that the forward will not be allowed to leave unless their valuation is met.
It is thought that the approach from the Premier League side was around the £10million mark, an offer which falls short of Spartak's demands.
Offers
The Russian outfit also confirmed that the interested party are not in the UEFA Champions League next season, a competition which Pavlyuchenko is keen to remain part of.
"We have received two offers. One of them is from an English team," said Spartak's general director Sergei Shavlo.
"Since it's not a team playing in the European Champions League we are more likely than not to reject their offer." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_3773831,00.html

Reds seal Dossena swoopQUOTE Liverpool have completed the signing of Udinese defender Andrea Dossena on a four-year deal.
The Italian full-back becomes Reds manager Rafa Benitez's second signing of the summer following the arrival of Swiss international Philipp Degen on Thursday.
The left-back will compete with Fabio Aurelio for a place in Liverpool's first XI and is viewed as a replacement for John Arne Riise, who recently moved to Roma.
Reports suggest that the 26-year-old has cost Liverpool a fee in the region of £7million.
Dossena, who has one international cap, played 63 games for Udinese and scored two goals. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_3776288,00.htmlNasri to sign in '10 days'QUOTE Marseille midfielder Samir Nasri should complete his transfer to Arsenal in around '10 days', according to the player's agent.
The playmaker has been strongly linked with a move to Emirates Stadium, with manager Arsene Wenger a keen admirer of Nasri's quality.
A deal had reportedly been struck towards the end of June after the player's official website announced the France international had secured his transfer to North London.
However, the statement proved to be premature, and was subsequently removed, sparking confusion over the progress of the switch.
Since then, Marseille have wrapped up the signing of Hatem Ben Arfa from Lyon - a move which has reportedly paved the way for Nasri's transfer to go ahead.
And the 21-year-old's agent, Jean-Pierre Bernes, has explained that he expects Nasri to seal his move to Arsenal when he returns from his holidays.
"He is on his holidays. It (the transfer) will be made when he will be back, in about 10 days," said Bernes. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_3775596,00.html

Hull seal Geovanni dealQUOTE Hull City have wrapped up the signing of Brazilian midfielder Geovanni on a free transfer.
Geovanni had been available after being released by Manchester City earlier this week following just one season with the club.
Premier League new boys Hull were quick to express an interest in the 28-year-old and have now clinched the deal.
The former Benfica player has signed a two-year contract at the KC Stadium and has joined his new team-mates at a pre-season training camp in Italy.
Excellent signing
Assistant manager Brian Horton told BBC Radio Humberside: "He's got a very good track record, so I think he'll be an excellent signing for us.
"We've heard a lot about him and spoken to quite a few people, but we saw him ourselves so we know the player."
He becomes Hull's second signing of the summer following the £750,000 capture of Craig Fagan from Derby County earlier this week.
Tigers boss Phil Brown is looking to add to his squad ahead of a first campaign in the top flight and is also keen on Stelios Giannakopoulos and Bernard Mendy.
Talks are also ongoing to sign Middlesbrough midfielder George Boateng, who is open to leaving the Riverside this summer. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_3779464,00.html

Zenit snub £19m Arshavin bidQUOTE An unnamed English club have failed with a £19million bid for Zenit St Petersburg playmaker Andrei Arshavin, according to the player's agent.
Arshavin is expected to leave Zenit this summer after an impressive showing for Russia at Euro 2008.
It has been claimed that Primera Division giants Barcelona recently had a £12million offer rejected, with further reports suggesting the Russian champions would only consider selling for twice that amount.
Premier League sides Arsenal and Chelsea have also been linked with Arshavin; however an official approach from either side has yet to be confirmed.
Arshavin's agent, though, has claimed that an English side have failed with a £19million bid.
Sales
"Barcelona failed with a £12million bid for Andrei and now an English club have had a £19million offer rejected by Zenit," agent Dennis Lachter told the Daily Express.
"Zenit want £24million, so clubs who want to sign Andrei will have to get closer to that figure.
"I believe they will because there are clubs interested in Andrei who are trying to sell players first.
"The figure is not easy to reach, but the transfer activity is beginning to happen and I am optimistic he will join a big club.
"I don't know exactly when Andrei's future will be resolved, but we have until the end of August, so we are both fairly relaxed." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_3800750,00.html

Villa seal Sidwell dealQUOTE Aston Villa have completed the signing of Steve Sidwell from Chelsea.
Sidwell has put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal at Villa Park after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.
A number of clubs were keen on signing Sidwell, but Villa have won the race for the 25-year-old.
Sidwell decided to leave Chelsea after failing to establish himself at Stamford Bridge following his free transfer from Reading last summer.
The former England Under 21 international is Villa boss Martin O'Neill's first signing of the summer and his arrival could pave the way for Gareth Barry to make the move to Liverpool.
Sidwell is delighted to have signed for Villa and is excited about the prospects at the club.
"I'm just over the moon to be able to join a club of this stature," Sidwell told Sky Sports News.
"Obviously, after a hard year for myself to finally get a chance now to play football and enjoy it, he's (O'Neill) got me looking forward to it.
"It's dragged on for a while from the initial approach and, obviously, the media attention. Now it's been done, it's been a long saga, but I'm over the moon and can't wait to meet my new team-mates, the manager, put my boots on and get out on the field.
"It was a case of as soon as I had the meeting with the manager and sitting down and talking to him, and seeing what direction him and the chairman are looking to take the football club and how well they had done last year, it was very easy.
"I'm looking forward to being among a good mixture of players that they've got here and hopefully there will be a few more additions to come.
"Obviously I had great times last year with there being Champions League football. There is a chance now to play in Europe and it's still a fantastic competition to go ahead in.
"I'm sure the manager is going to want to do well just as much as the players. To play in Europe and to play some of the best teams in Europe is what you strive for as a football player. To get the chance to do it would be fantastic." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_3802395,00.html

Crouch makes Pompey move QUOTE Peter Crouch insists his best is yet to come after joining Portsmouth from Liverpool for a fee believed to be in the region of £11million.
Crouch underwent a medical on Friday morning before he was officially unveiled at a press conference shown live on Sky Sports News.
The England striker scored 19 goals in 39 matches in his first spell at Portsmouth in the 2001/02 season before moving on to Aston Villa and then Southampton.
And after ending his three-year stay at Liverpool, Crouch is now looking forward to the challenge at Portsmouth and he admits the club has undergone a sweeping transition since his previous period at Fratton Park.
Fantastic
"It's fantastic to be back and the club is going places," said Crouch. "I've worked here before and he (Redknapp) gets the best out of me. I'm pleased to be back.
"The best is still to come in my career and it will be here at Portsmouth.
"They have built a good side and there have been big changes. The club is unrecognisable to the last time I was here.
"It is a very strong side which can compete against anyone. The club is moving forward."
New signings
It is now expected the 27-year-old will link up with England colleague Jermain Defoe in attack as Pompey manager Harry Redknapp looks to improve on last season's FA Cup victory and eighth-placed Premier League finish.
"I'm delighted to have Peter back," added Redknapp. "He's a terrific player and I never expected to see him back here.
"He's an established England international and to bring him back is a real coup. He has great all-round ability. He's not in the England team for nothing."
Redknapp has also hinted that the arrival of Crouch will not be the last of his activity in the transfer market as Pompey continue to look for new signings ahead of this season's Uefa Cup campaign.
"We're always looking to improve and we'll see where we go. We'll keep looking around," concluded Redknapp. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_3805782,00.htmlArsenal seal Nasri captureQUOTE Arsenal have completed the signing of Marseille playmaker Samir Nasri for an undisclosed fee.
The Gunners have confirmed the capture, with the France international penning a long-term contract at Emirates Stadium.
A deal had reportedly been struck towards the end of June after the player's official website announced the 21-year-old had secured his transfer to North London.
However, the statement proved to be premature, and was subsequently removed, sparking confusion over the progress of the switch.
But now the former Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year has sealed his protracted move to Arsenal for a reported fee in the region of £12million. Massive club
Nasri told the club's official website: "I'm very happy to become an Arsenal player, it means such a lot to me. This is a very important step in my life as a football player because Arsenal is a massive club.
"I really hope everything will go well for me here. I will my best for Arsenal and its fans and I am honoured to be part of such a great football club."
Manager Arsene Wenger added: "We are delighted to be signing Samir Nasri. He is young, quick and technically an outstanding player.
"He has shown great potential with his performances for Marseille and the French national team over the past two seasons and he will add great quality to our squad."
