without petronas, utp is just a normal ipts. because most graduates manages to secure job with petronas, that why statistic shows most of their graduates manage to secure job within 6months after graduate.
for engineering, UTM is more well known and reputable U. I've been there many times, and I can say that the facilities is 1st class. moreover, they have  you can stay in the hostel from 1st year till final year. not to mention reasonable fees.

gor UM, their engineering is not famous. they are more famous in science and medical.

seriously, if you wanna work in the O&G industry, go UTP.

need to do another interview before you can work with petronas, same as haliburton and schlumberger, not 100% get the job.

Hi all juz a question regarding three Universities...... they are UTM, UM AND UTP. Which one is better? This is mainly because i just browsed list for the top 100 Universities in South East Asia. UTM was ranked 15, UM was ranked 19 while UTP got 91. I was wondering that UTP should be better but how come?Erm guys plz voice out your opinion!

senang je nak compare..

i heard those who scored 9a n above have to sat for an interview juz for scholarship. but if u have money, u can also enter utp. of course need to check each course requirement for what course ur taking. general speaking, if this kind of options, i will choose the best programme learning structure provided for each uni. everybody knows that 3 of this uni are great, prestige and well known and have good facilities. ipta; utm n usm kinda old timer eng. uni so no need an intro la for both uni. utp is great in term of facilities becoz petronas mmg byk duit maa..

so, here the programme structure for each uni:

utp vs utm vs usm

all the programme structure above r refer to pure mechanical for easier comparison. now let we see how each uni organizes their programme structure and we can know which uni offers great programme outcome.

utp vs utm vs usm:

sem 1: utp and utm r both kinda the same programme. utp has no lab (student dont use lab/workshop yet). utp offers intro to o&g subject which we can already know pure mechanical in utp is focus for o&g industry (everybody knows that). DE (differential eq) kinda "heavy" for those who not familiar with calculus. matrix stpm/dip students with high pointer should have no problem with it. while for utm, they offer lab 1, (student need to make experiment/report in the lab). for usm, the total credits for this sem only 14. no statics at 1st sem?? aiyakk...really slow la this uni. only 14 credits?? of course student can score high pointer maa..

sem 2: all of uni offer programming but i dont know what software that being used in utp n usm. utm use c/c++ and matlab. utp offers manufacturing process/tech in this sem + material science. aiyak utp, u really crazy ka?? 2 ni subject hafal2 tau, penin la student nanti. whistling.gif btw, according to my lecturer, they should teach material science 1st becoz student will have strong basic in properties of material then we can applied it to manufacturing process on how to make product from it. u need to know what kind of material u going to use 1st, then u will know what the best manufacturing process for that kind of material. thats why some uni offer material science 1st then manufacturing process. but utp also ok la, offering both in the same sem sweat.gif orait next, we can see utm offer dynamics + fluid 1. now that quite dangerous here. let say u fail statics (1st sem), u already missed 2 subjects in the next sem. u need to repeat statics and of course u will extend another 1year. (maybe 1 sem only if has short sem). usm kinda "fast" here and i really dont understand why the heck fluid + statics in the same sem??? rclxub.gif if u cant understand statics, u can never understand fluid maa.. fluid 1 is all about force, pressure in fluid flow, u need to know what basic formula (in statics) so u can apply it on fluid 1

sem 3: utp offer thermo + fluid + solid in the same sem, really heavy ooo.. 4/6 subjects all about calculation, CAD of course can score A punya la. kalo CAD pun gagap, pyh ni nk jadi engineer. while utm, 4/6 subject were calculation subject, elect.tech kinda easy la, only basic formula applied. finally, usm offer lab 1 (student can go to lab make experiment and report). utp sill no use any lab la n 1st year, membazir saja utp buat byk facilities.. (plz some1 can give me confirmation about utp: 1year no use any lab or workshop ka?? need input from utp student)

enough for now, really tired la morning2 ni. nanti free aku sambung.. wink.gif

lol stop fighting to support your uni... be mature pls.

utp and utm are both high ranked uni actually. utp got low ranks because they view in terms of popularity, no. of scholars, etc.

I think every IPTA has their own specilize..no matter which 1 is good as long as u make ur CGPA higher 1st..That is more important rather than jugde which 1 IPTA is the good 1.

agree with you...
i'm a UTPian myself, there are pros n cons here in UTP...
i bet others Uni also have pros n cons..
just as long as u have the DESIRE to study, you should be just fine no matter which Uni you go..

It doesn't matter which uni you got to coz it all depends on YOU. I know people who go to unraked "ciplak" colleges (no offence) still come out tops and work really well in the industry and manage to secure jobs and be successful in what they do. i know idiots (no offence again) who come out from top ranking unis and still end up jobless.

I believe that what you learn in uni is nothing compared to what you're gonna do in real life. Uni is just a transition place for you to grow and mature, a place where you learn the reality of teamwork and hardwork, a place that prepares you for the job world.

I'm just applying like 1% of the knowledge i learnt in classes in uni. i joined the workforce and i had to learn everything from scratch. but it was easy coz i've been conditioned to do this for 5 years already, learn new stuff from scratch every semester.

Btw, i'm from UTP and it is not true that all UTP students get to work with Petronas. Petronas does not hire exclusively from UTP, they're very picky about who they choose so how well you do in the interviews is very important. UTP is a bit new to the uni scene so it ranks quite far down if compared to older more established unis like UTM and UM.

I say just choose a uni you can afford or get scholarship from and follow your ambition. Be a good boy/girl, have fun and don't waste your youth, make friends, be active, work in teams, be outstanding, don't fail your exams, and get your degree. A degree is just your ticket into the working stage which is a whole new ball game altogether.

enjoy yourself

and make friends and talk often with your lecturers

mereka tak makan orang lah, k?

selalu saya nampak, orang yang asyik sendiri akan pergi jumpa lecturer untuk berborak and berbincang yang akan duduk kat jawatan tinggi paling laju.

utp better than local unis, all of them.
most of them  doh.gif from rank 80+ something, can go to 300+ something  doh.gif
in the world list of university.
totally destroy our education system.

Go UTP as 1st priority.
then UTM
last UM.

UM's curriculum in engineering is highly theoretical, at least during my time. They produce students that can rattle off EM wave formula or something, but lacking in practical knowledge. In engineering, practical knowledge trumps theories. That's not necessarily a bad thing though. But UM together with USM always attract the best pool of students.

I hope things have changed since I left UM. I can see Dr Ghauth is a very pragmatic and visionary leader. He works hard too.

1.May I know which IPTA is recommended for EEE and Computer Science?
2.Many IPTAs have a separate course Electrical Engineering and Electronic Engineering. How to decide which to take?
