Calling all iPhone owners! smile.gif
I would like your help in building this tips and tricks guide on the iPhone functionalities. I would basically cover tips found while using my iPhone or read from forums/books. Areas to be covered are like keyboard, springboard, etc. Any tips recommended by you people, will be added here and credited on your nick. notworthy.gif
Let's start!

iPhone 1.0 Tips

Phone Tips
Avoid answering calls
To stop an incoming call from ringing, press the sleep/wake button. To send the call immediately to voice mail, press the sleep/wake button twice.

Rebooting your iPhone
Pretend for a moment that your iPhone suddenly becomes unresponsive. Pushing the Home button does nothing. Hitting the On/Off button produces the same discouraging result. What do you do? Apples first reset tip is to press and hold the Home button for about six seconds to quit any application that might have locked up your iPhone. If that doesnt work, trying pressing and holding both Home and On/Off; after about 10 seconds the Apple logo will appear.

Alternative method of "Slide to Unlock" (Credits to CoolerMR)
This method uses 2 fingers where there might be some event where we couldn't slide to unlock. Place 1 finger at the most left of the bar and then tap another 2 finger at the most right of the bar (the 1 finger need to release before 2 finger).

Fastest way to check a working wifi connection
If the Stocks or Weather apps are updated automatically, it means you are connected to wifi.

Battery saving tips (Credits to llllll)

Home button
If you press the Home button twice, by default the Favourites screen will be displayed. This setting can be changed under Settings > General > Home Button.

Adding custom ringtone by using iTunes

Modding your GUI into Silver/Chromium (Credits to smokepsp32)

To solve the low or no signal issue (Credits to smokepsp32)
Using the "scotch tape fix" where you just put the scotch tape on the back of your simcard so it will not move inside the simcard slot.

SMS Tips
A quicker way to delete SMS
Press on the SMS icon at your spring board. For each SMS under "Text Messages", just slide through from left to right or right to left and the Delete icon will be displayed. Press on the delete button to delete the particular SMS.

Alternative way to add contact before SMS (Credits to Apis_LuaLua)
When writing new sms, instead of we tapping the "+" button to add contact for the recipient, all we need is just write contact name and the list of names will appear.

To immediately stop sending SMS while sending them (Credits to GaussSeidel)
When you press the "Send" button and realized that you want to cancel it, just press the "Sleep" or "Wake" button to lock your iPhone and immediately after that you unlock it back by pressing the same button n slide it. It will then show the same message you type just before you press the "Send" button.

Keyboard Tips
Auto insert "." by double tapping space
Make sure the "." shortcut is enable under "Settings > General > Keyboard". Now while typing, just double tap the space button and it will automatically place a "." for you.

CAPS LOCK feature
To use the CAPS LOCK feature, enable it in 'general settings.' To use it, double-tap on the shift key and the shift key will turn blue.

Disabling auto correction
http://iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=493
*Note that if you disable auto correct, the auto insert "." by double tapping space tip above doesn't work anymore.

Auto correction tricks
- Type "welll" (3 L's) and the iPhone will auto correct to "We'll"
- Type "itsa" and the iPhone will auto correct to "It's"
- Type "weree" (2 E's) and the iPhone will auto correct to "We're"

Editing typos (Credits to Imzadi)
To edit a typo in while typing, keep your finger pressed on the screen until a magnifying glass comes out and then move the cursor to place to edit the typo.

Fast switching between Punctuation layout and ABC layout (Credits to c_calvin)
Touch the .?123 key, but dont lift your finger as the punctuation layout appears. Slide your finger a half inch onto the period or comma key, and release. The ABC layout returns automatically.

To get the international domain extensions on the [.com] key (e.g .co.uk, .fr, etc)

Safari Tips
Go Straight to the Top (Credits to c_calvin)
When viewing a long Web page, if you want to get back to the top, or access Safaris address field, you dont have to scroll all the way up; instead, just tap on the gray status bar at the top of the iPhones screen. Youll be immediately transported to the top of the current Web page.

Find out where those links go
When in Safari, holding your fingertip down on a link instead of tapping it produces an information balloon that displays the underlying URL.

Page Down function
When in Safari, double tap right below of the screen before the navigation bar and the page would scroll like a page down function.

Zoom and Unzoom function
When in Safari, double tap on the location you wanted to zoom and it will zoom to fit the whole screen. Double tap again to unzoom back to previous setting.

Scroll in Boxes on a Web Page
If you encounter a scrolling box or list while surfing on your iPhone in Safari and you try to scroll with your finger, you'll find that the entire page scrolls, instead of just the box. The trick is to scroll such areas with two fingers.

Spring Board Tips
Moving icons (only works for firmware 1.1.3 and above)
Press and hold any of the desired icons on spring board for 2 seconds and you notice all icons starts to wiggle. Move the icon to any desired position and press the Home button to confirm position. smile.gif

Calendar icon (Credits to BigFoot-X)
The Calendar Icon changes according to the actual date.

Camera Tips
To take self-portrait pictures (Credits to Imzadi)
When taking a picture with your iPhone, keep your finger on the shutter button, line up your shot, only then release the shutter button.

Good positioning to take self-portrait pictures (Credits to nokia2003)
If you can fit one and half eyes into the shiny apple logo at the back casing, you can be almost certain that you are on the right track to success!

iPod Tips (Music and Videos)
Quicker way to delete videos on iPod. (Credits to alang)
Just swipe you finger from left to right or right to left on any of the video listed and the delete button appear (just like SMS).

Alternative way in bringing up the iPod control (Credits to Choongster)
You can bring up the iPod control by double clicking on your HOME button without unlocking your phone.

Controlling iPod using iPhone earphones (Credits to Choongster)
Using the original iPhone earphones, clicking on the mic button once, you can pause your music. Click again to resume play or double clicking it will skip to the next track.

Contacts Tip
Alternative method to scroll for contacts (Credits to Acquiesce)
When viewing your contact, you could quickly scroll to the alphabets you need by scrolling on the alphabets on the right.

Clock Tip
Switching off alarm
As we know to snooze the alarm, we just click on the snooze button. However if you want to off the alarm completely, you can just scroll to unlock.

Stocks Tip
Easy toggle between numbers and %
At the stocks page, tap on the %/numbers to toggle between those formats.

TS, not sure if that's called a "Shutter Button"! Change the wordings around if you want. I've met a few people with iPhones that don't know this and end up having not-so-nice shots!

McCallums Awesome iPhone Period-Typing Shortcut
iPhone: The Missing Manual

By David Pogue

The punctuation keys and alphabet keys appear in two different keyboard layouts.

So every time you want to type a period or a comma, its a three-step, awkward dance: (1) Tap the .?123 key in the lower left to summon the punctuation layout. (2) Type the period. (3) Type the ABC key in the lower left to return to the alphabet layout.

Imagine how excruciating it is to type, for example, a P.O. Box in the U.S.A.! Thats 34 finger taps and 10 mode changes!

And therefore imagine how thrilled I was to receive an email from reader Andrew McCallum, containing a method of typing a period or a comma with only a SINGLE finger gesture.

The iPhone doesnt register most key presses until you *release* your finger. But Andrew discovered that the Shift and Punctuation keys register their taps on the *press-down* instead.

So heres what you can do, all in one motion:

1. Touch the .?123 key, but dont lift your finger as the punctuation layout appears.

2. Slide your finger a half inch onto the period or comma key, and release.

Incredibly, the ABC layout returns automatically. Youve typed a period or a comma with one finger touch instead of three. In fact, you can type ANY of the punctuation symbols the same way.

This makes a HUGE difference in the usability of the keyboard.

Quicker way to delete movies on iPod.

Just swipe you finger from left to right and the delete button appear (just like SMS).

Before I know this tricks, whenever I want to delete video that I already watched, I will connect to itunes, and manually delete it from there.

there is like the phone icon, ipod icon, ... can these icons be changed or removed?
*
As far as I know, you can't remove icons but you could hide icons. This can be done by downloading the app called "Customized" from installer.
To change the icon appearance, you can get the app "Summerboard".

if you are trying to remove the icons from the bottom dock, you just need to drag them out from the dock when in icon arrange mode, or you can replace them with any of your preferred applications icons.

"How to save WEP password?"

When u connect with wifi that require u to put in the 'key', the 'key' will be save automatically until to tap the 'forget this network'. The key is unique to every Access Point. So if u go to a new place and never connected to it then it will ask again for the key unless last time u tap the 'forget this network'.

Use wifi fix only if your wifi got problem i.e can't connect or greyed-out wifi. If not then don't use it.

dunno whether dis has been posted or not. but if u guys using standard sms apps notice dat we can't cancel sms when the button "send" is pressed. it will jz proceed to progress bar until finish.

but i found one way to stop the sending process. when u press the "send" button n realized dat u want to cancel it, juz press sleep/wake button to lock n immediately after dat u unlock it back by pressing the same button n slide it. it will then show the same message u type jz before u press the "send" button.

hope this helps!

Customise the conversion setting by the screen resolution, bitrate & the audio bitrate, those will affect the size and quality of a converted movie format.

let say i set the reso 480x320, what the acceptable audio/ video rate?
i dont want to get result where scene fast/ slower than sound..  laugh.gif
*
480x320 screen resolution, video bitrate: 1000(or lower if you want smaller file size), Fram rate: 29.97, Audio Bitrate: 56 (or lower), Sample Rate: 48000 & Channel: 2 (Stereo).

If you follow the settings above it will be good enough for a DVD or movie conversion.

i always wonder why most the apps doesnt have a quit/exit button...it is quite unconvicing knowing that if u wan to quit an app u juz press the home button....but whether or not the app really quit or still works in the background we wont know until we look at sysinfo...apple should have added exit button for all of the programs...
*
Dont worry... iphone apps are straight foward. on is on and terminate is terminate... only certain progs that keeps its string to run and hanging on others like services and anything similar which is not a bad thing... y? too used to wm device? no... its totaly diff... iphone progs = 1 do 1... wm based apps = 1 do many. Thats why many conflicts cos of priority..

Oh... Tips and tricks
Well, i got one but maybe its not important.... during browsing picture either from rolls or albums, picture will be auto rotating all the time which is a very2 nice feature apple have made and same goes to other device nowdays... but some picture (normaly imported from pc/mac) is not displaying accordingly for instance, a potrait pic which displayed lanscape on iphone. When you rotate iphone to view the pic in a correct position, its autorotating and you never get the chance to view that pic in a correct posture unless you hurt your neck blush.gif .... well, to avoid picture auto rotating, just touch that screen and turn ur iphone to whatever position without releasing that thumb on screen earlier on. It will stick on its current possition. To release, just untouch it or apply some gesture to any direction..

Here's another iPhone trick where you can play the mono music through your existing Bluetooth headset with a simple little change in your audio output options:
1) Pair your Bluetooth headset with your iPhone - we're not gonna get into the specifics, just do it.
2) Go to your Voicemail and hit the "Audio" button (when the iPhone is not paired with a headset, this button will say "Speaker."
3) Choose your headset in the subsequent audio selection dialog.
4) Get to your homescreen and hit the iPod icon.
5) Start playing a song and revel in the Bluetooth headset

Inform me if this been posted before and I will delete this post.

This thread certainly has been "salah guna".. Thus, i am now referring back this thread to what it should be.. rolleyes.gif

Just wanna share with iphone users who yet to know this..

In Safari Web Browser.. To Zoom In, instead of double tap on screen (result to too far zoom in).. we can manually adjust the zoom in level by Hold one finger on the screen, and use other finger to scrool to right slowly to manually adjust the zoom in level

Enjoy better way of surfing.. icon_rolleyes.gif

Cheers

FYI, customizing ringtones can be done directly from your iPhone by choosing your song from your iPod. Just Install Phonezap(for ringtones) or "Ringtones"(for ringtones & message tones).

Not sure if it's posted earlier in this thread, if so then sorry upfront.

With firmware 2.0, u can now capture screenshots of your iPhone screen by pressing Home + Power (at the top) simultaneously. Your screen will flash for a sec and the photo then saved to your Camera Roll.

Hope that's useful.

iPhone 2.0's backup screws your life for taking long time to finish?

A quick fix:

1. - Quit iTunes.
2. - Open Terminal.app
3. - Copy and paste this in, then hit return: defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true
4. - Open iTunes
5. - Plug in your iPhone (2.0 or 3G) and sync.

Caveats:
- You have no backup... can't restore data...
- If you use programs like SMS Log or Phone Log by Markspace - it will most likely stop working... because it uses backup as base for sync.

Have fun...

Another tip to share. Try double-pressing on the Home button when your iPhone goes into sleep mode (i.e. when the screen goes blank) or in the "slide to unlock" state.

You should get an ipod control interface to access your music directly without having to "slide to unlock" and go into ipod mode.

This only works when you had a song playing in ipod mode and u had it on pause.

Hope that's useful.

OK, I just tried it and can now confirm that the custom ringtone hack still works on firmware 2.0, itunes 7.7 and iphone 3G.

ringtones must be < 30 sec, AAC encoded (*.m4a) and then extension changed to *.m4r and open with itunes. thereafter, will appear under ringtones in itunes and just sync.

Here's a tool that i would like to share with all of you. Its a tool that enable you to use SSH without wifi. It uses the USB cable for the connection. Great news for people with no wifi. This is for WINDOWS user only.

iPhone Tunnel Suite

Requirement:
• Open SSH installed through Installer or Cydia
• iPhone Tunnel Suite
• Latest version of. Net Framework

Functions:
• Connecting via SSH to an iPhone / iPod Touch, all without the need of WiFi and with the need of only USB cable.
• Client WinSCP integrated (included in the iPhone Tunnel Suite)
• Client Putty integrated (included in the iPhone Tunnel Suite)

Here's the guide on how to use it:

1. First, downloading it from here. http://www.makkiaweb.net/itunnel/download.html
2. Go ahead with the installation with the exe files:
3. Installation took place, then you can run the suite. Launch SSH in iPhone / iPod as well.
4. You will find a screen that shows only 3 buttons, first launch "iPhone Tunnel" that will establish a connection to your iPhone / iPod via the USB cable, then make sure to have it connected via USB. If you have not connected the iPhone close the tunnel screen (which is entitled "Launcher.exe"), connect the equipment and launch it again.
5. You can now use WinSCP client and Putty respectively for the file transfer and use of terminal line (Recommended). Within WinSCP there is already a profile called iPhone for the connection, then just click on connect (accedi Italian) to start the communication between the computer and the device.
Note: The WinSCP Client in the program is in Italian , but you can use your own by changing the language, just set up as follows:
• IP Address: 127.0.0.1
• Port: 22
• Username: root
• Password: alpine
5. Now you are Connected. using WinSCP as if you were connected via WiFi , have fun!

Just like to add this before it is lost again in the depths of the forum,

To add your carrier's voicemail single dial tap to the "Voicemail" button on your iPhone (2G/3G):-

1. You need to first get your carrier's voicemail number.
2. Click on your iPhone's phone button.
3. Then click on the Keypad tab.
4. You need to then add the following code: *5005*86*xxx#. Here xxx would be your voicemail number.
4. After entering the code you tap call.
5. This results in the code being set.
6. Thats all, tap now on the voicemail button and it should automatically call your usual voicemail service.

Celcom's voicemail is 1313, so you need to call *5005*86*1313#.

Saw this tips on the net:

Preview has an Import function that allows you to grab images from various sources. If you choose, in Preview, File > Import Image while your iPhone is plugged in, will open a new window with all of the photos on your iPhone camera roll. You can then select photos and choose Import and the photos will open in Preview, thus allowing you to save or export photos from your iPhone without using iPhoto or Image Capture.

not too sure if this is classified as tips and trick, but an own personal experiment of mine found that the keyboard addon (could be found in cydia as well) on 2.0.1 lags the ENTIRE system (for example sms, safari typing etc) considerably.

i have been using the MBA keyboard addon since 1.1.4 and there isn't any problem, but to my horror that for 2.0.1 it doesn't compute that way.

it is pretty simple to come out with a conclusion for 2.0.1. with the existence of winterboard, one can tick or un-tick the keyboard add-on and observe the vast lag time improvement.

you can't do that amigo (unless there is a new 3rd party app which i have not heard of before)

your best bet is to probably to use the nokia pcsuite to transfer from outlook (PC) to a nokia phone.

Found a solution from a webstie to disable the iphone backup function for both Windows and Mac.

Ever since version 1.0, the iPhone has automatically backed itself up every time an iTunes sync was started. The feature makes sense on a phone and has definitely saved my bacon quite a few times. However, with the iPhone 2.0 update, the backup feature has gotten arguably out of hand. Most users report obnoxiously long backup times which make it extremely frustrating to refresh your iPhone's information.
So if you're tired of automatic backups that take forever, here's how to disable them.

For Windows users:
First, grab a copy of NotePad++[U]. The standard apps that come with Windows won't work well for editing the iTunesPrefs.xml file.
To apply this hack, you'll be editing the iTunesPrefs.xml, which is generally found at C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes. You may need to enable hidden folders if you don't see the "Application Data" folder.

1) Quit iTunes

2) Make a backup of iTunesPrefs.xml. If you mess up, you'll wish you had a backup, so it's a good idea to make one.

3) Open iTunesPrefs.xml using Notepad++

4) Search for "User Preferences" without the quotes and you should find something like "<key>User Preferences</key>"

5) Right below the first <dict> that comes after "<key>User Preferences</key>", paste the following:

<key>AutomaticDeviceBackupsDisabled</key>
<data>
dHJ1ZQ==
</data>

Your results should look something like this:

Before
user posted image

After
user posted image

6) Save the file and open iTunes. If all went well, your iPhone will sync, but it won't back up. To back up manually, right click your iPhone in the source list and choose "Back Up".

For Mac Users
Things are a little easier here. :]

Why not just press Win+R, paste the following command and click OK?

Code:
"%CommonProgramFiles%\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\defaults.exe" write com.apple.iTunes AutomaticDeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true

That's exactly the same as Mac method, it works with any version of iTunes.

To undo, just replace true with false.

We haven't gotten around to jailbreaking our own yet, but this one is supposedly even easier than the official NetShare tethering app in the official App Store. mmm...now this is a tip for some people that as silly as me that deleted contacts and images (or even wipe the iphone by restore).
previously i've posted the question on the forum here,
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

and here,
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

consider this case. u gave your iPhone to someone else to use for months (uncle, aunt, brother, sister, friend, gf, bf, etc etc), and he/she haven't performed any sync to the computer for months (myb this sounds ridiculous, but it's still possible, like my case). and he/she has added hundreds of contacts, and thousands of photos snapped. suddenly someone select Erase All Contents and Settings, or myb restored it on the computer. and the contents are all deleted.

and now i've just repaired my other experiment iPhone (previously the upper part of the screen wasn't responding to touch), so then i proceed using the guide that i forgot from where i read it (and i read it for months ago)

so then these are the requirements,
ON THE IPHONE
- OpenSSH
- Installer > BSD Subsystem / UNIX Subsystem. If u previously haven't installed Installer then don't worry. get QuickPwn and select only Installer on the menu.
- Mobile Terminal
- If using early version of firmware (1.x) then myb u wanna consider SU fix if your BSD got prob with SU.

HARDWARE (dunno if this is the right term)
- Wireless router, or any public wifi, but make sure first that u can perform SSH (dunno if it's possible via ad-hoc, i'm no techno geek)
- Your laptop charger (if u r doing it outside), as the the iPhone drive image can easily takes 3 hours +/-. don't forget your iPhone cable too.

SOFTWARE
- Photorec
- Any SSH application, preferably running from Mac OSX or Linux

1st, make sure your iPhone is prepared for the procedure. make sure it has been installed with the required apps, and don't forget your computer too. and makesure u have enabled file sharing / SSH on the computer.

now there are 2 steps of recovering the files on the iPhone, getting the image file and analysing image file.

::Retrieving Drive Image From The iPhone::
1. Make sure u have connected via wifi, and try to perform ssh from the computer to the iPhone firsthand. use Cyberduck or any application u prefer to connect the computer to the iPhone. apart from testing that u already got the right address (which can be done via ping), u can also enable the SSH connection through both the devices in case u haven't performed SSH before (certs, credentials, etc etc, i dunno much bout that). now kill the SSH.
2. On your iPhone, start Mobile Terminal. make sure u have performed su first and entered the password first to gain root of your iPhone. and then perform the dd command to the target computer u wanna dump the iPhone image to. so these are what it will roughly look like, the italics one is the command that u entered,

<iPhone Name>:~ mobile$ su
Password : alpine
<iPhone Name>:/var/mobile root# dd if=/dev/disk0 | ssh <username>@<computer-ip> 'dd of=iphone-dump.img'
Password : login to the particular username on the computer

u can put the dump anywhere u want. if u do like what i've typed, the file will appear under User folder on your Mac.
Note : it will not show any progress bar of file transferred on the iPhone, nor the computer itself. it will only show the bytes transferred after the transfer is completed on the iPhone. so if u want to track the file transfer, just check the size of the image file generated on your computer from time to time to make sure the transfer run smooth
Attention! : as the transfer is really time consuming, the connection tends to time out after u have transferred around 1 GB of image dump. to counter this, make sure u do this,
> Exit Mobile Terminal
> On the iPhone, go to Settings > Wi-Fi, and go back to home. Make sure from time to time (myb every 15-30 minutes), u repeat this. as u r detecting wireless network, it will keep your connection from timeout. btw myb there's another software that can prevent network timeout but i'm trying to reduce the probability of having the files i'm intending to recover from being permanently overwrite.

after u have your iPhone drive image fully copied to your computer, now is the second phase which is,

::Analysing The Image File::
Now we are doing the recovery. nope, u can't just mount the image file. u can start with using Photorec. it's free. forgot where the address is, just google for it. it comes with testdisk application.
this software is command line only. another thing is u can't just run the executable, u need to run the proper command from the terminal.

1. make sure u have created a folder as for destination of recovered files. i just create a folder on the desktop.
2. Now start the Terminal on the computer. just run <directory of your photorec extracted>/photorec iphone-dump.img
3. U will perform su and enter the password. select the file type u want to recover, also u can select either u want to retrieve corrupted files too (if u want to further analyse it, i dunno how to do that). point it to the right folder that u already made as destination of the files, and then start recovery.
4. after finished, u can start checking on your recovered files.

Note : Due to firmware 2.x presets that it fully wipes the data on the iPhone on restore, most probably u wont get your data back if that feature is enabled. the feature can be disabled if u opt out for full wipe when creating custom firmware in Pwnage or WinPwn.

u can only do this if u set the video as Music Video. when u open the music video under Playlist / Artist / Album menu, it will show the video on the album art area.

what's more, u can double tap to view it full size of the album art area.

and of course u can view it fullscreen as usual by turning it 90 degrees,

and yea, of course u can double tap it again,

In firmware 2.1, you can play the video not only in 1 direction of 90 degree but also in the other way round. Rotate left or right to view your video how you like it and comfortable with.

you can try fring, even though IMHO oneConnect is the best free IM app that you can grasp now. however it is currently only available to yahoo users (but no harm importing your contacts into a new yahoo account i suppose?)

Not sure if this was mentioned but anyways..

Those of us who use a Mac with their iPhone probably grab photos using iPhoto. It's an obvious choice since your Mac already comes with it. However, if you have a lot of photos, you may not necessarily want to fire up iPhoto to import one or two pictures from your iPhone.

Instead of iPhoto, try using Image Capture. It's light-weight, straight forward, and it's included on your Mac. Best of all, you can simply drag a photo out of Image Capture right onto your desktop.

Web Apps Can Mimic Real Apps

user posted image

What you are you seeing in these screenshots may seem like a real iPhone application, but it's not. It's a web page displayed in full screen, completely out of Safari, behaving and looking exactly as any native iPhone program would do. The best thing: It is not a new feature of the incoming iPhone OS 2.2 update: The secret feature is "hidden" in the current 2.1 version and only requires one thing: HTML code embedded in the web page itself. No iPhone modification is required. If you are browsing this from the iPhone, you can try it yourself very easily:

1. Open this link using safari - http://webapp.net.free.fr/Demo/Index.html

2. Click on the + icon and add the page to the iPhone home screen.

3. Go out and click on the saved application.

Added on November 4, 2008, 6:58 pmWays to back up photo from Photo Library

Download iThmbConv.exe from Here

Step 1

There are also a couple files that you need to download off of your iPhone before you can convert them. Use a program like iPhoneBrowser or iBrickr.

The files are:
Photo Database
F3004_1.ithmb
F3008_1.ithmb
F3009_1.ithmb
F3011_1.ithmb

They are located at:
/var/Mobile/Media/Photos/
and
/var/Mobile/Media/Photos/Thumbs

Step 2

Copy all five files and the program to:
C:\tmp
(Note: the directory is not important, but this is for simplicity.)

Step 3

Click Start > Run.
Type "cmd" and hit enter.
This will bring up the command prompt.

Step 4

Now you need to navigate to the folder that you downloaded the five files at.
Type "cd c:\tmp" and hit enter.

Step 5

Now type "iThmbConv.exe"
There will be a list of examples on how to use the program.

Step 6

Type "iThmbConv c:\tmp\F3008_1.ithmb" and hit enter.
Note: be sure that this file is the largest one you downloaded, if it isn't, choose the one that is.

Step 7

You will now have a bunch of files in your tmp directory that have a .ppm extension.
You can open these files using Photoshop and save them as you want.
You could even use a batch to convert them all at one time.

Or you can use irFanview to view and convert the *.ppm files ..
