QUOTE(zainframe @ May 2 2008, 12:10 PM) Guys, That's a common problem. Won't worry about it, Sony should issue a fix soon.I just bought shoot-em-up BD hoping to test my 7.1 setup with PS3 firmware 2.3. PS3 indicates that it is decoding DTS-MA 7.1 but my amp says it's getting MPCM 5.1 streams. There is no sound coming out from the rear surround speakers (the rest of the 5.1 channels are ok). I read on some AV forums that there's a bug in firmware 2.3 that prevents a 7.1 output for BD titles from New Line Cinema (the ones that are encoded with DTA-MA 7.1). Anyone having the same problem? Any news on yet another firmware upgrade (most of the discussion tends to conclude that it's a firmware issue). QUOTE(megatron007 @ May 2 2008, 02:05 PM) Dr. M,My rumah anak yatim hasn't arrive ar? |

QUOTE(whistleon @ May 6 2008, 10:25 PM) The prices at Amazon.com always changes, just like Tesco/Carrefour.When you see increase in price, it's not actually increased, just going back to their normal selling price, which Amazon always maintain at least 30% off the retail price. Once in a while they drop it a few bucks at limited time. Even if you bought at a higher price than what they are currently offering, you can ask for the price difference to be refunded (if the purchase is within 30 days). |

QUOTE(hackwire @ May 7 2008, 10:05 AM) im making my statement on my own experience with kastam and they told me to order abit on different package, those taukeh can lepas for 2K must be amusing. let me know who are they, i need to talk to them on how to kow tim, i want to place RM 100o for blu ray.. let me know who..less than RM 500 no tax is a confirm thing, it was written on the custom form..i got proof lah. i bring out the proof of my previous order if u want to take me for a drink. Hackwire, tax free for order less than RM 500 I'm not saying that's you're wrong, maybe that's the written rule. This all based on my own and other forumers experience. Like RX said, there are fellow forumers here that was taxed by kastam only for 2 BDs. Myself, six years of ordering from Amazon.com, I never kena. Some valued thousands ringgit in one package. And there are some who does bulk almost every week! So the kastam people never follow rules one, only suka hati... That's why we're saying it depends on your own nasib. Standard or express shipping all same. But be prepared if your priority shipping by UPS, I've heard a lot of kastam problem using UPS. But your luck will improve if you use DHL. Rarely heard any problem. They've got "custom brokers" to deal with this. This is real: http://www.dhl-usa.com/IntlSvcs/detail/WWP...ices/AirFreight QUOTE # Shipments of any size or weight # Electronic pre-alert system makes arrangements with customs officials in destination countries, allowing most shipments to clear customs before the plane lands # DHL experts in all service areas with knowledge of local regulations and routes # Licensed customs brokers in 141 countries # Variety of value-added services available # Backed by a service guarantee* |

QUOTE(whistleon @ May 8 2008, 11:27 PM) They are not actually "increased". Those are their actual selling price after 30% discount. From time to time, for limited time, they decrease little bit. So now they're back to normal price. |

My BD arrived already. But so sad I'm still away. Mega, keep it for me, will only be back on Thursday.
I read some comments about bad PQ on old movies here. Old movies won't automatically have bad PQ. Many older movies (before late 1970s) uses 70mm film stock. With that kind of perforations, the resolution would be super ultra high. One example is 2001: A Space Odyssey. 35mm movies will still give ultra high resolution. Blade Runner was shot using 35mm anamorphic Panavision (2.35 ratio stretched to 1.33, meaning every single perforation will be used), and was scanned at 4k resolution before being downscaled to the BD resolution. Some movies were shot on 35mm Super35, with top/bottom parts cropped for theatrical release. This will give it some loss in resolutions. Example, Robocop. That said, it will also come back on the condition of the film itself. The special edition Star Wars on DVD was physically cleaned using chemical solutions, then scanned to digital form before being cleaned again by Lowry Digital (now part of DTS). For movies shot on digital (can either be 1080p or i), that's as far as it can get. To get better resolution from it's source, it will need to be upscaled. So that's why movies shot on film are much, much better in resolution, and is ready for whatever future ultra hi-def format. Did you guys know that some movies that was shot on digital, like Miami Vice, some grain was intentionally digitally created by the director to get the "look" of film? PS: I just watched Sunshine 2 weeks ago, I love it! It's now one of my favorite "thinking sci-fi" flick. |

QUOTE(aaron5829 @ May 14 2008, 02:03 PM) Noob Question : Movies has wider ratio than our current widecreen TVs. They're mostly 1.85 or 2.35 or 2.40. 1.85 is the closest, so there will only be very small black bars you won't notice it.My Last Samurai BluRay finally arrived. My question is, i watch it on my PS3. Is there anyway to watch the movie in full screen ? It's in letterbox. BDs will never put the movie into 1.33 ratio (unlike DVDs). It sometimes transfered to fit 1.78, though that only was done with movies shot with Super35, because the movie directors don't like cropping their films. So what you see is actually the real ratio of the movie. To get it to fill up your screen (actually, why? you'll loose portions of the image) you can use the zoom function on your PS3 or TV. Most movies that was shot on film used Super35 or anamorphic Panavision film stock. Both are framed at 1.33:1 physically. Super35 uses matting technique, which blacks out the top and bottom to get the aspect ratio as desired by the director. The ratios can be 2.40, 2.35 or 1.85 theatrically. When transfered for home viewing, it can be opened up to 1.78 or even 1.33, which means you'll actually see more information (top and bottom) on than the theatrical version. So if the director doesn't mind to keep the original theatrical ratio, you will see it in full 1.78 (16:9) or 1.33 (4:3) without any cropping. Anamorphic Panavision stretches the image vertically to fit the 1.33 film stock frame. When projected/transfered, they will be unstretched to get the 2.35 ratio. It uses the whole frame, so it will have better resoulution. This technique will always be in that ratio, so to fit your screen (1.78 or 1.33), the image will have to cropped, using a technique called pan & scan. You'll lose portions of the image the entire movie, and the director usually don't like to do this. These are atually 35mm formats, there are also 70mm. There are many more film formats, like cinemascope, etc. Digitally shot 1080p HD will have 1.78 ratio unless cropped. |
