Even with the updated Mcafee AV and spyware doctor, a trojan still manage to invade my PC.  Registry was modified and a pop-up saying a program cannot write to memory whenever I reboot Windows. Have no clue how to clean annoying popup.  rclxub.gif

Now I am surfing with Opera 9.5.  biggrin.gif

Aaiya, try use *ahem* *cough cough* Symantec AV/Endpoint. Better.

Best is to clean format/restore. Start fresh.

i'll get N82 tonite, via lyn forumer, it's Telstra AP set. Can tell me what are the stuff need to check b4 closing the deal? 1st time buying AP set, plz advice. thx
*
Normally, I try not to buy AP, but buy in SG, which is RM100-200 more expensive than AP, but RM100-300 cheaper than original in M'sia. I don't have to worry about human-issue for after sales service.

Hello have you guys encountered this prob before?

Recently i exchanged memory cards with my friend, and now it is a kingston 1GB micro sd. But then i couldn't browse any files from the memory, although the phone detects the memory card. It reads only a few songs from my memory card and the rest are remained m.i.a -.-
*
Did you format the 1GB card using N82 the first time you plug it in ? Sometimes it may not work even if µSD is from another N82.

QUOTE(AlphaBeta @ Jul 11 2008, 01:24 AM)
hmm..why the 'Log' always start itself whenever i made a call?
*
Did you press green (call) button twice to make a call ? When you press green, it automatically opens Log, as it refers to previous call, miss call, received call, etc.

Take out the µSD and plug into PC USB reader. Try perform a full scandisk and auto repair/recovery.

hmm.gif That's weird. Did you try viewing in PC (USB reader) whether can auto-detect it ? Are there any hidden _PALBTN folders created in Images subfolders ? Is the memory card full (I don't think so...) ? Is the folder/files are hidden ?

Did anyone use Nokia wireless keyboard SU-8W to connect to phone?

Since its price is quite steep. Can normal USB keyboard be modified to connect to phone?
*
I would like to try it too, but I think SU-8W is quite hard to find in KL, same like when I try to find DT-22 previously smile.gif

I did research on Logitech BT keyboard at Apr'08 PC Fair. The cheapest BT was around RM280-400 if I remember correctly.

Feel like too expensive to test just on BT functionality, until I found something to control from PC thumbup.gif Anyone familiar with PPC/WM & ActiveSync + Remote Display application will understand it 100% tongue.gif

Do you guys know any software that can optimise the performance and battery life of this phone?
*
Some general tips:
1) Close all apps when not in use. This include standard ones like Log, Contacts, Messages, etc. Press and hold Menu key to know which are not close properly
2) Uninstall all unnecessary stuff like Themes, Screensaver, 3rd party clocks, etc. This takes up TSR resources and eats up battery juice
3) Crank down LCD brightness level as much as possible.
4) Reduce the LCD auto-dim to a few seconds.
5) Turn off BT if not in use
6) Turn off auto-WiFi search
7) Use GSM network only, instead of 3G if not necessary.
8) Stop using ridiculously long ringtones/mp3.
999) Keep a car charger or USB charger somewhere, multiple sets are fine tongue.gif

Hi all,

I just bought an AP N82 Black from a shop. However, when i access the active standby screen, my font is bold, unlike all other Nseries phones. It is starting to annoy me and i have no idea how to change it back to normal font. Can anyone help me with this?

I'm using the firmware 20.0.062.

Here is a screenshot of my active standby screen,

Hey what theme are you using?
*
IINM, starting somewhere N82 firmware v20.x or v11.x, the default fonts are like "bold". This is normal. Goto Menu->Tools->Settings->General->Personalisation->Display->Font Size->Small and you might be comfortable with the smaller ones.

However, it may not be exactly the same as initial before "bold" by the latest firmware.

... and NO. I don't think there are any fake N82, yet. tongue.gif

*
Don't be lazy, please try google next time.

Video player - supports MPEG4, AVC/H.264, H.264, H.263, RV
RM- Supported video formats: MPEG-4, H.264/AVC, H.263/3GPP, RealVideo 8/9/10

found out that i can get to access to my images/files only when my phone language is set to chinese wtf -.-
why lidat one-.- or i think i should just hand over to the moible shop.

just my temporary phone anyway.
*
Temporary for how long ? Try copy out using USB, do a search and delete all _PALBTN , delete it and all sub-directories & files inside.

Then change phone to English (or whatever language you using, except Chinese), format the memory card, take out, plug back into PC and copy entire thing over again. Troublesome ? Or can try copy using PC Suite instead of USB Transfer.

Hmmmm i see. Is everyone elses N82's active standby font the same? Because i've seen the active standby's on some N82's in pics and they do not have bold fonts.

Thanks for reply biggrin.gif
*
This is due to their firmware version are 10.x or 11.x (forgot). Those older N82 firmwares are using slimmer fonts.
Check firmware version:

I think I'm going to skip this BT keyboard testing.
Planning to upgrade to 16GB micro-SD. rolleyes.gif Hopefully PC Fair Aug'08 already release worldwide.

How much is your solar charger ? Can post some pics ?

Goto maps.nokia.com
Download latest Map Loader, install it.
Connect N82 as USB Transfer
Run Map Loader, use common sense and download Malaysia map, English voice navigation.
Close. Safely Remote Hardware.

AlphaBeta,

FP1 & FP2 = Feature Pack, you can imagine it is the BIOS/ROM of the h/p

Symbian OS S60v3 = the operating system, something similiar like WinXP/Vista.

We can upgrade the OS (e.g. v10.x to v20.x) easily nowadays. But upgrading the BIOS (FP2), will depends on the FP modified to support N82 or not.

Fearless,

That's why I prefer to buy Nokia originals from SG or other countries, if I travel there or have friends/families pass by. rolleyes.gif

Fearless,

SG no need goto original Nokia centre. Any h/p shops in food court/hawker centre, HDB flats or some shopping mall is fine. Normally I goto Woodlands/Chong Pang area. But they might not have SU-8W.

But original, tell seller you want to buy original. If problem submit to Nokia Service centre in Causeway Point @Woodlands.

That's my experience. If they sell you pirated when you mention to them original, later got problem, seller will get into trouble for selling fake goods in SG.

I suggest to try test the BT keyboard. The keys tactile response might not be as good as a good keyboard. Touch typing might not work. May need more pressure and effort on each keys. I'm not sure, just speculating based on pictures only.

On a full charge, and immediate play games non-stop, it can last me 2 hours only.
sweat.gif

It depends on what apps or games you are running in fore/back ground of N82. Also it depends on how many calls/sms/etc., how long LCD backlight on, on GSM/UMTS network, themes, screensaver, ring/message tones which sings an entire 5 min song, area network signal weak/strong, and so on.

On average with minimal use, it can last me 3-4 days (Fri-Mon). Normally 1-3 days only.

Just now I tried GMXT 4.20.00 and Malsingmap v2.28 3rd Ed with A-GPS. It locks in <15 seconds. So far the roads and accuracy is the same. Will do further monitor.

ziggy87,
I suggest you upgrade to UPS. A low end cheapest from RM150-200. Otherwise, the battery may die very fast. Else, charge in other place like lecture hall. Sit near the wall socket, like what people normally do when they goto Starbucks/Coffee Bean with a notebook PC. tongue.gif

*
Yes, M'sia electric voltage standard is 240V 50Hz. However, it does fluctuate from 230-250V, and sometimes go down until 220V and below. That's where brownout (not blackout) occurs.

Maybe lucaswjk is right, try using the charger and battery at other places, it might be faulty.

Try search the full string, e.g. "SS15/1" (without the double quotes).
If no results, reduce the string to "SS15". There might be hundreds of streets in SS15, but I think the system and common sense can narrow it down easily.

Please note these is difference with SS15 (@Subang Jaya) and Section 15 (@Shah Alam)
Another example is SS17 (@SJ) and Section 17 (@PJ).

If you buy original charger and original h/p + battery... if burn/spoil, you can always claim warranty or sue Nokia, provided it is proven your car adapter slot is working and good condition.

erm.. i got a question..
i'm using the garmin to lock my position today when i'm in the KTM,
but the signal showed that i'm on the road and not on the railway!
and when the signal move to the end of the road, the signal terus jump to the nearest road from the railway again..

is there anyway to set it to the exact position on the railway?
*
Majority GPS is for cars, hence it defaults to roads. Some may have options for walking/trekking.
For rail, once you are on it, there should be enough instructions/maps inside or you can ask people. You cannot ask the train driver to switch track, change direction, u-turn, 3-point turn, or some other funny commands. tongue.gif It can only move on its track, according to plan and schedule. Unless you have access, gun, bomb, or something, you may be able to command the driver according to your GPS tongue.gif whistling.gif

Edit: I just remember, actually you can use Nokia Sports Tracker or GMXT tracking to have a bread-crumb trail of your travel. Do a google on it.

QUOTE(Hybz @ Jul 20 2008, 05:24 PM)
What's hard reset and soft reset ? Can I know the differences ?
*
The term comes from PPC/WM. Soft reset is basically reboot the unit. All applications, settings, data in device memory will be retained.
Hard reset is set factory default. Goes back to original as when you purchase the phone.

Added on July 20, 2008, 6:58 pmdeathkiss,

1) is the casing or cover (i dunno wat to call it) interchangeable ?
Technically, yes. It costs RM200+ to change it, and you need proper equipments. Not as easy as ABC sweat.gif

2) in your opinion silver or black nicer?
Depends on individual as you said. I prefer titanium smile.gif as got bored with the classic black look. Initial was a bit sceptical, but after some time, it does looks good to me compared with other Nokia models in black. Beauty in the eye of the beholder.

3) the memory card ca support up to how much GB?
Technically, it can support up to 32GB micro-SDHC, which is the upper limitation on SDHC standards, until it is revised or the standard-organisation comes up with something new?
However, current max is 8GB micro-SD, but the 16GB micro-SD should be released anytime now.

4) is the auto-rotation thing same like accelerometer?
Yes, it comes default in N82.

5) stereo speakers like n81 also?
N82 is stereo, but take note both speakers are located at right side, i.e. both speakers will face up when you rotate it 90º anti-clockwise.

6) support n-gage? (not much of a mobile phone gamer anyway, just curious icon_idea.gif )
Yes.

7) anybody else things the phone is a lil too long?
Yes and no. The length is alright for its width. However, the wasted space between the LCD and keypad should be shorten.

Unofficially, it seems there is a "titanium with white back-cover". The original titanium has a light greyish back-cover. hmm.gif
