I have both Nokia Maps 2.0 and GMXT. I use both to lock satellites together, but don't navigate both concurrently.
Locking satellite signal is subjective for both NM2.0 & GMXT, sometimes within <5 sec lock, sometimes takes 2-3 minutes. Sometimes won't lock and I need to close app and run again. Nokia Maps 2.0 and GMXT is the GPS software application engine only. It needs to depends on the map, which is also called Nokia Maps for Nokia Nokia Maps map files are just around 15MB for Malaysia, while malsingmap for Peninsular Malaysia + SG alone is 28MB (if include Borneo is 35MB?) So you can imagine how much maps are missing from Nokia Maps map for M'sia. This post has been edited by cute_boboi: Jul 31 2008, 05:05 PM |

QUOTE(AlphaBeta @ Jul 31 2008, 08:13 PM) This is because malaysia map is not detail enough. I'm staying in Australia Perth now..i use nokia maps. no problem at all. Juz blame malaysia government for providing such lap sap map to nokia or whtever company made this nokia map.. FYI, the Nokia Maps map is not provided by M'sia government. All mapping are done by private mapping companies. It depends which map Nokia wants to purchase/deal to bundle into Nokia Maps.QUOTE(lucaswjk @ Jul 31 2008, 08:25 PM) 16gb microSDHC when r they going to come out??? I'm also waiting for it since June'08. I was hoping PC Fair Aug'08 has it, but I don't think so. This is my 97th same posting on N95/N95 8GB vs N82.
1) Which one you prefer ? N95 Slide or N82 Candybar ? 2) Which one you prefer ? LED or Xenon flash ? 3) Do you need the music multimedia keys ? 4) Prefer 2.4" vs 2.6/2.8" screens ? 5) Can you live with N82 small keys ? If you have more answers on former rather than latter, then buy N95. Otherwise, go for N82. |

andrewL,
What is your procedure to use the card ? 1) Format 8GB inside N82 2) Copy 2GB into 8GB (over all) using PC USB Reader, and overwrite all files including hidden/system (enable in win explorer -> tools -> options -> ) 3) Put 8GB into N82 to use Otherwise, try do: 1) Full scandisk on 8GB card using PC USB Reader 2) A more tedious way to ensure not file system problem. i) Backup phone memory into memory card (2GB) ii) Put 8GB inside N82 and format it. iii) Copy 2GB into 8GB (over all) using PC USB Reader, and overwrite all files including hidden/system (enable in win explorer -> tools -> options -> ) iv) Put 8GB into N82 v) Restore memory card (8GB) into phone memory Might be possible card is faulty ? |

QUOTE(andrewL @ Aug 3 2008, 01:54 AM) what i did was i put the 8gb card into my com.. then connected my n82 with 2gb inside it to my com.. and transfer everything from n82(2gb) to the 8gb.. Why I suggest to format the 8GB card inside N82, is to let the N82 "prepare" the hardware, rather than a PC. Have you resolve your problem ? then i swap the cards.. QUOTE(LittleCow @ Aug 3 2008, 08:14 AM) saw the Blue Cube(celcom) ads at the Star...RM1,818 (N82).... RM1818 ? any idea is this the fair price ? Well, AP are around 1300-1500. Authorized are 1800. It depends on how much you want to save and the hassle if N82 has problem and claim warranty. Both AP & Authorized have advantages and disadvantages which has been discussed in length. For me, I go for original. i will take it if it is zero interest (with no additional charges).. QUOTE(chicaman @ Aug 3 2008, 04:27 PM) hard to log the location at home..... last time my holux lock within seconds. this one i wait for a few minutes still cannot log wtf? To compare a dedicated GPS device with SiRFstar III and a built-in integrated device is like comparing a durian with a banana. For N82, you need to be outside to lock the satellites. I know SiRF III devices can lock satellites even under trees/car porch and some places that N82 will not be able to lock.BTW, just ate "Chook Keok" durian today. |

QUOTE(Raz @ Aug 3 2008, 04:52 PM) How good are the Nokia maps coverage ? Especially in big cities ie KL, Penang etc .. ? Well, go and try Nokia Maps whether it is sufficient for you. You may need to download and install Nokia Map Loader in your PC to download maps into your N82.Do the AP set come with different accessories in the box ? However, I heard Malsingmaps has the most extensive maps for Peninsular M'sia, Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei and Singapore. Not sure on AP set. Mine is original. |

QUOTE(Raz @ Aug 3 2008, 07:40 PM) That's the thing. I don't have an N82. It is one of the phone I am currently considering purchasing. If Nokia Maps is good, that is a bonus as I only have to carry 1 device. Can save on cost as well. Too bad the Garmin software requires external BT dongle or "pasar malam" workaround You can try Nokia Maps in other N devices with built-in GPS like N95, N95 8GB, etc.If Nokia Maps not good enough, then try GMXT + Malsingmap. If still not good enough, hire Senoi Praaq to guide you QUOTE(iwan_smtk @ Aug 3 2008, 08:15 PM) N82 from empty to 100% full takes around 2 hrs. If not totally empty, it takes around 1-1.5 hrs |
