Hun,
Your post is so long so I decided to reply separately.

Yes, I saw them jumping back to you. You are like their safe-haven. How did they get so attached to emino but not me? Is it some cologne that he use?

The nibbling / nipping is quite painful. What's the diff? Is it called nip / nibble? I dont mind the crabbing sound, I like it. I love the sound!! Luna dont crab so much now, she let me touch and catch but hard to get her off the cage cause she'd be grabbing on tightly, turn around crab and then attack. But touch still OK. Handfeed also OK. Meanwhile Moka cannot touch, difficult to handfeed.

OK, I already left the water bottle in the cage. It was full at first, then this morning I saw half bottle left. I terkejut but only to realized it was dripping over night. Hahaha... They dont drink THAT much, right? I hear some say that they barely drink a few mili liter a day. Somebody posted but I forgot who.

I guided them to the sleeping pouch. One love the pouch, one love the wheel. When I have nothing to do, I will take them out to handle them but then, I'm scared they run off in the corners of my house and my house isnt exactly 100% glider proof. I am going to buy a camping tent from Tesco / Jusco and spend some time with them in it, every night before I go to bed. I will take them in the bonding pouch also but they'll most likely dirty it again like the first day.

OK, funny I gave the foxy one Luna and the babyface Moka, else it'd be Luna, little sister of Kapi! My mom said Luna name sexier so give it to the sharp face one. Moka name more for baby, so give it to the younger one. Funny.

I will try to feed more fruits but it's limited to mango and apples today, also with Heinz babyfood. I will need to stock up on more fruits. Just worry the fruit seller thinks I'm crazy buying one each. Hahaha... I will stock up on papayas, lai, carrots and some other stuff tomorrow.

No honey, I will remember! Thanks!

It is just addictive LOL. 9 out of 10 gliders love gliderSLURP.
Hmmmm... any flesh wounds? If no then it should be no problem. To me it looks healed.
Wah, Moka giving you a hard time.

Do this, take away the Wodent Wheel for now. Just leave the sleeping pouch in with the other stuff. I suggest you do more pouch bonding with Moka. Try carrying Moka in your pouch for the whole day. On and off call her name, touch the pouch. If she crabs, let her crab. So strange lah LOL.... she really haven't trust you yet but good that Luna is learning to trust you.

One thing you must remember, gliders can learn from your behaviour. So if you feel scared of Moka, she will do more biting. Something like bully you lah.

Anyway, just let her rest tonight, and try doing the whole day pouch bonding tomorrow. Only put Moka alone in the pouch. Let Luna be alone for a bit while you concentrate on Moka.
*
Separate them for a day? Tomorrow morning, I will be out from my house. I am going to my gf's place most of the time until later. Do I need to feed her first before I go? Hmm... I'm concerned about their food / water supplies.

I will do as you say.

Ok. I bought a 2 men tent from Tesco and set it up in my room with the help from my sister.

I'm currently sitting inside the tent with moka and luna. I transported them here via the bonding pouch. Its hard to get them out when they are scared of the plastic sound which make the base of the tent.

When they got out, they both squeezed in one corner. I went near and crabbing from moka. Luna is ok but she nip me once. Then i carried and put her on my shoulder. She has been there ever since. Checking out my back, hair, neck. Nipped me on the back of the neck which is quite painful. My hand went to rub the area she nip and she run off but still on me.

Moka is always more difficult. Unlike Luna who never got off me for bout 30 minutes, Moka jumped off at every opportunity. Too bad the tent is made of polyster so she cannot grip when she land, so she fall and i reach out to her for more hand chasing and put her back on. She'd jump off again and i'd hand chase her some more. Now they're both on my back. I'm moving about, playing psp, replying sms, posting here with my phone. They're still on me. Ticklish and strange feeling but its good. We're bonding!

Ok, I sat in the tent for nearly 2 hours. I bought the tent for RM35.90 at Tesco, it didnt come with any instruction but fairly easy to setup.

I had them roam around my back for so long. I had to hand-chased a bit but other times is fine. Because they are roaming around my back, I can reach out with my hand to sayang them and never got nip. This is very special to me because first time I'm sayang-ing both of them with my big palm and not got nip.

Earlier post, I wrote Luna more stable, Moka more naughty. Later on, it was the opposite. Luna crab a lot but Moka is quiet. I decided to come out and feed them at 11:30pm so I was trying to figure out how to catch them and put them into the bonding pouch. If I grab them, they'd nip me. I dont want that. So, I put on my pouch and swing it to my back. To my surprise, they know their way inside.

Then, I zip it up and post this update. Even though they're both on the pouch, they crab as I type on the keyboard and I can still feel their tiny nails on the back of my neck even though they're not there anymore. Powerful after effects. They must hate the keyboard or computer-illiterate. Haha... They're crabbing more. I touch the pouch, they crab. I am going downstairs to feed them.

Oh yea, I got pooped on the right shoulder sleeves and either one of them climbed up my head and jumped to the tent top but there was only limited mesh there and everywhere else is polyster so she didnt have anywhere to go but back onto my arms.

As baby wipes, Tesco, Giant, Guardian, Watson, all got sell and below RM10 got 3 packets. Enough to use for a while.

OK, as for their supper tonight. This is the menu:
1. 2 teaspoon of Dutch Lady low fat Strawberry yogurt
2. 1 cherry tomato (do I have to take out the tiny seed bits?)
3. 1 baby carrot
4. 4 pieces of mango on 1cm x 1cm cube
5. 8 pieces of applies on 5mm x 5mm cube

I think should be enough kua? Am I feeding them in the right portion? Should I cut the skin of the baby carrot?

Tomorrow, I will feed them papayas cause today wanted to buy but too late already after dinner.

Personally, I think that was too much, but then again I've only kept a single glider, never a pair before.

Yeah, take out the seeds for cherry tomatoes.
*
You're right, I also think it may be too much but then, I feel it's better than not enough since they are growing joeys, I will let them eat bit more. The seed part of the cherry tomato is the juiciest part, if take it out means left skin only wor... Hmm, I took them out anyway, tomorrow I will see which is the most laku.

QUOTE(bonai @ May 26 2008, 12:49 AM)
supper means what?
is this the only feeding time or you've fed them before today?
erm, kinda confused...

actually you don't have to be extra careful in preparing..
can cut the fruits any size.. just make it small for them to hold..
i dont think your glider can finish all those..
but it wont be wrong to provide that much..

if you're gliders are active, they'll eat a lot..
*
Hmmm... No, I feed them once in the morning about 8 - 9am. Then another time at 11pm - 12 midnight. Only two meals per day because this is the schedule Hun feed them, so I just continue. But I think Hun's morning is 7am. 1hr difference wont be much.

According to Hun, these are the most fruit loving joeys, so I give them extras. Since I have been feeding them apples and mangoes for 2 days, today give them yogurt, cherry tomato and baby carrots as alternatives. Tomorrow morning, I will go buy those cutted fruits from the market for them to eat - maybe guava and papaya. Buy them, fridge them and feed them at night with baby food.

I will go hunt for mealworms tomorrow as well. By the way, I heard they can eat tuna too. Which type? Can I feed them the Ayam Brands tuna in water? Not those mayonaise type but those that's labelled tuna in water or something like that. Will that be OK?

WOW, that's a big meal for them hahahah. But it's ok, those 2 girls will eat maybe everything. They got good appetites. There is no need to cut the skin away.... but it is up to you. I never cut the skin from apples coz there is extra calcium and some nutrients under the skin.... Of course you have to scrub the fruits and veggies clean. Get a brush to do this.

Yes, take out those seeds. Just cut the tomato in half and squeeze, the seeds will just come out.

Morning remember give them their slurp yah.
*
Hun, you messaged at the right time. I remember you said to me, morning feed slurp and evening is a full course meal.

But if morning feed slurp at 8 - 9am. Can tahan until at night 10pm - 12am meh? I am not doubting your professionalism with pets but I'm concerned since slurp of 1 teaspoon each looks so little to me. Eat liao tahan more than 12 hours... enough ke? It's like 14 hours just living on slurp alone. I'm a bit worried la, gastric / appendicitis ke apa.

*off to shower, dunno joeys got poo on head or not*

Added on May 26, 2008, 1:04 amBy the way, when you said cherries, do you mean those red one with one kayu... people usually put it on top of banana split ice creams - those type?

Let them eat Slurp first. Then before you leave for work, put a piece of fruit in. Well, from my observation, they would just go on sleeping and rarely come out of their sleeping pouch to eat till at night. It's good to see them hungry coz this means they are healthy with good appetite. Slurp is 1 teaspoon per joey, so is fine. The most important is the night meal coz that is when they are most active and require all the energy from their food. When they sleep, they won't get hungry so easily.

The cherries.... I mention fresh ones. Those on banana split, cakes and icecreams are processed ones in sugar. Fresh ones from fruit stall.
*
Before I leave for work, put a piece of fruit in, I assume it's like 1/4 of apple or something that size, right? Yes, slurp is 1 teaspoon per joey but what if one hungry and eat all, the other dont get to eat. That's my concerned also cause I dont think they know the sharing exact amount.

Cherries, fresh ones? Hmm... I need to go see cause I'm not exactly a fruit person so I dont know how it looks like. Thanks again for your advise.

Wowww... quite expensive. I think I know which type liao. My house rarely buy fruits, so I wasnt really sure but since you mentioned the hefty price tag, I think I know which one it is.

QUOTE(crazymouse_yyh @ May 26 2008, 01:24 AM)
Do separate feedings if possible... if not, then just add another teaspoon of slurp in if you feel worried but they should be alright lah.

Yes, about quarter of an apple or pear or mango, any fruit is good. If they never touch this backup fruit, then it is ok, no need to be worried.

Gliders prefer cherries than other sort of berry.... just look around at those fruit stalls that sell imported fruits. Bound to be cherries there.
*
OK, separate feedings, like putting into 2 bowls? OK la, I doubt it will be a major problem. I'm just over-worried. I will give more when I go out to work. I removed the wodent wheel like you advised and they now have no place to hide except for the sleeping pouch. I have not seen them entering the tunnel yet. Maybe it's too long and dark.

Cherries eh? OK, if I can get a little for them (and myself, of coz), I will. I cant splurge much since I splurge on my Westies too. Thanks again. I am calling it a night.

QUOTE(Reanne @ May 26 2008, 06:03 AM)
Pennywise, your 2 joeys have always been crabby but with time and proper handling they will slowly adapt to you. If they run away from you into a tight area, please don't try to stick your hand in to dig them out or if they refuse to come out of the pouch, don't shake the pouch or scare them. Off the lights and wait for them, or find out what's their favourite food and use it to lure them out. Never attempt to dig out any cornered animal as this time is when they are most defensive and terrified, their bite will be extra painful and deep and you may possibly instill fear into them being cornered.

The kitchen glove wasn't a wise choice to use as a barrier from Moka's teeth. You should have mentally prepared yourself to be nipped a few times. Once they've understood that your hand is not harmful, they will get used to you quicker. Putting her on your body and using the glove to pick her up won't help with her fear of your bare hands, as our hands resemble claws, so it may make them feel threatened in an instinctive way. Moreover, the kitchen glove is big and difficult to get a good hold on the joey, so excessive grabbing, touching here and there would make it more stressful.

Waiting for her to quiet down and then put her back into the cage is bad since you're using the kitchen glove to hold her down. It may make her dread playtime outside since she's gonna be flattened by a huge thing until she's tired then she'll be looking forward to going back into her cage, not to spend time with you. To put it plainly, it ends the bonding session on a bad note.

Suck it up and let her nip you a few times. DO NOT PULL BACK. I got nipped by her a couple of times, it may sting a little, but after that all I needed to do was slowly pick her up and she didn't attempt to nip me anymore after the second day. She already understood 'This strange thing didn't hurt me the last time though biting it didn't make it go away, it brings me yummy food so I guess it's okay.'

If you pull back, she will actually learn that biting you means the new thing (Your hand) will go away, and since she's afraid of you already, she'd rather have it that way.

One more thing, I have a strong feeling you should have left them be a day or 2 more to get used to their surroundings before attempting to even touch them. Animals that have undergone stress through journeys need a full day to 3 days of complete rest to adapt to their surroundings as the stress suppresses their immune system and needs time to dissipate.

For crabby joeys that we warned are crabby, should be given more time to rest before handling them as they stress easier as crabbing is usually a sign of stress and a sign of being afraid.

Joeys that are calmer tend to be ok to handle after a day or 2.
*
Reanne, thank you for your lengthy advise. I dont mind the crabbiness. In fact, I love the sound. However, I will put a stop to the kitchen mitten. Yes, they are calmer yesterday after the tent-time. It was hard with them running around but once they got to the shoulders, they were fine and they let me touch them. I am going to do this every night until they are familiar with me. Thanks again!

kelvin_faye,
OK, I will upload some photos within these few days. When your turn to get SGs? When you feel commited enough lor. If you think you are ready, then that's your queue lor!

krynzpeaches,
Wow, really a double-long post. Errr, to be honest, I've not read about glove is a No-No. I mean not on this forum anyway. I must have missed it. I saw what Reanne wrote and I will put a stop to it. I think you're right, I'm going in too fast. Just after 2 days, their nipping does reduce by a lot.

They smell my hand but they dont explore it. Too afraid to mount it even though it's just the back of my palm. But if I pick them up and put them on my shoulders, they hardly jump off after a few tries. That was yesterday, I'm going to try again today.

Wow, your Luna has a really long name. Makes my Luna feel so small. Should give her something like Luna Ranka Sebastian Jones VII. Hahaha... Kidding cause I probably wont remember later, so Luna is just fine. Symbolize the moon just like Hun's Kapi does.

Inverse the pouch to get them out. Yes, I did that last night and this morning. Figured it wasnt nice to let them feel earthquake on their home every time I want them out, so I slowly push them and there's plenty of crabbing. I dont mind the sound as I love it but I think they REALLY mind me pushing the pouch from down to up to inverse it. Like kacau their private time.

I bought a 2-Men tent and set it up in my room. It's quite huge. I let them out from the bonding pouch in the tent, I tried ignoring them, I played my PSP and they went snuggling up in a corner. After 20 minutes, they didnt budge, so I have to put my PSP out (worry they pee on it or what), and go catch them. Once I did, I put them on my arm and let them climb up. Moka especially like my hair. She is like helping me catch kutu (no, I dont have any). This behaviour is like what the monkey does, search under the hair for treasures.

I wanted to buy a 1-Man tent at Tesco but they said that if it's 1-Man, it's a sleeping bag. Cheh! So 2-Men tent is the minimum and its really quite big. I recommend this to everyone who wants a glider-proof space, not too big such as rooms where they can run off and hide somewhere you cant reach them. This is limited space and close to one another. Nice!

I think suggies recognizes their pouch because they pooped in it. Luckily I bought a second one from Pet Shack, so I have two to interchange if they dirty one of it. I woke them up at 10:00am this morning and put them in the bonding pouch. They have been with me ever since. We watched TV, cooked spaghetti, had brunch and now in front of the computer. They have been crabbing on and off. When I touch them from outside the bonding pouch, sometimes they quiet down, sometimes they go louder.

QUESTION:
1. Are they grumpy because they dont get to sleep peacefully in the bonding pouch?
2. Will it affect their sleeping time later?
3. They've pooped in the bonding pouch but no pee. Will they pee in the bonding pouch? I'm hoping it wont drip on me or my bed.

So your gliders have been eating cherry tomatoes with the seed? It's OK for them? Well, I woke up and find the baby carrots are still in the metal bowl. They probably only had one tiny little piece each. The cherry tomato is finished but the skin has dropped onto the tray of the cage. I think its not nice for them since the seed part which is the juiciest part has been removed, else I'm sure they'd finish it.

Yes, I will buy a bit of cherries and let them try. I am supposed to go out and look for mealworms today but then just remembered, no car. Car sent to service. Haih, stuck at home with 2 dogs and 2 gliders. Dogs downstairs, glider with me in the room. Later need to bring doggy for walk and shower them in the evening.

I think this post is long enough.

Medium size can already la. Big cage to keep yourself inside meh? How many gliders you intend to have anyway? I think med size is considered very good already. Ok, here is Luna and Moka latest pict. I was feeding them strawberry yogurt. I need to get some mealworms one of these days.

Luna: She is a little more grumpy today. She is crabbing more than yesterday. I havent done anything besides putting them into their bonding pouch at 10am - 6pm. Then I put them back into the cage without disturbing them.

Moka: She is a little more friendly today. Terbalik from Luna, who was friendly became crabby. Moka was crabby became friendly.

I think there's a risk that your gliders may bite their way out through the mosquito tent. Can you find something more sturdy?

Sturdy as in something that's tahan lasak so that the glider cannot bite their way through. That's the main concern only.

Today, I came back from work and got Luna and Moka out of their pouches. They were still hanging out in the pouch. Then, I got them into the bonding pouch - it's getting easier by the day. rclxms.gif

I brought them out with me to a steamboat restaurant with my friends. The girl said so cute and the voice is nice. The guy shakehead.gif said I'm crazy and the voice is scary. My guy friend is more discouraging but the female friend is more curious on how they look like, what they live on, etc. rclxms.gif

Then, I went to a fruit shop at 9.00pm and bought 1 slice of papaya and 1 slice of honeydew. thumbup.gif I ate most of them leaving like 1/8 of it for them. When I was trying to get the papaya out from the plastic, it fell on the floor! doh.gif doh.gif

So tonight, I will feed them honeydew + blueberries yogurt + lai. I think that's about it. It may even be too little. I havent got the chance to get some mealworms yet. Hopefully can get some latest by this weekend.

Good that it is getting easier. Like I said, all it takes is a bit of time and love heheheh. Give another month or 2 of bonding, then I am sure you can have them clinging on to your shoulder without jumping away.

Yogurt, you can cut it down to twice a week, it doesn't need to be fed everyday. Try and get hold of Ciku, some gliders like. The only sort of fruits I have fed Moka and Luna before I handed them to you is apple, pear, mango, plum, carrot, cherry tomato, rambutan.
Wah, so many things at night. I normally feed fruits 1 night, next night dried dogfood and slurp with mealworms. I guess almost same lah. Tonight is fruits for my babies hahah. I just bought mango and jambu air for them.

Cut yogurt to once a week eh? OK, tomorrow night, I go back to babyfood. It's good that there's a fruit shop near my house that opens till 10pm. Everyday I come back from work, I can stop by there just to buy cut fruits. It ease things and its RM1 per fruit. I get to eat 7/8 of it and Luna and Moka share another 1/8. Too bad they're the small shareholders.

This is quite embarassing to say... plum, I have no idea what's that. My family isnt the type to buy fruits and I've hardly ever consume fruits. Now, it's a time for change and change is good. I will try to get some rambutans from pasar malam tomorrow.

Added on May 27, 2008, 11:42 pmBy the way, Hun, what is dried dogfood? Also, slurp has calcium and protein or just one of it? I know mealworms can make up for the protein needs but what about calcium? Anything besides Rep-Cal?

This is plum loh.

Babyfood? You mean the jar babyfood? That is best not give too much coz the nutrients is low. The best is still fresh fruits and gliderSLURP.

Anyway, try and get hold of water chestnuts. Just get sweet nice fruits from the fruit seller, you can even try guava on them but I dunno if they will eat or not. LOL.

Dried dogfood is kibble, but your joeys still not old enough to chew on kibble, and normally if we soak in water or juice they don't really like. Wait for another month, then offer a kibble for them to taste. Limit to only 1 piece of kibble per day. I use Orijen coz is the safest along with Eaglepack Holistic.

Papaya, jambu air and sugar apples are high in calcium.

This is a sugar apple, also known as custard apple. Grown locally, very sweet and tasty. My gliders love it.

Okok, I will find plum but its quite unlikely the fruit shop I spoke of earlier has it. I didnt see it earlier. They have cherries though. A small pack for RM15! I will probably get them tomorrow. I havent been feeding them babyfood since the first day I brought them home. I'm just rotating.

Water chestnuts? No idea what's that either. I really am not a fruit kind of person so the normal fruits I know, all these canggih fruits - really dont know la. I will find more choices, no worries. Guava is a good idea but that's NOT sweet at all.

OK, will wait on kibbles. Moka dived into the strawberry yogurt and dirtied herself. Then she grabbed onto the cage bars and walked around leaving trails of yogurt. Have to wipe before ants attack. I also need to buy ants chalk or something.

Yes, I saw these custard apples at the fruit shop earlier but I didnt buy because I wasnt sure what the heck was that. Hahaha... I will get some of each tomorrow. Look forward to my next glider meal updates. Now just mealworms belum dapat because the nearest pet store that sells them is in the opposite side of town (which means I have to go through jam to get them).

i feed my gliders daily with at least 3-4 types of fruits + 2 types of veggies, mealworms + crickets and slurp... they tend to finish all.. that's cool!
orangecow, i don't live next to Pet Shack, if you wanna meet me there you cannot simply tell me when you're there already.. need to tell early then only people can come..
*
Wowww... that's A LOT!! How many gliders now? 7? 9?

QUOTE(thisiskj @ May 28 2008, 12:15 AM)
actually.. guyz.. mealworms and crickets have the same amount of protein right?

i feed mine during day.. whatever fruits i eat also i give one la.. dried fruits.. steam chicken pieces.. =P twice a week during day.. and sometimes some egg..

at night.. 1-3 different fruits + choy sum + Slurp alternate days + mealworms x 5-10 + 2 -3 drops of vitagen + wake up middle of the night to let it bite my finger.. =P
*
Eggs, did you take out the yolk? I havent try steam chicken pieces but that has gotta wait for a while.

QUOTE(crazymouse_yyh @ May 28 2008, 12:47 AM)
For me I gotta alternate coz they always attack Slurp first. So I give alternately. Best thing is that they will finish 3 bowls of fruits. Heheheh.... that stainless steel bowl, imagine 3 bowls for 4 gliders, all bowls full till wanna tumpah. I tried 4 bowls but they would have leftovers, so 3 bowls so far so good.
*
Mine is served in 3 of the stainless steel bowls.

Bowl 1: fruits of 2 types
Bowl 2: slurp or yogurt
Bowl 3: vege (baby carrots and cherry tomatos)

All the cherry tomatos i've given them, the skin drop on the tray. They dont finish it, only eat the good parts. Is now a good time to feed them eggs? I can try giving them eggs tomorrow if its allowed. Boiled eggs, shell removed, yolk... remove it too?

Added on May 28, 2008, 1:17 amWill swap bowl 2 for mealworms once they get it started.

I am a little concerned about my joeys today. They are OK and came out to play. Luna hide in the tunnel a lot. For me to get her out, I have to close up one end and slowly push her to the other end. Moka just sit in one corner and stone... not moving. If I feed Moka with slurp on my fingers, she'd eat a bit and then stone.

With all the stories of how gliders could die, I'm a little concerned with mine. What should I do? Should I take them on the bonding pouch more often? Or should I leave them alone? They've been here for a nearly a week now.

I manage to take my joeys out from the cage and put them over the shoulder. It's hard to grab them because they'd grab on tight to the cage and not let go.

One of them is not so shy anymore. She'd come close to the shoulder and to the front, near to my face. When I touch her, she wont move. The other one always hide behind my back, so I cannot reach her. When I touch her, she'd run away and occassionally, she will pause and stand still for me to sayang. I dont even know who is who cause upclose and behind, I cannot see.

They were on my shoulders for one hour. They pooped 3 times and it fell to the floor. In the end, one of them peed on me before I put them back into the cage. When want to put them back also same, grab on to my shirt so tight, dont let go.

I heard them hiss for the first time today... They crab much less when on me and allow me to touch them. They crab much more in the cage.

I fed them custard apple and plum today with a bit of cherries. Buy fruit also RM30... Cherries 16, Plum 13, Custard Apple 1. BOMB!!
