yea i brought her to a few vet.. but non of them know how to treat a sugar glider~~
*
Well, you can always ask them to check the skin coz it has nothing to do with know how to treat a glider or not. Coz mites can be detected by examining the skin.

Look in the 1st page for vet contacts that know how to treat gliders. If your glider living alone?

QUOTE(ggMing @ Apr 27 2008, 11:20 PM)
Wah thank Hun for the recipe!!! fast fast print screen... eheheh

fishes? more like in 4hrs...  =P
*
LOL.... fast fast do loh. Veggie cube is a good source of fiber and roughage heheheh. But I'm not sure if other gliders would like it or not.

after 1 night of food preparing they actually ate half of the sawi i prepared for them n more than half of the sweet peas.. fruits ate all other than guava which they ate very little..
feeding eggs means egg white or yolk together?
*
Guava is a so-so fruit for gliders coz they don't like the bland taste.

Good that they ate everything.

Egg.... normally if you hard boil the egg and give like that, they will only eat the yolk. I suggest you mash up the whole egg using a fork to make a paste, then they will eat everything.

Don't think about fats and cholesterol.... this one humans sure worry.... but for animals, the whole egg is nutritious.

QUOTE(emino @ Apr 28 2008, 03:52 PM)
Well, if the penis started to pop out. Its better to neuther since he then wont develop bald spot.

If neutered after bald, it would take some time for the balding to dissapear. If neutered very late I think the bald spot would be permanent.
*
It will disappear lah the bald spot. It won't be a permanent bald spot if already neutered. My male already very botak now.

QUOTE(spel'it @ Apr 28 2008, 04:05 PM)

compared to ur teddy, in size cheekoo is smaller...
risau la nak neutered awal2 nih....
but i tot he was still a baby...
suddenly come home one day, see his thing....
straight away msg reanne....heheheh....
tp still not sure to neutered now or not...
haih....
*
For the penis to come out, it is normal. It happens at any age.

QUOTE(siokjinlim @ Apr 28 2008, 06:32 PM)
i usually see heinz in supermarkets.. always hear about gerber, but never actually seen it... also, i wan to ask where is it i can find baby food?? only saw billion supermarket selling.. i went jusco, also dont have..
*
Both brands are equally good.... but from my own view, Heinz is more natural. That is why there is a sourish taste coz it mimics the fruit. Gerber is not so acidic and they got only a few flavours. Gerber is more readily available than Heinz.... but Gerber baby cereal sucks big time. Heinz cereal is much better.

Why do you wanna find babyfood? Better give fruits and make your own glider mix or buy gliderslurp as it is more nutritious. Jar babyfood is not enough as the protein level is super low, little to no calcium, high acidic content and loaded with Vit C and Vit A.....

Or better, get the organic babyfood. Much much better than gerber or heinz as it has more nutrition.

got ppl curi curi take joey into the sarawak.. cos it is small and can put inside the pocket sweat.gif  sweat.gif
got any idea how to take into sarawak cos joey are not available in thr.. laugh.gif  laugh.gif
*
Better not do such things.... if get caught how wor? The joey would suffer under the authorities and most likely die if kena confiscated. I would rather do it the legal way.

Actually, there are gliders there, you just gotta search. Ask petshops to help you get as they got permit to import.

Campur to make it sticky? What are you mixing in the first place? Honey is not good for joeys lah....

Organic babyfood can be purchased at Carrefour, Cold Storage or any organic shop.

coz now i am in ukm bangi... still a student la. space not much lo... n i wanna take another SG when i moved out from ukm later on... any suggestion from SIFU2?   notworthy.gif

da tak tau nih... pening nak wat keputusan... huhuhu.. am getting a glider from my friend's friend... wana go check out first, if his are healthy o not... if not, i maybe wanna booked from LYN... hehe.. [Hun, KP, Bonai please suggest, coz i think u r the seniors here rite???]    notworthy.gif  thumbup.gif
*
Well, getting the bigger cage is always better. Small cage also ok but you must remember, what happens if they breed (if yours is a male and female pair) and what space will they have if you are not around? The basic small cage ok lah, but you must bring the gliders out to do a bit of free ranging once a while for exercise.

Quite a number of us are students here, we sacrifice alot hahaha... our sleep, our pocket money, our room space. So think 1st not bout getting the joey ASAP but think and plan carefully the stuff you gonna buy and also the space for them. Get all your set up and accessories 1st before getting a joey.

Suggies gathering will be welcomed by us.

I myself being the most shy person won't mind taking a step to come again (a bit doesn't sound like me..)

I think i'm more brave now.

I hope for more opportunities to learn about your collection and your suggies.

One day..

The 1st gathering would always give a boost of confidence for the next one hehehehe Next gathering most likely June or July....

actually it depends on the budget u have.. if u have sufficient $$ to get a bigger cage go for it.. but dun 4get to add in the budget for other things like food, dish, toys, wheel.
and another thing is having them n doing research on them is kind of different..
personally i just got mine n i'm studying in the dark.. haha.. y? cos of them..
mine hate light.. nearly got bitten by 1 yesterday, kind of scare to handle but does it stop me? no.. y? cos i love them..
went shopping today n spend rm50 or more.. how much i spend on me? rm0 not including bus fair la.. haha..
all depends on ur budget n the place u have big enough or not..
n since u r a student u need to get a flexarium too(just my suggestion).. or not u need to carry the cage back n forth which is real heavy..
*
HAhaha.... now you talk like a glider daddy rclxms.gif

Gliders of course like the dark coz they are nocturnal. So if you wanna have lights on, I suggest changing your bulb to an orange light that is not too bright. I use that and my gliders are ok. Actually, my whole house all also orange light LOL.

QUOTE(EvanSoon @ Apr 28 2008, 11:28 PM)
learn from Hun only? what about others? haha..
yay! no more shy!! lets party~~~
it's good to hear that ur stepping out n got some courage due to the suggies..
very nice to hear that an animal gave u strength and courage..
I love animals n the miracles they cause..
*
Animals and forums are like that. 1st 1st I also shy, then when I get to know other people with the same interest and same hobby, slowly not shy liao.

hi guys, i just got a suggie today. Have problem trying to bond with it. Keeps crabbing when i am near, and does not sleep in its sleeping pouch. I am wondering how should i get it out of the cage to bond. Any sifu can share thier experience with me? thanks
*
Well, you can't expect a joey or glider to bond in a day. It needs time to adjust. Normally I won't advice people to handle their joeys on the 1st day.

What you should do is let your joey get used to its new surroundings and cage for a day to 2 days. Leave your shirt inside. Not a clean shirt but a used one with some sweat if possible. Drape over the cage and also stuff a cloth with some of your scent on it into the cage.

To bond, you would need a bonding pouch. Gliders can be lured into their pouch. You can leave the bonding pouch in and once it goes into the pouch, zip it up and take it about. Talk to your joey and touch your joey while it is inside its pouch. This gets it used to your touch and voice, your scent and also your body movements.

Stairs made by wood and platform by cloroplas.

You don't need so many ladders. I actually have one ladder in my cage, and they use it instead of jumping from 1 platform to another.

Get ropes. You can get even plastic chains from the hardware store. Mine love ropes.

If you are looking for wooden ladders, you gotta get them from Singapore. A bird shop that goes by the name Goodwill Bird Trading has a large amount of imported bird accessories that are suitable for gliders but then you know lah, price also double sweat.gif

Yah lah, do slide.... but of course sometimes some things must be "real" in front of them to get a feel loh. I'll make my glider play on string macam spy.... then maybe lah do glider toss... that's a maybe only heheheh....

Anyway, my eyes damn tired from all the 20 over pages of reading. Tomorrow need to wake up early to make gliderSLURP.... it sells out pretty fast hhahah.

and tat,it is possibe to rear not yet open eye small sugar glider?so tat it will stick to the owner as it parent.can survive or not?
*
I'm really concern with the part you said about eyes not open..... seriously too young and 90% can die in anyone's hands if they do not make an incubator, they do not stimulate the joey to defecate and aid digestion and definitely needs proper joey milk. I have experienced with different joey ages before, and those that I had that had their eyes still closed died even after I provided all the necessity. This is why I said 90% can die....

QUOTE(emino @ May 15 2008, 03:12 PM)
Okay. Now I'm in the mood to continue the story... I mean experince on neutering Teddy...

I pointed at the bonding pouch hanging on the wall. "Where?" Bonai asked? "It's there! Cant you see it?!!" "Nop." confirmed Bonai as he continues to chatter with Jack.

Oh wait, that comes a bit later. Heres the continuation...

It's 3pm. I almost finished scanning the documents at work. Worried about Teddy, I picked up the phone and called Yeoh Vet. A familiar voice was answering the phone, politely I may add. I asked about the operation. The person who answered my call says the operation was successfull and I can picked Teddy as soon as possible.

So I packed up my stuffs, leave some documents unscanned and confirms with the staffs whether they will be needing me. They dont. I raced downstairs (because waiting for lifts is so overrated) and starts heading to PJ using my bike.

The way back to the clinic is not as difficult as the first time. I managedd to get to the vet in about 20 minutes. Just as I was about to ring the bell, I can saw from outside that the staffs there are playing with Teddy. I am so excited. It seems that Teddy is active enough to play already. So I rang the bell and the staffs there let me in.

There are 2 woman there this time. The first one is the old lady I met in the morning. The other is a woman in around her late 20s and she wears something that looks like a nurse's uniform. After confirming my identity and stuffs like that, I have aa chat with the woman, who is apparently the vet's asistant.

The operation went really well. Teddy wasnt resisting much, and he doesnt crab and bite the doctor, which is very good. And after the operation, Teddy was unconcious for a few hours due to the anesthatic. But 1/2 hour before I arrive, he wakes up and in a very playful mood. The asistant and the secretary then entertains him during that time. She also mention about the stiches that was applied to the 'balls' area and they put a bandage around it, but Teddy doesnt like the bandage and took it off. And he seems to groom the area a lot. But other than that there seems to be no indication of pain or whatsoever from the glider.

I then thanked them both and wanted to thank the vet as well. But hes not there since he goes home already. I asked the people there to convey my thanks to the vet and started to head for PetShack. Woohoo!

The journey to PetShack was... Interesting. Apparently I manage to get myself on a highway to Cheras, then suddently I'm in Subang. And after a few hours under the hot blazing sun, I finally arrives at PetShack sometime around 5.15. Wow.

After that is another few stories... Haha... Tak payah cerita pun takpa. Bosan2 je. Let just say its a story that involves Me, Joan, Jack, Bonai, Pennywise and a praying mantis. tongue.gif
*
Yay for Teddy.... Interesting story hahahah.... anyway, Teddy's new friend will be ready in about 3 weeks time.

Thx u guys for ur help. So hun, will see u on wednesday right? Another question, i have bought some slurps and kept it in the freezer, wondering how should i serve it? dish it out cold or mix it with fruits?
*
Oh, so you are hear as well. Heard you got a joey from Pet Shack. Anyway, yes, the Slurp needs to be in the freezer. You should serve 1 teaspoon a day. Do not mix with fruits as the glider won't eat the fruits but lick all the slurp. Suggested feeding is feed Slurp once a day, either day or morning. Then feed fruits for the next meal.

Yups, see you on Wednesday.

QUOTE(Pennywise @ May 15 2008, 11:19 AM)
Hun,
Welcome back. I look forward to attend you talk on glider as well. Please provide us a time and date when you found out ok?

By the way, how is the other joey? Has she been tamed now? Better?
bonai, emino, sharil_routh,
Nice to meet you all at Pet Shack. It seems that Pet Shack is now the official hangout spot for LYP.net members.

Sorry, could not stay for long, I had to pick up the cage and leave yesterday to avoid the jam. I noticed bonai with glider without bonding pouch, ya? That's real cool to get it bonded so closely.
*
1st of June. I will update the 1st page. Time still dunno yet.

The joeys are alright. Crabby but not so bad now. Need a little more handling and taming then they will be ready for you.

QUOTE(NewbieBetta @ May 16 2008, 12:59 PM)
my glider bite me alot when its her hyper active period...around 2am~6am
*
That is normal. Nipping.... is how they show that they feel comfortable and like their favourite tree. It is also a bit like grooming. My gliders do groom me sometimes, very soft nipping. Once they nibble, I know it is the kind of nibbling they do on their favourite trees. Large nips, like a bite but with no wounds is what they would do to get sap from trees.... since they think we are their trees, that is why sometimes we can feel some pain.

Don't encourage nipping and nibbling. When they do it, just move them away by picking them up or push them away from the spot they are nipping.

QUOTE(EvanSoon @ May 16 2008, 01:24 PM)
hmmm.. happens to me at night also.. but he wont go on shoulder n bite.. he will go on my shoulder and scratch my shoulder.. than move to my neck and nib my neck which i cannot see him so cant control.. nib nib nib than BITE~

Your glider wants to find something tasty to eat. They chew and nibble tree bark for tree sap.... that's where the BITE you got come from.

QUOTE(bonai @ May 16 2008, 03:20 PM)
i'll post a video on the toys thing with gliders soon..
it's just that i dont have camera now..

anyone willing to sponsor me a digicam please pm me..

btw, i can't tell 100% anything that would work for any glider..
plus your glider is not bought from me so i don't really know her..
the tips i'm giving is something to try with..
and usually it works, not for my gliders only, but most of the glider in the world.. haha!
*
LOL... get a cheap 2nd hand digicam loh. Or why not you draw pictures for us hahahah.

There are playful gliders and there are those that don't really care about toys.

Today I found out I can entertain my Keera by just giving her a box of ribbons and cloth. Today Keera went to Pet Shack and had fun just sitting in a basket of collars with bells. And she likes to hide in toilet roll.... then Jack keeps poking her till poo hahahah....

QUOTE(krynzpeaches @ May 16 2008, 03:24 PM)
Yes, nibbling is a sign of affection as in the wild they will nibble their favourite tree smile.gif

So, in human world, we are their favourite tree smile.gif

It depends on how you can take it lah, sometimes the nibbles are very light and geli only... Sometimes it is a bit hard and hurtful... So if it hurts, just stop them, tell them "No" or pick them up immediately...

Micah loves to lick my neck, then slowly he will nibble... When I tell him no, he will lick-lick again... Then suddenly "garpp" nibble me back sweat.gif

Kesian lah we become their favourite tree. We kena pee, poo, nip and nibbles hahahah.

Now I'm slowly calm her back.  blush.gif
*
Your joey not so playful when it comes to string. Try getting those plastic balls with a bell inside that are usually sold for cats. I think around Rm1 or Rm2 for such thing.

Most gliders are entertained with simble tali or ribbon.... just slowly introduce.

QUOTE(silverwineus @ May 16 2008, 04:03 PM)
Can anyone advice me on this?

Should i opt for the plastic mesh or coated steel wire mesh for my cage?

Will they be able to bite the plastic mesh and escape?

Which better? smile.gif

Those heavy duty thick plastic mesh is better. The coated wire mesh can rust after a certain period and the plastic coating is very thin and breaks easily. Gliders aren't really chewers, there are odd ones which can chew through a flexarium but the flexarium has a very thin nylon mesh material. Those think plastic mesh is just too thick for a glider to chew.

Update you, I already bought the milk for you. Will let you know which day I will be at Cyber.

Anyway, you don't need to worry about the mealworm skin now.... he is learning, slowly he may learn how to spit it out. For now, you can always choose those white mealworms. The whitish mealworms are newly shed, so the skin is not that hard and easier to digest.

Gliders are animals that require space to jump, climb and hop around.... can a tank provide that? I would say ok if you can build a tank that is 9ft wide and 9 ft in height, provided that there is an exhaust fan and proper mesh for ventilation.

The petshops that are housing them in tanks are just for show only. Imagine a monkey locked up in a glass cube, will it be happy? Totally depress.... so this would be the same with gliders.

The 1st page covers what cages are suitable. We won't put tanks in the 1st page coz they are not hamsters.

Is not RM300 for every seller. From suppliers and those people that are seeking quick money, they sell joeys around RM250 coz they want people to see them as the cheapest. Of course once the price like RM250, sure people would buy but they forget one thing, which is that those RM250 joeys or less are normally underage and have a 50% chance of dying.

Petshops are selling them for Rm350 to RM488 for a single joey. They need to make profit to cover expenses and rent, normal lah but bear in mind that there are petshops selling underage joeys and there has been many cases where the joeys die before they reach 1 year old. So when getting from a petshop, research first. How to tell which petshop is good? Well, ask them basic questions. If the petshop cannot answer you, advise you to feed apple, pear and cat/dogfood... then forget it, just walk away. If a petshop say you can use tiny bird cages or hamster cages and use wood shavings, then get out of that shop.

Breeders or hobbyist sellers that are ethical would have a price range of RM300 to RM350. This is coz they spend alot of time and effort to care for the gliders. The food and accessory expenses is a bit high when it comes to breeding and caring for a small breeding colony. Normally commercial breeders just use small bird cages and coconut hides for their breeding gliders. Home breeders and hobbyist breeders use large spacious cages, use sleeping pouches, provide a variety of fruits, veggies and glider food mixtures. Commercial breeders would only feed apples and catfood. That is why they can sell joeys at RM200 to Rm250..... but they joeys are normally unhealthy coz not properly weaned.

Gliders sleep with their ears half relax.... the ears stand up(erect) when they are alert and healthy. Ears that go down means glider is scared or unhealthy. Normally when scared, the ears twitch alot to hear the new sounds but stay low coz scared.... but when sick, the ears don't really twitch and they are not active.
