Windows Server 2008 is NOT meant for home users.
It is for, well, server usage. You can enable Aero, even Media Center on it (by tweaking of course)... Essentially, it is built upon Vista. I don't see a reason to use it. And its 'Windows Server 2008' not 'Windows 2008'... Added on May 8, 2008, 8:38 pm QUOTE(linkinstreet @ Apr 30 2008, 10:33 AM) It is a myth. No such thing. I even wrote an article about it. It is 'a' hard disk process. Its not like little men are scrubbing and scratching on the surface of the hard disk. Edit : I can give the FULL dose of this explanation... i manage to get Kaspersky Internet Security 7.01.325, installed but the funny thing is... the key i inserted said that invalid key or check system date
![]() activating using trial key, it's fine now other than that... 3D Vantage ran flawlessly, Winamp, µTorrent 1.8 Beta 10054, Firefox (i even use MozBackup), that i already made it in XP before... still testing on some apps... updates: tried Battlefield 2 games, went well... but too bad, my sound card (Creative Audigy 2 ZS) didn't support hardware rendering updates: Call of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare running well too, can even update and update PunkBuster This post has been edited by sniper69: May 9 2008, 11:56 AM |

They pretty much scaled down the multimedia options(and anything not wanted or unrelated to Server 2008) to increase reliability. im not sure if this helps : http://www.win2008workstation.com/wordpres...d-acceleration/
maybe Audigy series need extra addon for vista like the X-Fi series called "Creative ALchemy" "Creative ALchemy" are given freely for X-Fi, but for Audigy you need to buy it if not mistaken http://www.soundblaster.com/alchemy/ some notes on audio acceleration for vista : http://connect.creativelabs.com/alchemy/default.aspx edit : QUOTE ALchemy for Audigy - Free Edition Creative has reviewed the discussions concerning ALchemy for Audigy on this forum and others. A new free version of the ALchemy application for Audigy owners will be released in the week of May 19th, 2008. Audigy owners that have already purchased ALchemy are being offered a refund of the purchase price of $9.99. To request a refund, please visit here. Complete the email form specifying the email address you used to purchase ALchemy For Audigy. The refund will be made to the credit card that was used for the original purchase. Please allow 30 days for the refund to take place. This offer is valid until 30th June 2008. The ALchemy application is being provided independent of the drivers, as it is not a driver. The new version of the application will work with both X-Fi and Audigy series products, and we have added additional updates relating to some popular games that behave differently on the X-Fi chipset as compared to the Audigy chipset. We would suggest you download the latest version from Creative.com when it becomes available. Thanks for all of your support and feedback. Even though it's based on the same exact kernel, the components are different, the usage is different. Conclusion - Windows Server 2008 is a GOOD SERVER OPERATING SYSTEM, GOD DAMN IT! |

Wootz, windows activated!
Everything are running fine currently except the nvidia control panel which will crash when I don't really know when and also after LAN transferring. I would say performance is on par/faster than XP but not the boot time(after activated theme/sidebar). Another thing is that, surfing speed is faster and sometimes burst speed occured while downloading!(maybe those are illusion by my mind/self consolation perhaps) I didn't try gaming thought, as I'm not into it. But one disadvatage, no home/personal anti-virus(popular ones) allowed on windows server. I hate vista before this, but I've to used them when my friends and family need my helps. Oh well, WS2k8 really surprised me. I like it, and I love it even more. This post has been edited by Shengz: May 17 2008, 11:57 PM |
