seriously, you got the benchmark/info wrong, TS.

Server line of Windows OS was not meant to play games and run your multimedia applications. It was intended to run Internet and networking application servers. Even though you may run those programs, the functionality was intended for servers, not desktops.

Windows Server 2008 is an enterprise server edition of kernel 6.0.6001 release. It is based on the same kernel as Vista SP1, but it was not intended to run on your desktop. For server line, fancy desktop, multimedia and all those eye candies are not needed to be run on desktop application. This is to reduce the load, so your server applications may have more resources and CPU time.

Anyways, Windows Server 2008 has good install options
1) Server Core - good for minimal Internet and networking server management, intended to run via remote management console or simply command lines. Good for administrators who love simplisitic environment.

2) Full Installation - intended for full-featured Windows server line with Explorer as desktop shell, Microsoft .NET Framework and Management consoles. More services available if full installation is chosen.

Put it in a simple way - Windows Server 2008 is not replacement for Vista.

2008 is 100% not be vista replacement, thats why i put "Vista replacement?"
i just want people to give 2008 a try, its up to them to choose
for me, it is fun to play around with 2008, since the feel almost like linux where you can enable/disable either server service or desktop service
*
er... you can also disable services in Vista. Just like, exception for Home Basic and Home Premium, which you may download MMC separately or use the command line sc or msconfig (for non-technical users).

Windows Server 2008 isn't Linux, and doesn't feel like Linux-based operating system at all tongue.gif
Still you are too far off about the replacement matter.

Windows Server 2008 was meant to replace Windows Server 2003, not Windows Vista.
Hints:
1) New server OS replaces old server OS
2) New desktop OS replaces old desktop OS

clearly you need to learn more, but hey, I am experimenting Windows Server 2008 at home and office.
Try Server Core features, you can learn more about networking and remote maintenance, you know.

For gaming stick to Windows Vista or Windows XP laugh.gif

doh.gif, does anybody else using this good OS? IMO... Windows Server 2008 is a good OS compared to Vista Ultimate which is bloated with other things... with Server 2008, we can even add like Vista Ultimate if you want to... icon_idea.gif

it's not like i'm saying Windows Server 2008 is different from Vista, in fact... i know for a fact that Windows Server 2008 build from Vista, but i think... Windows Server 2008 is faster icon_idea.gif

once mislead, always mislead. blind leading the blind.
For Bill's sake, this is a server operating system, not mean for daily desktop use.
do no compare what you have for server operating system with a desktop operating system.
Even though it's based on the same exact kernel, the components are different, the usage is different.

Conclusion - Windows Server 2008 is a GOOD SERVER OPERATING SYSTEM, GOD DAMN IT!

Hmm.. I've reformat, was kind of a hassle. Have to call microsoft to get my new installation ID, anyway I'm glad it does not crash randomly now.

Memory limits for windows server is different from workstation os? I've seen this awhile back. But don't understand why. I've upgraded to Enterprise version in case my heart got itchy and buy more ram to slot in. LOL!
