I am some guy from Germany who visited KL a few days ago. My iPhone 8GB was stolen during my stay at Traders Hotel (April 8).

I have some details regarding the theft:

iPhone IMEI: 011301001793701
iPhone Serial: 7T739393WH8

One of my contacts got a text message after the iPhone was stolen, it was send from a Malaysian number. Probably it was an accidently send message from the stolen iPhone, she never got text messages from Malaysia before

Text of the message: Hi jh
Sender's number: +60162188848 (016-2188848)

Are there any services in Malaysia to lock phones or maybe to reverse lookup numbers? Are there any remote ways to contact the police in English, is there an English website?

I'm really looking forward to all tipps and recommendations from you.

In Malaysia, everyone is required to register himself upon purchasing a prepaid simcard. So, it is possible for you to find out who is the sender if you bring this matter to the police.

Yup police might able to trace the number of the owner if you went to report the matter to them.

Since the number 016 2188848 belongs to Digi. You may try calling up Digi customer service at 016 2211800 to make an enquiry on the number.

Yup, try to call digi center and also make a report that ur phone have been stolen and i think police can trace the owner of that no and can ask about stolen phone..

and please check with the hotel camera for some cctv if the hotel have a record of what happened near the place where your phone got stolen.

IPhone no the track function software like the samsung hp?
if its have...its no worry for the hp get stole.

malaysian police doesn't bother to investigate such a small case, they will let you report but will not do any thing after that.You probably want to take another approach.

Since you are a tourist, maybe you want to go down the path of complaining to the tourism department or something and express your frustration about security in m'sia toward foreigner. That might have better impact on trying to contact malaysian police.

take it up to Digi... Tell them what has happened and get them to assist you in the steps you can take to get your phone back...

These days I am not so sure that they have the correct ID during registration, since some people had few numbers from the same operator, dont know whether this is allowed.

get the phone back? i doubt so. but they might be able to block the phone .

In my opinion DiGi will not help you trace nor reveal personal details from that number unless you have already reported to the police and got some kind of letter from them.

First call up DiGi , dont forget the +60 for the international code and complain to them. Your next step is to complain to the tourism department of Malaysia , just vent your anger and say this country isn't secure since you are a tourist , they would take it seriously. Just complain to both sides and voila , lets see how they deal with it

you need to explain and disgest as how this message from the o16 number come about...

if it is malaysia sim card ... then it is not shocking thing to received a sms message for no reason cos this sim card might be used by other owner B4 You ...

his friend received the message, not him. His friend contact is still in the iphone even though the thief changed the sim card.

so .. what this the point to call DIGI .. and what is the point of a police report ....

a phone is lost .. mean a phone is lost .... unless a an iphone is found then confirm the imei phone number belong to him....

then what ... fly from germany to KL to claim the phone ... ?????

Yes the phone is lost, however there is a Malaysian number sending a message to his friend which means it could possibly be the person who stole his phone. So what everyone suggesting now is to report to the police so that DiGi would help get some information on that number since even prepaid numbers have to be registered now.

If you don't intend to make a contribution, then why bother posting? You're making yourself look stupid. His friend got a message from a DIGI number, which means the DIGI number could belong to the thief. DIGI might be able to get the information of the thief through the registration details of the number's owner.

If, through a stroke of luck, the phone is recovered, there is no need to fly from Germany to KL to claim the phone. There is something called airmail, a service which you can use to post items to foreign countries, heard of that?

Im familiar with the procedure because I've just encountered an almost similar situation.

#1 You could contact the hotel for assistant.
They might/might not not help you without a prove of a police report is made.

Is your phone stolen in public location or from your room?

#2 Make a police report, you can finally observe the efficiency of Malaysian police. You have to insist them to follow this lead.

#3 Contact the mobile provider, DIGI for a lookup on that number. They will most likely ask you to present your police report due to customer confidentiality.

Dear Robert, that is a Digi number. You can contact Digi, lodge a report with the police station. Nowadays, they can track the person down as the person would have to register the number to a particular address, plus with Digi, they can track down usage to the nearest base station. Good luck!

Well let's just carry on with what you lost. Try to be careful next time when handling with expensive gadgets. I lost my iPod before and now im very very cautious =)

lets go get our iphone and ipods engraved.. i got mine engraved, saying




probability if it getting stolen should be much lesser i think, coz theres a name there and it has no value if he's gonna sell it away.. unless he's gonna use it..

on another thought, i dont think engraving will help much either, they'll just take it if it looks expensive.. i dont think they have the time to look closely before they steal -- "hmm... this one got scratches, dun wanna steal.. i'll go steal another without scratches" .. "hmm..this one got engraving, dont wanna steal.. i'll go steal another one without any engravings" ..
