i'm still waiting for some kind soul to post results on a bad weather condition. as i'm also looking forward to these services, i do hope signal strength doesnt deteriorate too badly. looks like today is gonna be a good day for testing ....anyone with results while raining heavily please advice.
*
Previously it's not really been raining. It's been hot like don't know what. But what's funny is how 1 member mentioned they couldn't approve his application because he was located at 15th floor. huh.gif

QUOTE(Acrisius @ Aug 6 2008, 03:52 PM)
I registered on last Sunday. and last night i got a call from them.

That's real quick. Could it be you're in an area they've not visited yet? tongue.gif

QUOTE(unnamed @ Aug 6 2008, 09:29 PM)
how would this technology in the future be used in handphones when ppl are located inside buildings?
*
Well, I think it's some form of chipset they have to build into a device. As technology progresses, they shrink therefore mobile devices might see a smaller form factor in future even when the standard supports Wimax. At least, that's what I feel towards technology advancements. tongue.gif

QUOTE(prasys @ Aug 6 2008, 09:55 PM)
Thread Cleaned and Merged

I've merged few similar threads into one and cleaned couple of smaller ones. So it will be easier for users to disuss on P1 WiMax Service !

Just a bit of housekeeping
*
No wonder I couldn't find the previous one. LOL! But good call.

QUOTE(p4n6 @ Aug 6 2008, 10:44 PM)
Do you think the signal from outside can actually penetrate into the shopping mall?
*
This is something I wouldn't mind knowing as well. Especially if you're sitting in a cafe deep center inside the mall or Lower Ground. hmm.gif

QUOTE(nickelby @ Aug 7 2008, 06:51 AM)
Yeah better to wait for official pricing. Who knows that price list is also just "trial" prices. But just because the speed is good now doesn't mean that it will last like that forever. The service is still new hence not many people are using so the ISP has a better hand in managing it. Time will tell if it doesn't turn out to be like Streamyx. Streamyx at one point was very good (back in 2002 when I first subscribed).
*
Well...many of us are still awaiting their official announcement. It's like though we hear so much about P1 but we they haven't tempted us yet with their prices. I wonder why. Hmm...

And yes, they better be prepared to build more stations to maintain a consistent performance of their promised speeds. Otherwise, we'll hear the same old thing in the blogosphere about inconsistent connection speeds and worst, downtime. T_T

QUOTE(soul2soul)
sorry guys, Wimax won't be cheap according to internal sources. Expect it to be around 100+

Sure boh?! Well...if it's the 2.6Mbps one like PC Fair. I sure as hell wouldn't mind. If it's RM80-90 for 1.5Mbps, that would be ideal for me. thumbup.gif

QUOTE(Calvin871989 @ Aug 8 2008, 04:12 PM)
ok wateva this thread is about, question is, in general is this better then streamyx?
*
Well...many expressed stability so far. That's in terms of general usage. In terms of computer gaming, no one reported that yet. As for p2p, unless you're one of those who they bumped up your speed accidentally or to keep you quiet...no one's compared the p2p of Streamyx and Wimax yet.

QUOTE(typicalsite @ Aug 8 2008, 04:17 PM)
BETTER if u r juz a light to medium users only, email, surf, frenster, ym, skype...
NOT SO BETTER if u r gaming with it or hardcore downloading with it...

wireless internet have a lot of losses = high ping
*
Are you a trial user who's already tested online gaming and p2p with Wimax?

Anyway, I'm still figuring out WHY they say higher than 10 floors isn't suitable. hmm.gif

QUOTE(Acrisius @ Aug 9 2008, 12:36 AM)
They said higher than 10 floor is not suitable because for this moment, All PacketOne's signal antena are not that high enough to support a good signal or performance for the higher buildings. But, they also did mention about in the future, The company will support the signal for much higher buildings, condos and apartments areas.
*
Ahhh, so that's the explanation of it. rclxms.gif

QUOTE(owc @ Aug 9 2008, 10:35 AM)
Why i have go to http://www.p1w1max.com/ for sign up for try from PIKOM PC Fair but still not get any call or respond that they giving me try. It seems they don't let people try. After that, when i call to their customer service center, they said that maybe is my location no coverage. I told them i am at setapak, and then they say that they pick the name as luckily draw omg.... only the chosen one can be a tester....

Is it any way to be tester, my luck not very good. Every time draw i sure lose, so don't need think about tester.

1 good suggestion, luckily draw should be giving freebie? But a testing 2 week only after that need sign 2 years contract?

Besides, they ask me when i subscribe to be tester, i tell them at the PIKOM KLCC Convention Center. They said 3 day they will give respond to the winner of tester, after 3 day if they no contact you will consider loser.

Lastly, i ask them how to encounter this loser situation, they said ask us keep summit the online application….. haiz…..FREE USE 2 WEEK….. SO HARD TO GET IT…..
*
Well, besides data mining I suppose it's not you're a loser or anything but it's really dumb luck if you get to try the service. For the 2 year thing, I believe it's just a rumour and not a conclusive concrete information of it. So we'll have to wait and see later.

QUOTE(prasys @ Aug 9 2008, 08:31 PM)
For an average user , nothing. For p2pers , it means heaven and it allows other computers to establish a direct connection with their pc which dramatically increases the speed. For gamers , it enables them to host games such as DOTA (Warcraft III) or your own Counter-Strike Server. For pro users , it allows their pc to act as a SSH Server , web server  and a VNC server - which allows them to remote control their home computer. Lots of benefits

ISPs in Malaysia that offers Public IP with the ability to port forward  - TM Streamyx  , Jaring Wired/Wireless (jaring doesn't block any external port ,  Time Webbit Wireless Broadband and izzi
I hope you can conduct some tests later. Oh if you have MSN or any IM - I would love to get in touch with you - The reason is mainly to collect data and then write a report and publish it , so that it will be useful for other WiMax customers and other folks alike. I do have a couple of tools but you may have to download cygwin and run it - as most of it are meant for *nix platform. This to gather data on the modem and post more information about it

Its Linux for sure , port 80 in this case refers to apache/web service - that is meant for the web configuration and port 513 in this case is rlogin - remote login which is something like telnet and allows remote login , in other words it allows you to login remotely. But rlogin is rarely used these days as its not secure , I guess it will be used by p1 folks/support team to monitor or to perform upgrades or tweaking in the modem. This GIVES them full control over the modem/connection which is bad

I guess I'll have to stick with my trusty streamyx for now !
*
True enough without port forwarding the speeds aren't as great. But what about services like BolehVPN? Could those help in terms of P2P?

i heard my friend said, during trail and you spoil the modem, you have to paid RM1500!?

Wow. But I can understand. However, what I'd like to see if the modem wasn't spoiled but broke down on its own then users get to bring the feedback to them.

QUOTE(p4n6 @ Aug 10 2008, 12:50 PM)
How to define spoil? If the modem broken due to overheating ... that consider as we broke it???

I've not heard of overheating modem before. Fried one, yes. Overheating, no. How can a modem overheat? Prolong usage without turning it off?

As for pricing and speeds package, we have to wait until  19th August to know that.

Just one thing to ask, when they said competitive pricing package, does it mean better (as in cheaper) or same rate?
*
Well, it's exactly 7-days wait time before the official launch. So I say... bring on the PRICES! flex.gif

But what I wanted to say was, they started in places like Setapak. KLCC also got but...I don't understand why Setapak and not more in Subang, Kelana Jaya, TTDI - higher density areas.

Unless they found too many highrise condos around here. ROFL!

Was invited for the P1 Wimax official launch today. Superb show! With Hannah Tan as the MC. biggrin.gif

As for the prices, their brochures seem to have displayed the non-promotion deal as on their website. In the brochure, the packages state:

P1 W1MAX Personal

Speed - No contract rate - 12 months rate - 24 months rate

400kbps - 69 - 59 - 49
700 kbps - 89 - 79 - 69
1.2Mbps - 109 - 99 - 89
2.4Mbps - 269 - 239 - 209

P1 W1MAX Business

Speed - No contract rate - 12 months rate - 24 months rate

400kbps - 79 - 69 - 59
700 kbps - 109 - 99 - 89
1.2Mbps - 169 - 159 - 149
2.4Mbps - 369 - 339 - 309

Charges:
Modem fee - 999 (upfront)
Registration fee - 100 (upfront)
Activation - 50 (1st bill)
Stamp duty - 10 (1st bill)

Installation fee - 80 (Optional)
Nationwide Access fee - 10 per month (optional)

Currently, on the P1 website from 20-30 September (think they made a typo and said August) they are giving the modem FREE - worth RM999! So if I wanted to register, I'd do it before August 30th otherwise the modem fee is going to setback a ton of people. For me who's in an area that's not supported, it sucks. cry.gif

Just checked their website and it seems they've updated it with the full price list now. From what I can see, it'll be more beneficial to have the Business Plan as the discount there is more. But still...no coverage in my area - nearest is SS7. cry.gif

Same here. I'm scared by the time it gets to my area I'm going to have to pay RM999. cry.gif

There's no menu. It's on the modem itself. 3 colors; red, yellow and green.

Red - no connection/weak connection
Yellow - average connection
Green - optimum/best connection

It's pronounced Why-Max. 1 = i.

Not sure why'd they went with 1337 (leet) speak but I guess it's because they want to create interest among gamers as well. Anyway, it's pronounced as Wimax. Not.. W-One-Max. tongue.gif

Frankly speaking i stick with D98 Celcom package with up to 3.6Mbps on HSPDA speed download with better coverage. I have use more than 100GB data transfer per month no warning at all.
*
Well, fair usage is the only way to control P2P and allow everyone to use the Internet with pure satisfaction. Can't compare to those countries with high speeds because if you're already downloading super fast then what's considered slow anymore? LOL!

Though disappointing to have a limitation, if their speeds are on par with Streamyx with better promises - I'll still wave bye-bye to Streamyx.

QUOTE(Calvin871989 @ Aug 21 2008, 05:57 PM)
sweet, i like how the modem works.  rclxms.gif

anways ill be going for the P1 W1Max 1200 package end of this year on a 12 or 24 month contract with a speed of 1.2 mbps.

and i can say bye bye to streamyx forever...  rclxm9.gif

1.2 is not bad rite guys ? or should i go for 700 ? hmm.gif

i cant go for 2.4 mbps cause ive no money to pay and i rather hang myself. lol besides why do i even need 2.4 ?  shakehead.gif
*
I'd probably go with 1.2Mbps as well. Spoiled by nothing less than 1Mbps. LOL! tongue.gif

The 2.4Mbps is a little out of reach for my personal budget.

What if the unlucky subscriber receive an defective modem which damage or burn after few day usage?
*
If you're a subscriber, there is a 1-year warranty as mentioned by some forum member earlier.

Nevertheless, I still would find it weird because the hardware burns out after being left turned on for 365 days 24/7. Mainly because, our modem routers (no matter what brand) is left that way and they've not experienced any issues.

Though I've heard some cases of hardware overheating. Must be either 'ciplak' brand or the components used are 'ciplak' low cost so I can make more money kind. laugh.gif

At the moment, Wimax modems aren't manufactured in bulk if I'm not mistaken - at least to consumers.

This kinda scenario reminds me of the days when U.S.Robotics sold their 33.6 or 56kbps modems. ROFL! But yes, Wimax modems I believe aren't freely available for purchase yet.

O.o very nice p2p speed, it would be better if the download achieve 50% or something to show stability.
*
I'm not being sarcastic but wouldn't it be better if he recorded 10-20 minutes of his downloading on video then to show us the stability? nod.gif

Anyway, I believe a report of every 15-30 mins intervals of the speed is fine. It'll at least give us an idea.

Up next is online gaming...WoW or TF2 or something which connects to international servers. biggrin.gif

when i call their technical department, they said they didn't even know about it.
it it true? that they don't even know or just pretent.
hence, they will have more sales?
any opinion?

is it what they know only $?  sweat.gif
*
Probably cause it's in their T&C so the Techs haven't been briefed about this information. Most likely it's their customer service are ones who should know this.

Tech's like in Screamyx are meant to troubleshoot problems - if our problems ever reached Screamyx techs. tongue.gif

QUOTE(Pip_X @ Aug 30 2008, 08:42 AM)
Maybe they should just put into the broucher/website:

"Enjoy Unlimited Broadband at 20GB/month!"

Or something like that.
*
I think if they did it that way, less people will be interested because they'll right away ask why Streamyx is unlimited. Marketing message to the general public wise won't sound as good. tongue.gif

But I can agree from your standpoint, providers need to be more open about some of the 'tiny' details they'll place consumers like us on especially since we might be signing a 12-24 month contract. sad.gif

So far no reports from current users on the online gaming and P2P - the last one was only 1 person.
