does it mean that we do not provide any username and password??

You do. Just not in the computer or the modem. Like what you'd do with your Streamyx connection. These would be all keyed into the modem or their system, so the moment u plug it in and use...you'd be online. smile.gif

One thing I find annoying about P1 is that they use some kind of transparent web proxy which doesn't always work.

For instance, right now I can not pull up any web pages using P1, but I can ssh, ping, FTP, everything else.

So I tried the following experiment:

1) ssh to a third host, then ssh to my web server in USA.

2) Run a packet sniffer on the web server, filtering based on my P1 IP.

3) From my PC, telnet to port 80 on the web server. I get a connection, issue a GET request, and then the connection closes. All this time, there is no traffic showing in the packet sniffer.

4) Therefore I can conclude that the connection on port 80 was intercepted and answered by a man in the middle, almost certainly at P1.

I've repeated the experiment with other servers at other data centers and observed identical results. So the problem isn't at the server end. And if I use a VPN or plain proxy to reach those servers on port 80, it works fine.

This is the third time in three days I've seen an outage from the P1 web proxy. Normally they just last for a few minutes but one of them was a bit longer.

Hmm, possibly the techs are suspecting something else happening. That's why they intercepted. Anyway, if it is in fact a legit thing then I'd write to P1 in explanation and request for the changes. After all, I'm sure there are web developers and etc who do SSH. smile.gif

Anyway, no harm informing them I believe.

My concern here is how will it affect some applications such as gaming on my PS3, setting up logmein on my PC to allow remote access, etc. Many forumers have mentioned that gaming P1 is a no-go.

Would like to hear your input on this matter.

Thanks in advance.

I, too, would seriously want to know more about the online gaming. If it's one thing I can't stand now is internet sharing in a household with 4-5 people. My ping in TF2 goes from 50 all the way to 900+.

Hi there smile.gif

Thank you for subscribing with us.
Few questions in regards to your issue.
1) Are you using a WiFi router or connecting directly? is there a difference in the speed when you connect direct and with the WiFi router?
2) Have you tried shifting the location of your modem to see if the signal is better anywhere else in your area?
3) We did have report recently that Setapak/Sentul and also Subang have experience some problems. are you in these areas?
4) May we know where you are located? (Jalan) and we will advise you on which area to face the modem - base station location

Do let us know,
Thank you

I'm really surprised the support has come here now. But this is a really good sign. They'd be able to reply faster and monitor satisfaction way better than TM has ever done. tongue.gif

Anyway, as mentioned...everyone on Wimax is soon to be a signal master. LOL!

I'm really intrigued by their marketing team. It's not normal you find an ISP coming up with ideas like this. Especially when this is letting the users decide where the demand is higher. LOL! tongue.gif

Is there anyway for the user itself to check how much he/she had used the bandwidth limit? If no, do u guys planing to implement a bandwidth checking meter( something like Tmnet done) to allow user to check it?
*
QUOTE(LEVIATHAN @ Jan 5 2009, 06:49 PM)
Yea. Usage meter at Self Care would be nice. I myself expressed this matter thru their Customer Support page. I hope to hear from them soon.
*
Last I was invited for their discussion, they did mention they're gonna incorporate it into the user side. So instead of them monitoring, it's left to the users. smile.gif

Though in addition, I hope they come up with a widget. wink.gif

QUOTE(Naoko Kensaku @ Jan 9 2009, 11:17 AM)
So far use P1 quite ok, only had one problem with my modem dying (about 1 day before Trial period died too!) in early dec.

Their Telephone customer service actually next to useless one. Sometimes they sound just like TM (Only for the male speakers though, don't know why their female tech every time can solve my prob, and I am a girl too, not guy).

What happened in the end I sent my modem back to P1 (drove to their HQ on my off day, since they are open every day including Public Holidays) and got an immediate change after their cust service check for me. Within 6 hours activated already, so far speeds are ok except when updating Ubuntu from the Malaysian server.

BT is sometimes throttled but suspect could be due to the program I am using (my upload speeds for Deluge and utorrent are quite different, but one is windows and the other is ubuntu), but at least when I am playing games like Granado Espada and Maplestory there's no lag and not like it cannot connect like what happened with TM.

I have issues when the modem is on more than 24 hours I have to switch it off and then hard reset before I can connect, but beside that no issue. So far loving the speed, more stable and higher than TM. Won't go back to TM for anything, now I give the connection to my brother to solve heh.

For their fair usage policy, I understand from one of my friends working for P1 means that if you exceeded the limit, your speed will be throttled during certain peak times in your area. This one you have to ask P1 when is that time; the limit will be lifted after the peak hours, so if the peak hours is around 8pm to 1am in your area on Fridays till Tuesdays, then your speed will be lowered, but after 1am should be ok di.

The last one about when they block I think you better ask them directly.

So yeah, consider myself a satisfied user although they say that I am just *outside* their coverage area. biggrin.gif

Edit: Forgot to mention, their over the counter staff Nazmin really knows what she is doing. A few days after she changed my modem, she actually called me up to do a followup and make sure that the connection is stable. Damn good service.

ROFL! Maybe the guys too ego think they all damn smart - until they speak to another guy. tongue.gif

But at least you solved the problem in the end. Though I'm rather surprised the modem died. hmm.gif
