i don see any ground breaking features except for touchscreen and larger screen.

If it is equipped with 5megapix I might buy I don feel like downgrading from 5megapix to 3megapix

This tube using single processor. Unlike N95 and N82 using dual processor because of the 5 megapix. The processor in Tube cannot support 5megapix thats why they put 3megapix only. And that is also one of the reason why the price is TAGed at HKD3000.
Without 3D hardware accelerator is a bit of the downside of this phone. Having such a big screen but without any FANCY/EYE CANDY animated UI is really dissapointed. 3D accelerator comes with the second processor. That explain why it doesnt have 5megapix, cheaper price and without fancy UI.

Like the N81 without 3D hardware accelerator but implementing FP2 animation UI, and other menu layout and cause laggyness is really a stupid move by nokia.
*
Have you check out the actual videos of it yet? There are transitions on the user interface and it is nothing but smooth and intuitive. Also, although N95 has dual processors, there is no nothing in the developer documentation that states 3D hardware acceleration (OpenGL ES PowerVR MBX) is included in the second processor. So far, the only best guess is the dual ARM 11 processors refers to 1 for the main application accelerator and the remaining for the Nokia RAP processor for voice stack. This is the same implementation on WinMo PDA phones where they have 1 for application and 1 for baseband communication.

The tube do not have 5MP capability is because its not an N-series model. The ExpressMusic 5800 is in fact a trial product by Nokia in testing its S60 Touch. If it is successful, you will soon see an N-series offering in the near future. As far as the videos are showing, there are no sign of lagging on the interface but more to the unresponsiveness of the touchscreen which needs a lot of improvement.

6220 is not N series model but having almost the same specs like N82.

People having the wrong perception that N series must have the best specs and xpress music must have the best sound. N81 can be said to have the best sound quality compare to other xpress music and walkman phone.

Nokia dont include its documentation about the 3D hardware accellerator and GOLDEN EYE. N82/N95 uses a TI OMAP 2420 as CPU and a TI OMAP DM290 GOLDENEYE for camera. IINM TUBE using the same processor with N78.

I think better not to post too much and no one will be interested to read after all.
*
Nokia does not include these information and obviously it will not because of intellectual reasons. But it is available at various symbian S60 specific developer sites which is important so people can write the appropriate applications. And you're sure about that Goldeneye thing? Seriously?

If people is having the wrong perception of N-series to have the best specifications, then N-series' branding is very successful. Because yes, N-series will have the best specifications. Hands down. XpressMusic phones are music-centric products with dedicated keys for controlling only one thing - MUSIC. In fact N-series was suppose to handle this end of the market until Sony Ericsson was so successful with its Walkman phone and the Cybershots forcing Nokia to introduce XpressMusic and augment N-series' role into camera business. Once in awhile, good things from N-series or XpressMusic phones get trickle down to its 'normal' phones which is a good deal for users.

Sometimes, its not about how well it sings its tunes but how well it presents itself. N81 can be good at sound quality but it is not as easy to use compared to XpressMusic products in terms of music playback (no dedicated music keys). Ooh, don't tell me about that handsfree dongle with dedicated music buttons.

Clearly, people have different views of what is the device for them. If it is not good enough for you and you have something better in mind, then it is your perception. Nothing wrong.

They had a roadshow at Mid Valley yesterday and i got to play with one.
The sales rep said it will be available next month.
the price will be 2000+RM
*
They had it in Midvalley? Wow... should have gone there and check it out. How was the overall interface handling? RM2000+ is a little steep in the price since it is only a midrange phone. I was hoping Nokia would target the RM1600-1800 range.

Looks like a sunglass cover box. Hahaha! Actually I feel like selling my HTC Diamond for this. 2.8" touch screen isn't really big for a touch operated phone.

thought you were saying about eye-spec to improve the eye-seeing...used to see it in Guardian and some pharmacy... whistling.gif

Yeah, the perforated design looks like those therapy spectacle frame you use to relax your eyes. Anyway the 5800 is a nice phone but after seeing N97's home screen, I wonder if the 5800 will have the same home screen. I like the idea of different widget tabs for Facebook, Ovi, etc. The 5800 has so much real estate screen space, it would be great to have them.

I think it will be a bit different....like N Series and other series...that is how they make more MONEY....change a bit design and a bit different of the inside platform...more hp to sell and more revenue coming in...or they cater for different type of buyers
*
Yeah, you're right too. Anyway the XM 5800 is a little long in the tooth now. Till now also no news and releases. Product announcements till releases are too far apart. Would prefer announcements and immediate releases. Mobile companies are sure fishing a lot these days. Hehe!

Did the ads said when will launch in malaysia?

I really hope they will launch in time for Christmas or at least The New Year. 2-3 weeks ago, the Nokia KLCC also had the promotional leaflets ready. I asked the salesperson and he said mid December.

Yeah, I read a Nokia official reply at this blog explaining that the Nokia ExpressMusic 5800 will be announced in Q1 2009. I guess it should be January but I do hope that they may tie end of December in too. biggrin.gif

Lets hope the price is accurate. If it goes up any further, then I would have to think twice.

My goodness, those pictures make me goes uncontrollable! Haha! So the screen sensitivity goes down a notch when you apply a screen protector. hmm.gif Strange. Regarding the auto-rotate response, guess it'll take few rounds of software update to improvise it. The N85's recent software update improve the performance of auto-rotation. So I'm not worried.

well iphone interface cooler.. haha.. plus it has ipod inside...and somehow the qwerty keyboard seems easier to use... i dunno la the 5800 to is starting to seem abit over priced here la... thats the thing... its not really in the mid affordable range
*
Yes, the interface is more fluid and the capacitive touch screen is a star. It makes the qwerty keyboard easier to use. However, it is not a good imaging device (by today's mobile phone standards). It doesn't have video call feature. I know we don't get to use it everytime but it is a feel-good feature I would rather keep in my pocket. Never know when I might use it.

haha... well i just want a nice touch screen smart phone... the nokia 5800 seemed like the ultimate replacement when i heard abt the retail price of 295 euros... i guess need to keep saving up until can afford one
*
Yeah, after trying out touch-enabled phones from UIQ to Windows Mobile while at the same time having the iPod Touch, the only thing left is Symbian S60. When I heard the 5800 will have this feature, I was very excited. I commend Nokia's marketing approach in selling it cheap (less than RM2000) compared with other touch-enabled PDA phones which most of the time went over RM2500 when they are first launched. One of the services that brought my interest to the 5800 is the Comes with Music service where you can download infinite number of songs in its music stores for 12 months and still keep it when it all expires. That'll keep music lovers coming back for more Nokia products.

I just hope, Nokia will keep to the less than RM2000 price point and introduce the service to Malaysians.

i agree wit u man... they claim it to be a midrange phone yet the pricing is so high... rclxub.gif

Guess this is their opportunity to bring mid-range phones to a new price level. With the high-end phones busting RM3000 price point, there will be a void in the RM2000-RM2500 price range. Guess this is like a upper-mid range model then?

At 1.8K, hopefully, next year can drop until 1200myr only worth

Already got release indication from Nokia Pavilion that it will be released next month at slightly less than RM2000. So RM1800-1899 is very real now. They'll be receiving sales and promotion instruction anytime by now.

I think it can since all new Nokia products are capable of displaying flash, java and stream youtube videos.

yii.. the price should be dropping once the ori has launched.
oh ya the original C905 will launch in next week, according to some forumers, see how the AP price will slide
*
Should be same case like the Sony Ericsson G700. The AP was available way before the original hit retail. When the original went live, G700's price was reduce by about RM200-400 in few months. I guess the same will happen for 5800 and C905. Makes me wonder why Nokia/SE has been delaying launch in Malaysia. We used to be quite updated. Either this or the 'pirates' have been more efficient. biggrin.gif

Yeah I am also in a dilemma as to wait for the original launch which will be in second week of January 2009 or the AP which is selliing at RM16xx with reputable AP companies. Reason is because the Nokia Comes With Music's Malaysia coverage is questionable.

I would like to explain further in this. Nokia Comes with Music service is different than Nokia Music Store. The preorder freebies of 1000 songs are your coupon for buying music from Nokia Music Store. The Nokia Comes with Music service could be different than Nokia Music Store. They are launching by country and implementation is a little different per country.

Check out this page and you know what I mean. If this is of any indication, sets from UK, India and Taiwan will have this service launching 2009. While countries like Malaysia, is questionable.

Haha like nokia will care? The more we make petitions the higher the price might goes, coz they see demands.

Yeah, might as well get AP set now since its RM16xx. Mostly are HK versions which is the set to get. I haven't been to lowyat this few days, so I am not sure how many traders are putting it up for sale. I found one guy from Garage section selling Nokia 5800 from Final Choice.
