Are u sure ori is going for more than 2k? bcos of the free headset and 1000 free music download...?

By the way below another picture of the phone and yes..for red button got 2 line.....ya ya...
*
If you are referring over lay image of the 'end' button or red button, yes it is. It is a design. Nothing wrong there. But since you took a photo in the dark and it showed light leaking from the red button, then I wish to say my phone did not have that problem.

just got i8510..  wink.gif thats why i kept asking u guys the SQ of tube compared to Innov8.. if its not much superior i can't afford to downgrade..  rolleyes.gif
*
Keep the INNOV8 lar. It has much better camera and video quality. The Nokia 5800 is not really at its best at the moment in terms of camera and video shooting. The pictures and videos are extremely noisy. I found an article stating that the Nokia 5800's sensor is small, even smaller than N95 or any that is used by Nokia before. It is only usable in daylight where we have sufficient sun light. Other than that, its noisy. Thats until Nokia updates the phone software.

i'll be an owner soon.. but afraid it wil be too laggy. tube users care 2 describe how lag it is? comparison of how laggy it is with other phones?
*
No lag at all. At most it is comparable to other Nokia Symbian phones. However, in media mode switching from vertical and horizontal mode will be a second or two slow.

i see i see. well thats good to know. i feared that it will lag like crazy. 1 question, is the sound quality better or equal 2 those of sony ericsson phones? or is it inferior 2 them? coz you would know that most sony ericsson phones hav great sound quality, i.e even the k618(my currrent hp hihi) whistling.gif
*
The stereo loudspeaker is on par with Sony Ericsson's with the SE phones being brighter as in the treble is more pronounced. The Nokia 5800's sound is flat and natural. Volume however is one notch below Sony Ericsson's but I believe you can better tweak the 5800's equalizer to compensate for that. So I would give it a 'on par' rating. I am confident that using Garmin voice navigation will never be a problem, just like the E71 and N95, etc. Its loud enough.

Clear video, clear audio, no jerkiness or such... Looks FAR, FAR better then transcoded PSP MP4 files even (not AVC, mind)... Plus the full 25min anime clip didn't eat even one bar of battery power! drool.gif
*
Yes yes! Glad to report that battery performance is satisfactory. I am on my 2nd round of battery cycle since getting the phone on last Thursday. In my 2nd round of testing, the phone was charged to full on Saturday afternoon. Now its Tuesday and I still have 3 bars. During this period, I made a reasonable amount of calls, sms and surfing on WIFI (about 15 mins each day).

Are Youtube vids watchable on the Tube? It would be a letdown if we cant do that with its awesome screen.
*
Yeah, I can browse youtube over WIFI without any problems. Downloads and streaming are fast. However there are some problem with aspect ratio. The 5800's 3.2" LCD is a 16:9 aspect ratio and most videos in youtube are of the conventional 4:3 ratios, so playing them on 5800 will be stretched sideways. Not sure how to configure it yet. But then its acceptable lar.

One thing for sure, my HTC Touch Diamond has a feature to stream high or low quality videos. The 5800 does not have this option so most downloads are optimized for mobile viewing (meaning low quality).

Jumping from AP to Ori set eh. If ori price doesn't suits you, you will be god damn. =x
*
Don't be so bad lar.. hahahaha! When he buy AP, lots of people say originals will be as cheap as what AP is selling (which may be wishful thinking). Then he sold AP hoping to buy an original, there goes originals COULD be more expensive. Hehehehe!

QUOTE(ipohfly @ Dec 23 2008, 12:36 PM)
Wow u sure of that? heard that the QC in china factories is quite bad wo?
*
Honestly, nobody is sure of anything. What we say here is basically our perception as a user/consumer. It is a collective of hearsay and user experience. If a factory has strict operating procedures and operations management, I'm sure the quality is where it should be. The factory can be anywhere, be it China or the lowest poorest parts of Asia. It tells nothing about the quality of the product it is manufacturing.

Eh? I thought youtube already upgraded to 16:9 ratio? Vids shot in 4:3 would get black bars flanking them.

Imagine 16:9 vids on the Tube's screen...  laugh.gif
*
Yes, youtube did upgraded their viewing object to support 16:9 ratio but most of the videos uploaded are still 4:3. So when you view 4:3 videos, a black will show to preserve the original aspect ratio while supporting newer uploaded videos that are 16:9.

On the Nokia 5800, it uses the mobile version of youtube. Videos are downloaded and played using Realplayer (if I am not mistaken). There are no aspect ratio preservation. Anyone know how to view youtube via its original website? I hope the Symbian community will release a Youtube App for 5800, just like the ones on HTC Touch Diamond/Pro and Omnia.

Apparently it is only a test log and not yet available in our usual sources for phone software update. Anyway shows that Nokia is already testing a new revision of the firmware. The 5800 is in need for a quick fix. Found quite a lot of the software erratas.

how do i update the firmware of my 5800?? using the OVI?
*
Well, there are already an integrated updater within the Nokia 5800 phone management itself. But there's nothing to update at the moment. Probably the system is not ready yet. This is firmware over the air which will be implemented for Nokia 5800 as well as the Nokia N96. It'll take sometime before the system runs.

Anyway there's a scheduled software update for the Nokia 5800 which is really soon. Unfortunately, the current Nokia Software Updater does not support the phone yet. I would say in the next few weeks.

Erm.. Got 1 question
compare with LG KC910 which one is better. Count the cam func out.. 8mp vs 3.15mp no need to said d.
*
I think Nokia 5800 has a better advantage since its Symbian and it'll get a lot of support from the community. However, it won't happen now since this is S60v5 and it'll take sometime before more applications are made available. But Nokia 5800 will be a better product in the long term.

The KC910 however is great out of the box. The UI is smooth and you get WIFI browsing. GPS function however limited to geo-tagging of photos. I don't see any popular navigation software coming to the phone at the moment, unless you think Google Maps are sufficient. Out of all these things, thats it. You probably can install J2ME/JAVA apps/games but thats all.

QUOTE(hellwaker @ Dec 25 2008, 11:57 PM)
is Nokia PC Suit working with 5800 and on Vista?
*
Nokia PC Suite is working out of the box. You can use PC Suite to backup your previous Nokia phone and then transfer to the 5800. I haven't check other parts of PC Suite but I think they do work. However, Nokia Software Update is not supported yet. But a new firmware is coming, so it'll be updated pretty soon.

Planning to buy this phone over n85, few questions first:

1.  Can browse video on dailymotion or other "tube" site or not? Smooth or not ?

2.  If install a lot of symbian software will it be lagging ?

*
Yes, youtube is working so I think other video streaming sites should work too. It is smooth but on youtube, you're only limited to mobile quality for faster buffering. So quality isn't there yet. I think there's a way to browse the PC desktop version of youtube.

Symbian software for S60v5 is very limited at the moment. You can install other S60 applications but compatibility isn't guaranteed so you need to do some trial and error. Some will work while others will make the phone crash which is natural.

QUOTE(bluegrass @ Dec 26 2008, 10:54 AM)
For those of you who are having the 'certificate expired' problem, you should consider doing a soft reset , i.e pressing *#7370# at the dialer.  please note that it will wipe out the data on the phone, i,e contacts, etc. The stuff on the memory card are ok.

I tried the above, and it worked.
*
I thought the 'certificate expired' can be fixed by rolling your clock/date by one year. For example we're now still in 2008, so rolling it back to 2006/2007 will cause the certificate to think it is still valid. After installation, you can restore the original date. I've been doing this and it has work all the time.

There has been reports that price is around RM14xx-15xx. Wait for the official launch which is only days ahead. By then, AP price will be more attractive.

Of course lah bcos even the AP kings are getting one stock per day...someone is controlling the stocks.....
*
Yeah, seems like they aren't interested in selling the phones because they have no idea where to price the phone. They know they can't sell it too high like 1 month ago cause the original ones are projected to sell RM1899-2xxx. Then again, the phone costs RM12xx from HK. Bring them over and sell at RM16xx or RM14xx isn't going to cut it. Sell too high, other AP cut price and undercut you. Sell too low, you risk not returning your investments. Its a tough ball.

Its ok bro. Just need to know if they have begin selling the screen protector. I would like to buy one to protect the screen. I am refraining from using the stylus because it scratches. Anyway it doesn't need the stylus because finger works for the first time. rclxms.gif

Well hate to said it. If the ori set is targeted about RM18XX n above i would go to the LG RENOIR. Don't want to said so much later kena scold by the 5800 fans.
*
No, its fine. If your preferences were imaging and video, I would recommend you LG Renoir too since Pixon M8800 and INNOV8 is very pricey. The LG Renoir is head and shoulders with them. At that price, its a no brainer. However, if you looking outside of all these and want a well-bodied product, the Nokia 5800 is something to consider too.

But its just not there at the moment because of current firmware problems (which should be ironed out shortly). The imaging and videos are super sucks because noise filtering and post processing isn't working (I suspect). Probably because it is a non-N series phone. Lets just see how it turns up.

Probably the bitrate and fps not suitable? Also you have to convert to the exact same resolution of the 5800 (I suspect).

An empathic YES, the camera module sucks ass... Noise is off the chart, even if the plastic cover is to blame for the dull, unsaturated colours... Maybe a firmware update or two will compensate for that, but as it is, the cam module is barely adequate... sweat.gif

My almost 2-year old, 2MP SE W810i does better in low light... sweat.gif

As I have a DSLR to compensate, I don't mind... But for those who want a good (if not great) shooter in their phones (and don't mind a less resolution screen, no touch and GREAT sound quality), run as fast as you can to the Samsung INNOV8... It's a GREAT phone! biggrin.gif

As for the LG Renoir, keep in mind that it runs on a Proprietary OS, which (MIGHT, I don't know) mean, less software to use later... If you don't plan to use more software later, consider the Renoir (or that OTHER Samsung 8MP shooter touch phone)... icon_rolleyes.gif

A custom tuned OS that ONLY runs what it needs to WILL ALWAYS be faster and more stable then an OS that is designed to do everything and clean the kitchen sink (in this case, S60 5thED)... biggrin.gif

As for me, I'm still waiting... Need the touch, need S60, the reso, can live with the above average SQ and don't need the cam for anything more then Contact Pics and MMSes... biggrin.gif
*
Yes, real ugly noise characteristics. Actually don't know if anyone noticed. If you own an N95 before, you'll see in the view finder that the noise is just as bad. But once you capture the photo, it will go through processing. Once that is done, the quality is so nice. Which made me believe there's a post processing stage just like any other camera.

The fact that the 5800 is so bad can be attributed that the post processing not working due to firmware issues. Well, I don't know if Nokia purposely made it such a way because it is a non-N series phone, but I really doubt. Even Nokia's old XpressMusic phones can do better.

QUOTE(MK84 @ Dec 27 2008, 12:34 AM)
Some shops should have the screen protector already. Saw the brand, it's Skool or Skol or something like that.

OR toned down... Hey, non N-phone or not, this thing has the possibility of becoming ahuge seller W/O cannnablizing sales of anything above it... It's just 3.2MPs for gods sakes (in a world filled to the brim with 5MP shooters), give it the dignity of some good picture Post Proc Nokia... sweat.gif
*
Yeah it will be a huge seller even thought the camera quality is not that great. But actually resolution won't tell how good the quality is. We've seen 2MP cameras with good output quality. So I would like Nokia at least do away with the noise while maintaining the somewhat inaccurate color rendition just because it is not N-series like many people decided to point out.

that'll be nice.. protects the camera lens cover from scratch...

same like n95 8gb...they should include a cover too..
*
Thats something to expect on the N97. biggrin.gif The cover is something like the N85.

Yeah, the N95 8GB should have included a cover but it was a trade off Nokia has to make in order to fit in a larger battery. Anyway the N95's cover isn't that nice. I think the N85's slide up/down cover is better.

Congratulations to the new owners of Nokia 5800! It great that the price is right and the firmware being the latest one. Be sure to go to Lowyat to get the screen protector! Get the 'Skool' brand since they are the only one that fits.

i think i bought de most expensive 5800. some more ap set...but nvm la...haha

I was in lowyat this morning and they have began to sell authorized sets of Nokia 5800. The Nokia Concept Store sold at RM1899 while the rest of the stores sold at RM1499 and can be knocked down to RM1399 relatively easy. According to the seller, they want to fight off those AP by selling at the same price point.

Some sellers have resort to maintaining their AP price of RM14xx but bundled in freebies like bluetooth speaker, bluetooth headset and additional memory cards.
