Hello,I know this is a long shot, but I just began playing (more like began toughing) keyboard about two weeks ago. I cannot read musical sheets, and just play according to muscular memory and Youtube instructions. Until now, I have been able to play Gymnopedie No 2, a simplified version of Canon, Dearly Beloved (Kingdom Hearts) and Night Time (Mr Magorium Wonder Emporium).

Just wondering, do you think I should learn this piece and perform it as a background music in about four days? Everyone kept on saying since I just began touching an instrument I should not... But I think why shouldn't I?

er, una corda is the soft pedal, i'm just a bit worried coz i excused myself when my piano wasn't tuned, keys were too soft to play effective dynamics, so i used it to get the sound i wanted, now that my piano's tuned, i've had to review my use of una corda, might be losing my control for soft dynamics sad.gif   or maybe lousy piano =P

as for sustaining pedal, yea i agree it takes experience to be able to tell when to use it, i was playing back my old grade 8 pieces, they certainly didn't ask to use it throughout the piece, so i didn't during exam, sounds horrible now i when i try without sustain. now sustain pedal it indispensable to me, which might be a problem too.

when i saw some pros using the sustain pedal (albeit sporadically) for a bach prelude/fugue, i was like  shocking.gif

Sorry. I skim through your post too fast. Left out the word smile.gif

Anyway, if there is the direction, you should use it. Same with sustain pedal. You can add it too if there is no una corda direction. Still the same thing. Listen, try out and the most important thing is experience.

Actually, you should not excused yourself when your piano wasn't tuned ( I don't know how lousy is your piano as you said. Anyway, it is just your wild guess or maybe it is really lousy smile.gif ) Maybe that is the reason you are facing problem to control dynamics. A pianist should learn how to adapt himself or herself to different kind of piano and surrounding. Different pianos have different touch and so on. Different place makes a piano sounds differently.

Single finger chord?? Those CASIO/YAMAHA cord where with their own system of chording?? I suggest u go straight for real chords. Real chords are not that difficult and if u are used to these single finger thingy, later you'll be spoilt and hard to unlearned what u learnt.
