Gf = Girlfren
Soulmate = Wife

Your wife is who u choose to spend ur life with (disregard her looks).
Your gf is who u go out with (pretty & young most of the time)

So there u go LoL....
Don't take this seriously tho.... it's a bad guy's joke tongue.gif

As mentioned before, it's mainly which language is used. I'm probably one of the few true bananas (Can't speak, read, or write any chinese). I have to dumb down my spoken english a bit just so that Chinese ed friends can understand me

firstly, i'm english ed, but ever since i entered local university, i've spoken more Chinese than English on a daily basis....i can't agree with you... i have chinese ad friends who could talk NON-STOP.... and not at all shy!! i wonder where the stereotype comes from.. english ed people used complex english as chinese ed uses complex chinese language.. and i have chinese ed friends who cursed in a day more than i do in my entire lifetime! so ya, i think it's very individual.... but basically, for me,... bad english is a TOTAL turn off.... and it sucks when we dont share the same sense of humour.... and i love poety like a lot... then again, it's individual.... i am sure others would find my bad chinese terrible too... so ya... it's a fair game....

I hate to be called banana... i find it an excuse to segregrate people, even judge.... why are there terms like banana and coconut?? and what do you call chinese ed ppl then? orange or pineapple?? please stop calling eng ad ppl banana... my chinese friends would stare at me like an alien, and in comment: 'So, you are banana ka?'
... oh puh-lizzz.......... and i never judge your poor english....

I am just like you...termed "Banana" because I was English educated and can't read and write Chinese. However, I my spoken chinese can be better than my friends'. Hey, Chinese is Chinese...who in the world give them the right to call those who are English educated "banana"? Why are you mocking your own race when the West is already mocking you?
I for one am sick of people who are aping the west (English or Chinese educated). Be proud of your own culture, like it or hate it, that's you! People who are not appreciative of their culture does not have an identity. At the same time, those of you who are die hard chinese educated...Please open mine to absorb more ideas. Tailor what you absorbed and only assimilate the good points...That will make you a better person. I rest my case
Eng ed or Chinese ed...we come from the same root...it is certainly the mentallity is different. I can't help but agree, English educated girls will be more priviliged in the knowledge faculty if they choose to read more...there are more self-help books which can increase your knowledge.
Through experience, Chinese educated guys will not be able to tolerate girls who are more knowledgeable than them. They somehow prefer "Damsel in distress"! Well that's only from experience.

95% of chinese jokes comprises of chinese proverbs and the chinese language itself.
I don't laugh at chinese jokes.... it's soo corny.

I don't know about you guys, but I've read and been following the topic of Chinese ed vs English ed gfand have found it very interesting. Then there was another topic back awhile ago about whether language was a barrier between the mediums, etc etc but I can't remember the links (neither did I bookmark them)

To summarize...

Chinese ed stereotype:
-Quiet (and usually studious)
-Not much to say to guys outside the topic of studies or other mundane stuff and very short responses (ie, "how was your day?" -> "fine")
-Need to be straightforward and direct when speaking to them
-Shy

English ed stereotype:
-Talkative (as in easy to have a conversation with)
-Open minded and actions (although sometimes bordering what people call 'slutty')
-Tend to comprehend complex english - like sacarsm, poem hidden meanings, etc
-Okay with using curse words more frequently than their CE counterpart (girls)

Also, I notice that in a situation where a guy who likes a chinese-ed girl confesses to her, but she doesn't like him back, the girl will then tend to try to avoid and ignore that guy as much as possible. In the case of an english-ed girl, the guy and her would most likely just remain friends even if she doesn't share his feelings. Chinese-ed girls also would not be caught dead walking as a pair, side-by-side with another guy unless they are official already (bf-gf) while english-ed girls seem to be okay walking like that with their normal guy friends and classmates

It's even more difficult when you're trying to "cross-attract", like english-ed guy going for chinese-ed girl and vice versa. English-ed guy would probably be too talkative for the chinese-ed girl and the chinese ed guy would probably be too boring for the english-ed girl.

Before somebody starts flaming or shouting troll (hopefully not), remember I'm talking about stereotypes, hard-core. I'm not talking about those 'diluted' chinese ed or english ed who have mixed with the other type until the point where they have become 'less chinese ed' or 'less english ed'

So what does a guy got to do to attract a girl of the opposite education medium? Like how can an english-ed guy try to get a chinese-ed girl when she doesn't really talk that much and is not that responsive (see short response under chinese-ed stereotype above)?

Note/disclaimer:
When somebody starts a topic like this in Cupid's Corner, they are ""new"" to the forum for obvious reasons  brows.gif

English speaking dudes are largely, Westernised, hence the more extroverted personality. In general, I don't think it's a stereotype at all. I do think it's a fact to some extent. When I was in Uni, Chinese Ed students were really quiet. I know because I was in a group with these students and I presented assignments to the classroom ALL the time, even when I was in Australia. When in OZ I noticed that chinese ed students only spoke when the lecturer spoke directly to them. Well things may have changed since, but it was the way I described it when I was in school/uni.

I am by and large, and English educated Chinese dude. Even my grandparents on both sides spoke English. I never did learn how to speak Cantonese until I was in secondary school. It is advantageous to be able to speak fluently in both languages. I now have friends who are both English and Chinese educated. I am impartial when it comes to a persons educational background but I must say I feel more comfortable with English educated lads as we share a similar mindset.

hmm... you mean like the girl you date would not be your wife?
pretty gal is your gf and any-look-gal is your wife?
you know what? you sounded to have great potential to have a caring wife and a pretty mistress, haha! no offence...

yeah,that was totally a guy's joke.....

i mean, i wouldn't agree to be in a relationship unless i see a future,..
not marriage la, that would be a little scary,.
what i mean is being together with someone you can share your life with...
not just bringing a decorative gal along...
but that's just me.. a gal's thoughts...
then again, there is a difference between social dating and being in a relationship....

p/s: i think that all girls can be pretty, if they make the effort, seriously..

but how do u define open minded and conservative? i think it's all very individual

If I may interject. Most comments are based on general observations. There will always be unique cases. It's just tiresome to have to begin every sentence with, "Generally speaking...". There is also often no smoke without fire. I think the term "general observation" would best suit this.

HOW many topics like these have we had? Sheesh.

oh and I read that someone said they wouldn't date a guy if they see no future ... but not talking about marriage. What the heck are you talking about? A future in a relationship = marriage.

Erm... both carry a different meaning?

"Assumption" - anything taken for granted; supposition
"Observation" - The act of noting, observing, or taking into account

One is based on a guess while the other is based on what you have seen or experienced.
