Dude,

This is wireless. There is no way you can reach 3.6Mbps. even if you are in singapore , at the most people can reach is like around 2.5Mbps , maybe 3Mbps at the most. There is no way you can reach 3.6Mbps. This is Wireless Broadband and your throughput is not constant. Maxis has clearly stated the speed is on best effort basis , plus we aren't using cable , so there are many factors that would cause this. You can complain to maxis or consumer tribunal if you want , but there is no point of doing so as this is the nature of wireless broadband tongue.gif

Nothing wrong with them advertising 3.6Mbps broadband but what misleads us is the fact that is unlimited. keep in mind its not unlimited , there is a 20GB cap for it. once you have reached it , your speed will be throttled to 256Kbps. So technically its not unlimited.

You are wrong , not all wireless are useless. IMO , maxis came up with this ingenuis idea because of the demand and they dont have enough bandwidth to deliver it. So , their technicians were being smart and say 'ey lets disabled p2p and some other applications so users can enjoy fast surfing speed and nobody would complain on this". Bam and they did it. Only maxis does this funny things. Celcom doesn't truly block p2p , and people are enjoying it. But now they are facing slow downs and things like that because celcom is overselling bandwidth. Dude , anyway welcome to Malaysia !

I am going to wait like 5more months , as I am not going to pay RM 200 early termination fee or as maxis calls it handling fees. There is nothing much you can do. soone or later you'll have to put up with it and live with it , just like what I am doing right now

Maxis blocks trackers and they know how p2p connection are established. xunlei doesnt even work on peak hours. It only works from 1 am to 6 am. Trust me. No other client works. last time xunlei used to work , but they managed to stop xunlei from working. it will connect to lots of peers , but you'll be downloading at 0.8Kilobytes/sec (the max it can go is 1 kilobytes/sec). Not recommended !

Has anyone upgraded before from the starter 384 package?? Is there really improvement at all?

No big changes. I am using 3.6Mbps and now they have capped me to 256kbps cause i've exceeded more then 20GB. Now you wouldn't feel it on a 384Kbps package !

It will be surely faster. I said let us make use of their network and let us use it to the max. Maxis caps p2p thats for sure. But they just cap the download speed , I can upload torrents just fine !

Here we go. Torrenting as we speak right now.

I am pretty happy with the speed tongue.gif. Keep in mind I am running Parallels on top of MacOS X. The clock is shown is wrong. It gets out of sync for an odd reason

Thanks. Now i've finally managed to bypass it without the need of VPN or any other funny stuff !.

They are throttling the ports. I've called them up and explained and yet no action. Please all i am asking from you guys is to e-mail them and tell them to unblock gaming ports during normal time as games don't really hog bandwidth

n406 , Please read the whole thread. It doesn't matter what package you use. Maxis does it in their side. So even if you use the el cheapo package or the expensive one its going to be the same

They block BitTorrent. no , i am fine with my maxis. Download speed is somewhat okay and its tolerable. They have capped me to 256kbps. So the maximum i can get is 32 Kilobytes/sec !

QUOTE(hapa @ May 25 2008, 12:42 AM)
Q1) I wanna noe something about Maxis ZTE Modem (MF600) RM98/month... is it possible make it like this?
ZTE modem --> wireless router --> lappys??

Q2) The Maxis WiFi Modem (E960) RM158/month is 3G modem + wireless router rite?? the price is much more expensive.. and if i can make it Q1, why still need the E960 Wifi modem? coz the Q1 package is much more cheaper(jz need hv a wireless router to make it same like Q2)

Q3) abit out of topic, is it possible to use lappy wireless adapter to act like some kind wireless router??
modem --> lappy --> lappy's wireless adapter ---> wifi phone or other lappy
(phone and lappy oso can connect to the internet at the same time)

sorry, noob in network stuffs... hope LYN xi fu can help me...

A1) Yeah its possible to hook up to a router. It will work just fine. No problem with that

A2) Yep , its a two-in-one. 3G Modem + Wireless router. Its ideal for people who don't want to configure things. just plug and play and you have your own hotspot. Plus it acts as a standalone modem to (and its way better then the bulky ZTE MF600). Yep its possible as well

A3) Yes you can create ad-hoc connection with your laptop to share your connection over WiFi. I wouldn't recommend you doing this

32KB/s max it can go. I think they have capped me. So as for me , I don't see a big deal in the speed. Anything or any stuff i do goes up to 32 kilobytes/sec !
