wanna ask, if i prefer to use digi bb than maxis bb, can i use maxis bb modem to connect?

anyway, just a casual observation tat i made the other day at maxis...

they are now offering free modem for 3 and 5 month subscription...

BUT THEN...ALL AROUND MALAYSIA, most of the maxis center tell u they outta stock..or the stock not yet come (dunno when come)=same effect as no stock lah...including the one in my area..tats y i take their 1 month package 1st..

so, wat's the point of having a promo when they dun have enuf modem to go around with?...its like saying "i have a lot of money, but rite now i dun have any money with me..."

juz some casual observation...anyway, the promotion is said to end today (30 Aopril2010)...let's see if suddenly they got stock onot...

no la...its staed as 30 April 2010 lah...maybe they will extend it due to such great respoinse... 
am subscribed to the youth lite package...Rm48 for 2GB data limit...

actually my intention is to take the 3 or 5 month package with free modem...but then they tell me no modem...i somehow felt cheated u know...

so i just say ok lah...i take ur youth lite package lah (Rm48 for 2Gb)...*i oredy own 2 modem..but then tamak lah,as usual*  

Damned,  the capped speed now is 100kbps. It is capped immediately after the data volume runs out.

100kbps is definitely the capped speed. Try this afternoon and get the same thing.



Do you get SMS for the data volume runs out?

I get 2 SMS.

1. You are nearing your subscribed package's volume quota. Your speed will be reduced once you reach the quota

2. You have reached your volume quota. Once you are directed to the portal, your speed will be reduced. Buy more data volume to enjoy uncapped speeds.

I don't get directed to portal thou cause am not using maxis modem.

100kbps per month. Sigh~ Lets hope they would not get any lower. If it does, definitely need to terminate already.

The network protocol used by Maxis BB in my area is WCDMA and not HSDPA. However, for Celcom and U-Mobile. It is HSDPA.

Anyone here gotten the HSDPA network coverage at your area? If so, what is the speed like?

For maxis BB, I can get 3.6Mbps during off peak hours before my speed get capped.. (my modem can't get higher than 3.6 cause it does not support HSPA+ 7.2 Mbps but it is ok. I would get capped anyway.)

I suppose , you might be able to get higher with WCDMA network too.

no digi 3g coverage here..

modem is ours lol..because we pay upfront money = modem cost...

I'm guessing that most who terminate either have poor coverage or heavy downloader/youtube user.....

From my personal experience, Maxis coverage is good. But the only downside is that their data limit is very very very low (unless you're a light surfer).

For me, I just do surfing to get kind of information that I want to have. Normally it based on text, picture, flash files and sometimes I did downloaded documents and watch online video streaming through youtube for example. So my everage data usage would be 50 to 60 Mb only. Yes for paying RM48.00 to use only 1.5Gb was not feel the value for money.. since maxisbb allow customers to keep surfing even in lower speed make the customers willing to keep support their business....

just something about to add about the block/throttle that maxis practiced.

iirc, around beginning of this year, maxis blocked everyone when the quota was reached and directed the user to a page that forced the user to buy their quota should they wish to continue surfing. before this, users were able to continue with lower speed after quota was reaced. they did not sufficiently notify the users and this blocking was applied to new and current users of the maxis bb.

interestingly, right before this blocking, maybe around end of 2009, they had a promotion of some sort which lured people in. i am just wondering if maxis would do the same thing again when this promotion ends and give us another 'surprise'.
