this is just my opinion, coz fusion kit, small size ..already got fast attack...so when used coated the overtone will be shorter. so ,rather than used coated better used double layer (totally based on personal opinion, reference from dave weckle kit and for rock sound)

standard kit..mostly rock configuration 12,14,16...sound slightly big, clear skin is great for live performance. from my survey, never saw rock/metal drummer used coated for metal/rock sound yet.
i dont know about the new age rock, maybe those experimental rock/metal used it.

travis barker... biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

for remo...go for clear pinstripe or clear emporer...and diplomat as reso head. (configuration for rock, this is my personal choice)
on what i have been told, remo has 2 type of skin..one made in taiwan(duplicate), one made in USA.
taiwan cheaper.

evans..the hydraulic is the most warmer and focus of all the model...less sustain/overtone.
but if u like this kind of sound go ahead dude. i think this should sound like slayer drum.
very boom/warm sound. try to get thinner reso head, so the open and bright sound can balance.

genera g2 coated and clear reso head...this is my choice for rock/pop/funk.

have u tried EC2? Its a double layered head with internal metal ring underneath the head. It will eliminates excessive overtones and ringing which normally suffered by lower end drums. It will made a cheap drums sounds expensive with the right tune!

but it quite pricey.. almost rm50 a piece. but its worth it...

wao, tempting...
EC2 coated anyone tried? its frosted finish, not fully coated....
wonder how the sound different from clear...
but someone said Clear is best on EC2...
need some review on coated also... coz im playing in a small small room only... biggrin.gif

btw... anyone uses evans EQ patches? clear, black nylon or AF ? are they really help adding durability and sound focus for the bass drum head?
how much they cost?

i like the hydraulics. but afraid that im going to regret it later. maybe ill have to try different skins before buying. hopefully kits on display are using different one tho. but still, they are on different shells. guess i still have to ask the salesperson questions before buying.

the issue i read on bon jovi drummer, used remo emporer coated with remo ambassador clear reso/bottom.(if im not mistaken)

yup, evans is really2 expensive. but really2 good

im now using evans hydraulic but i cant compare which is better coz this is my 1st kit. moreover im not sure my current tuning is the best or not, i believe it can be better. so far the sound is the best if to compare with kits in the studios ive patronised b4. btw,i wonder how much does the evan hyraulic cost?

ive noticed that the hyraulic skin makes the sound a bit lower tone than conventional single ply. pls correct me if im wrong;)

happy drumming!

EC series have single ply: EC1 and double ply: EC2. They have both coated (frosted) and clear head. They also have EC for snare head. So far i've only tried EC2 clear and never had chance to try out the new EC1 and i think its worth every penny.

got myself tompack for hydraulics. the 10 n 12 sounds good enough for me but the 14 is not so. maybe ill have to tune it better. went and tried ec2 too but its more expensive and i dont know why, but i like the sounding of hydraulics better.

you really cant tell how do they produce their drum sound because there are lots of factors that need to be taking in account.
First, its straight from album and it has been mixed and remastered to meet certain level. Second, the acoustic of their studio is also affects the sound that they captured. Third, for fast double pedal like that, it might be using drum triggers to get exactly the same sound each time.

but once record using mic, the sound totally different on what we heard while playing. sound like expensive drum...hahahahah. i think they used pro tool to mix it.
