Agree. Also, remember 'rotting' due to water over time, like those areas near bathroom.

i'm sure that all the cons that you guys mention is due to poor quality parquet. where the parquet been done by the developer and not professional. if proper wood and glue been used, parquet can last for quite long.

termite will only eat those softwood. If you really like parquet alot, be prepare to fork out a sum of money on it. Don't ever get those cheapo wood, those small rectangular parquet where you can see it in every of your friends house. get those hardwood, at least 1 feet long wood like teakwood, merbau, jati (aka. premium wood).

after selecting the wood, get a professional in this field to lay the parquet for you.

this is just 2 cents advice from me.. <peace>

there's one way to check which is quite troublesome.
It's the same way as checking on tiled floors.
You knock on the floor to hear the sound to detect hollow sounds. meaning to say it's not properly plastered.
One thing about parquet is when one starts to come off, it would create a ripple effect causing the rest to follow suit.

Btw, if the parquet was treated wood than you do not have to worry about termites. If you're not sure, you can engage a pest control company to help you get the floor treated.

Yup collapse or crumble, also if the parquet is near the bathroom sure will rotten or pop-out... even if you use good quality wood the lacquer will often seperate and peel.

If the parquet is damaged or rotten you can pop it out and replace... in my previous house I use to do it all the time... just use contact cement similar to super glue to attach the new pieces. You can get it at ACE Hardware or most other hardware shops.

That can be hard to tell since most of the wood is lacquered, unless you wanna korek and findout. PersonallyI dislike parquet... my previous house was rented so I can't do anything about.

Most of the parquet in my bedroom got badly scratched due to my study chair or moving furniture.

If you're renovating try to avoid parquet... too much trouble its better to get hardwood strips or tiles instead.
