QUOTE(t0p_man @ Mar 12 2008, 01:00 PM) As long as there is a sample of the colour, the powder suppliers (Dupont, Jotun, Akzo Nobel,Orica) may able to mix, but not 100% of course. can't get 100% matching. Even with the same colour code, the colour got slight difference in every batch. QUOTE(wajars @ Mar 12 2008, 01:02 PM) hmm..I enquired before, not that xpensive as everyone thinks..was quoted RM200+ for em..all 4 for 17 inches RM200 for 4? That's too cheap to be true. Spray maybe yes....

I was looking to powder coat my rims but realise that there are no one or no shops that does it in Malaysia.
Painted my rims with Heap Soon Segambut. Amazing job! No scratch or colour fade after 8 months now.
They sandblast your old paint, repaint and heat it in the oven. 4 x 18inch for 430 bucks.
Very good workmanship. My rims are BBS and trust them fully to do the repaint.

QUOTE(wajars @ Mar 12 2008, 01:02 PM) hmm..I enquired before, not that xpensive as everyone thinks..was quoted RM200+ for em..all 4 for 17 inches Rm200 is quite impossible if using high quality industrial type outdoor grade powder. Minimum 20kg of powder per box is about RM300.00. Then need to go through pretreament, labour, gas & water charges about RM300.00 for 2 hours estimated spraying time. Profit is 50% of the total cost. So, about 1.2K, unless you know insiders.

after consult my dad...he say RM1.2k is consider standard price...like wut tOp_man said..1 bag of powder (Jotun) will cost around 200plus...4 pcs or sport rim need around 1 n half bag...then there is alot of work to do before coating...need to remove the original paint out first...then sandblast it...there is a lot of process in between so RM1.2k is consider ok...

200 for 4pcs? i think you got quoted for respraying. i suggest you do what nonexno did. repainting in oven. since they sandblast the old paint out, it will look brand new after the process. 430 pretty is cheap for 4pcs 18".
nonexno, any pics of the repainted wheels? hmm, BBS 18"? i suppose you're driving a bimmer?

Can't afford no powerful bimmer man. Don't go for 200 bucks paint job. The paint will start to peel after awhile.

Getting Started

for wheels i doubt anything less than rm800-1.2K
some used wheels may/might need rebalace/perparing the dented surface (unless its pefect circular)
for lesser, they might not preprep the wheels & then u might end up with a difficult wheel/tyre to balance later.
also i'm not sure of how much more weight the powder coat might add to each wheel if the outer surface is not completely removed which is why i suspect its why not many shops are willing to do it. (work to prep, treat, powder coat), its probably far easier to spray. i know most shops does this, but at least they prep the wheels

Btw guys, powder coating on rims will add weight one..
I read one article saying it add about 400 grams of weight onto a 8 kg rim, after coat will be 8.4kg.
so 4 rims will add about 1.6kg already. think carefully.

I have a feeling that it is different when you tight up a 20kg weight on each rims and fetching a 80kg guy onboard.
