Hi there, Anyone know where can I powder coat my Rims? How bout the price? I've heard and ask around but most of the shops just use the normal spray paints.. I'm sure these paints will deteriorate very fast and it will become damn ugly I've read somewhere that powder coating can last very long and will not deteriorate easily like paints.. Though, I really like the Civic 2.0 17inch stock rims..But I dislike the dim gray color of it..Makes the car looks damn lifeless So I thought I could change it to white or something better.. Any help or guidance would be appreciated. This post has been edited by awyongcarl: Mar 11 2008, 10:40 PM

Try going to paint shop, They will help you alot, as i know, powder coating is is a type of dry coating, which is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. The main difference between a conventional liquid paint and a powder coating is that the powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in a liquid suspension form. The coating is typically applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a "skin." The powder may be a thermoplastic or a thermoset polymer. It is usually used to create a hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint.

By the way, can you tell me the the price for 4 rims roughly? Need to calculate my budget Actually I asked some tyre shops that sell rims, they only can use the normal spray paints which I don't want

just to let u know, powder coating is quite expensive..info: just to powder coat cylinder head cover cost RM300-400...n just wanna ask why u wanna powder coat ur rims? powder coat normally people do to cover parts from heat..but for rims i dont think powder coat will give nice color or any advantage..

hey...my dad company is doing all this powder coating thing...1 think i can tell u is tht powder coating is damm expensive...but the finishing is worthy coz powder coating(not all) on your rim can make ur rim become scratch proof...coz i try bfore using a knife n scratch it but there is no any scratch at all....

Mind asking your dad what it would cost to powder coat a set of 15" x 7" rims? I've been looking high and low for the service, but to know avail. The ones I actually got in touch with only do it in bulk I think I opened a similar thread before

there is few powder coating, I used epoxy power coating for laboratory stuff. But bare in mind, there are few type, normal one esp white will turn into yellow if put under the sun for long time. I think there is some type specially for out door one. You must check with them 1st. The powder is not too expensive, but the workmanship will be expensive since you only be spraying 4 rims. They need to set up, clean up the sprayer, remove the previous colour, put in your powder....etc. AFAIK, the powder only sell in bulk only.

I'm in charge in powdercoating in one of the manufacturing company in Selangor.
Usually, we do powdercoat in large volume for wiremesh, steel, aluminium. Since it is only 4 pcs of rims, expect a minimum of RM1200.00.
Also, I do know whether alloy rim is suitable or not to powdercoat, as the oven temperature is about 220 Celcius.

As long as there is a sample of the colour, the powder suppliers (Dupont, Jotun, Akzo Nobel,Orica) may able to mix, but not 100% of course.
