If staying at Tanjung Tokong, will I be far from all the good food of Penang?

As also mentioned there's always grab. But from tanjung tokong to town easily rm10 one way.

Hi, im going to penang this 9-11 oct. Any recommendation on places in georgetown to stay for 2 pax? Budget is around rm500 two days.

Are you going to be in hotel longer than outdoors?

QUOTE(lowlowc @ Oct 2 2018, 03:05 PM)
Oh.. then I think I will stay on in the center of Georgetown. Thanks.

I have only been to Ferringhi once and I remember it's hard to find a parking. Is it still hard to find a parking lot?

If I am to do an evening in Ferringhi, how should I do it? I mean, it's a big place so... :

1. Which is the better part to stroll around?
2. From where can I access the beach, the hotels seem to get them covered from the main road.
3. Will taking a bus easier?
4. Should I drop in one of the seafood restaurant? Which are the recommended and reasonably priced? (Just a video of baked crab by vlogger about Beach Corner.) Or I should just head back other area - like Sea Pearl Lagoon as recommended earlier?

I have been to Georgetown many times, still haven't explore a large part of Penang.
*
1.Nothing to do basically, it's just full of bars/arab restaurant/expensive night market. If you want to go, go in afternoon for the beach or thr sunset. Be rekinded Saturday starting 4pm it will be full of traffic.
2. There's a few entrances to the beach, even before reaching feringhhi, there are beaches.
3.Easier but consume time.
4.Depending on your budget, there's quite a choice but I'm not able to advise properly.

Possible to go to Penang via KTM/ETS? But I think even if can, won't have direct train go to the island, right?

No direct train to island but the KTM station is very near to the ferry. Just a stone throw away

Possible, but until Butterworth. Then you can take ferry to island. Per person roughly rm1 rm2 only.

Hameed soup is yes yes! I always go there every time I am in Penang.

Skip the Char Koay Teow at Jalan Selamat (auntie with red hat). I saw a Singaporean vlog praising this one as the best in Penang. So we went there on yesterday. Puahhh... expensive and tasted salty. We had better ones (and cheaper) elsewhere in Penang.

I have to say the standard of this shop has dropped dramatically over the years. Was there a couple of days ago and the shop is in a really bad condition. Asked for mutton soup and got what looked suspiciously like beef instead although the waiter insisted it was mutton. Bread served was also cold and tasted bad. A real pity as this used to always be a stopping point whenever I was in Penang. Hope that the management can really look into this to make this place good again.

On another note, just as an information to future Penang visitors, I just learned that you have to pay for parking on public roads even on Saturdays and Sundays! Please take note or you'll get a summon like I did biggrin.gif
Even worse, I was leaving Penang on a Saturday and there was no place open where I can pay for it...
