@pigduck,
Since Apple announced the new updates (using Penryn processor) the current available MBs are going off at a discounted price [and quite a heavy discount too!] so do check with the outlets before U go ahead and get suckered into purchasing something that's 'used' and uhm... well, pricey! biggrin.gif

I think the price is ok, coz the white will always be run out of stock. Coz they more concentrate to sell the new macbook. Even if u buy this 2nd its still consider new coz the age is only 2 weeks old and u save RM300. My 2cent. tongue.gif

Sadly i'm looking for Macbook Pro. If not I'll be taking it.

The ownership is transferrable. Furthermore you need to register it if you want to get AppleCare support.

Agree. You are for more discount, other people will grap it. As long as its a fair deal people will do biz with you. My experience is, the are many people in the look out for good buy, sometimes cannot be too choosy. As long as it suites your budget and value for money for you. What others opinion may not be right.

Its like stock market, you want to buy low, but usually too late to act.

@pigduck,
Of course ownership is transferable. All u need to do is just contact them and change the name, and if u don't like the name that he's put on the Mac HD, just do a total reformat/reinstall and voila... brand new smile.gif

I suppose if it's in good condition, 3.7k is oK kua - as a forumer mentioned, it's really up to how much u want to spend and what u think is worth. If u like it, just get it if it's within ur price range smile.gif

@chrono_breaks,
I read earlier on a thread a forumer (tishaban) ordered his MBP last night cause he found the price toOOo hard to resist smile.gif See if U can find that thread (am afraid i can't help u there - need to go off to bed oredi) otherwise just send a PM to tishaban smile.gif

tink, chrono_breaks, I bought my MBP in the US, not in Malaysia. US$1536 after rebate. I'm not sure where you can get that kind of pricing in Malaysia...

pigduck, you can write to Apple etc. to get the ownership transferred. It's in the fine print in the manual/AppleCare legal page that none of us ever read. biggrin.gif My experience with AppleCare though is that they only check the serial number, nothing else.

Also, this is true for other manufacturers as well, my own personal experience is with HP. Ownership of a piece of hardware is never permanently owned by the buyer only.

oOpSs.. oKies dokieSs.. I'm definitely gonna have a date with that new baby of urs when it gets here wink.gif

@pigduck,
U shouldn't blame ur folks for not wanting to get u a Mac - most people (at least from my perception) is thinking of getting a Mac only because it makes them look cool and that's really not a good enough reason to convince the folks to get it for u, IMHO.

Here's my Mac buying steps:
1) Look at my requirement.
2) List down which Mac meet the requirement
3) Get my max budget allowed
4) Minus 10% out from budget
5) Get the best Mac (from step #2) that fit in my budget (step #4)
6) Check the Mac cycle date
7) Check for stock
8) Make the purchase

Reason for #4 is to have some extra for accessories and add-on.
Reason for #6 is to makesure no new model coming next week.

After purchase, stop winding about newer model, cheaper price or what so ever. There's always a better deal and better mac coming. One should live up and get the best from what they already have. Not wasting time on what they don't have.

@pigduck,
Er... Ur family thinks the Mac's an expensive TOY?! Er.. well, I think it is too. Can't believe some people actually see a personal notebook as a TOY!

Also, I thought most people preferred 'foreign' - am surprised to hear they think foreign's no good? *shrugs* Do U all drive Proton and Perodua cars only?! tongue.gif

@wei,
*high5*

I so TOTALLY agree with U. I haven't been keeping up with the Mac updates; AFAIK I'm satisfied with my baby here and that's what counts.. plus it helps get the work done ! smile.gif

Check here: www.apple-history.com look at the date of release & date of replacement at the bottom part of each model.

Have a brief comparison on how often & when the Mac model get revision/update.
Let's say an iPod get update every 6-9months for the past 2 years. Macbook is around 6months +-. There's a definitive pattern of how Apple revise their product. That's what I'm referring to Mac cycle.

If you know that the Mac Model was released 6months ago, it's very likely to get update very soon. So it's not wise to buy during that time. But currently most Mac model are up to date except iMac & Mac Mini.

@pigduck,
oOooOh... hence Ur facing the issue of 'migration' into something new? Well, it's just comfort zone but frankly speaking, it's seriously NOT difficult to use a Mac; I probably had the same considerations as ur folks before I switched to this MBP - check out the stuff I was worried about before the switch - Windows to MAC - Should I?, Seeking opinion & counsel

And... Good luck in convincing the folks smile.gif

Yup, definitely good to check product cycles before committing to a purchase, at least you'd know that you're making an informed decision. The website I always refer to and consider very good is http://www.macrumors.com/buyersguide/. They provide a graphical representation of product releases, and give recommendations based on the average life cycle of past releases. Links to articles (both confirmed & rumors) relevant to the products listed are provided as well.

That only for the past years.

My speculation tells me that this year macbook/macbook pro will be 3 months+ get revision/update. Remember, Intel now is "pushing" Apple too roughly tongue.gif rolleyes.gif

Let me share my experience about my buying process of a Macbook.

First and foremost, I wanted something small and mobile, 15" is too big and too heavy for me, and plus, not exactly a gamer, so 15"? Out.

My choices, Dell XPS M1330 or Macbook. And to be honest, Macbook was never my choice before and I almost took the XPS because of one main misconception that fools almost every living objects in this world, even Mac users, however, that is only true to a certain extent. One fine day, when I was walking around One Utama, Apple Centre(formerly known as Mac Asia) attracted my attention, anyhow, I can't hide the fact that I've always been a Mac lover. A helpful Salesperson came up to me and introduce me their products. I played a bit with their Macbooks and honestly, I found it quite hard to toy with it, but nevertheless, it makes me want to get hold of them more. I wasn't aware of their price tag at first because they weren't in my list of purchase, but after grabbing the brochures, I was shocked to find that it costs about the same as an XPS M1330! The baseline model I mean.

The specs are almost the same, if not better, but only in my opinion because of the OS as well as the design and not to mention the 4MB L2 Cache that is offered instead of 2MB. I don't need a dedicated GPU, I don't need a large HDD, I can top up the RAMs with just a couple of hundred bucks, I don't need a superdrive, and 2.0GHz core 2 duo is more than sufficient for my needs.

For the amount that I've spent, honestly, I've never been happier. The best COMPUTER that I've owned. Not Laptop.

Just sharing my experience anyway, if your parents still think that Apple is expensive...
