@IODATA,
As I've mentioned in my other post, it really depends on whether you're lucky or not. We've had people in the past bringing in as many as 5 sets.

hi..i just bought iphone 3gs from ebay last week...sadly, i dont know we need to pay tax+AP from sirim..it is my fault because i dont make a deep research before i bid at ebay...now i'm tracking my phone at USPS.

so i want to ask whether i can go to sirim directly first before i go to Custom? What documents that i need to apply the AP? I believe my phone will stuck at Custom...but now i live at KK sabah..hope i can settle all the process in my place here and get my phone.

and one more thing, the total cost that i need to get the iphone is more than the Maxis iphone! cry.gif

i believe that the standard procedure is paying up the necessary taxes and SIRIM approval fees (rm300 for the SIRIM bit if my memory serves me right)

boy, i sure do hope that your iPhone 3G S from eBay is at least unlocked... if not, you may have to hear the congratulatory "kong hei fatt choi" wishes a bit earlier than scheduled...

I do hope is an unlock i3GS unit too. If you purchased a Locked unit, i'm afraid you'll have a hard time clouding your way when it comes to firmware upgrades.

That's why time and time again, we highly encourage buyers to read and find loads of information before proceeding in buying an expensive gadget like iPhone.

Anyway, let us know what's the outcome of your experience with Sirim and the charges imposed.

Cheers

the seller noticed me that the iphone is already unlocked and can use any simcard around the world..hope he was right.

yeah..It is my fault. Actually, that is my first time at ebay. i tried my luck to bid at ebay when i found the price of the iphone 3gs at lowyat forum and lelong around RM3k++. So i thought i can save hundreds. And i just found the threads about custom, AP and bla bla after i completed my transaction at paypal. Ironically, i also did not realized that maxis will launch iphone 3gs on 15th july. cry.gif .i juz bought through ebay on 13th july.
but it is okey to me since i already make a payment to the seller. But now, with tax+sirim approval, i need to get one more shock.huh!.so just waste a warranty and the total cost.

so, after this no more ebay for me. better go to local e-trade as i did before. icon_rolleyes.gif

i hope i will receive a letter or call from them next week to collect the phone. rclxub.gif

Hi,

Thanks for replying.

Status: Out of Foreign Customs

Your item cleared customs in MALAYSIA at 3:11 PM on April 4, 2008. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

This is what the message i saw on the current page of the tracking.

So is it really cleared?

Thanks.

I wasn't so lucky. Bought an iPhone 3G from ebay. Waited one week and then got notice from pos malaysia it was detained at customs. I had 3 choices, 1) Self collection(Go SIRIM, get AP, go KLIA, clear it) 2) Get Pos Malaysia to clear it for you for RM50 (Still need AP from SIRIM, fax the document over, they clear it and you collect it from pos office, unless you pay extra then they ship to your house) 3) Assign someone else. I went to SIRIM, and they said it was RM200 for the AP, and they also said no need send it back if for personal use, the warning letter is computer generated. Then waited 1 week for pos malaysia to send a notice and went to the pos office to collect. Even if it was declared gift, the description was cell phone cry.gif. Paid RM1100 for the phone, RM200 for AP, RM150 for tax+pos malaysia's fee.

@kukarchoon,
First I've no idea Y U wanna buy something that's not working but that's not the point of this reply, right?! tongue.gif

I believe the same standards will apply whether or not ur bringing in a brand new phone, a 2nd hand phone or a faulty phone. Best is if U don't even declare it as a phone biggrin.gif

Thanks for reply smile.gif
Because faulty iphone is cheaper, and i can fix it by myself. I would like to ask seller to declare as" faulty MP3 player", dunno it will escape from customs tongue.gif

@kukarchoon,
Er.. am not sure if MP3 players taxable; if it is then U'll still have to go through customs; think of something that's not taxable; sorry not my forte so can't quite help.

i believe electronic products are taxable (first point)

and all electrical/electronic products have to be SIRIM approved; will cost you about RM300 if my memory serves right (second point)

not declaring it, will be futile as packages are scanned upon arrival and is dependent on your luck (third point)

Tat means handphone will never escape from tax/SIRIM, no matter it is faulty unit or how description declared?

I have experience tat i purchased more than 5 units of earphones from oversea before, and it arrived my house smoothly without any tax. tongue.gif
