Heyz there!

A week ago I asked for recommendations on laptops but no one replied. So I ventured in the recent PC fair to find out. Now I'm MORE confused with more choices. Lol.

I actually looking for a netbook. I have keeping in view with:

HP Mini 1000
Eee PC 1000h
Acer Aspire One

So far I think it is good in the sense that all of them suits my requirement well (lightweight, not so small text, good keyboard interface [except Eee PC's right shift button which is in odd position], included windows XP, sufficient USB port, etc). But any of these laptops have advantage over the other (other than price)? Or anyone has better recommandations in netbooks?

Thanks in advance ya!
*
Aspire One is 8.9" while the other 2 are 10"...

anyway, i prefer Aspire One... small monitor means smaller chasis, thus easier to carry around, while the font size are still decent, and it comes with 95% full keyboard, so easier to type...

Hello. Just want to make an enquiry.
Going to get the a new laptop soon and I was wondering what is the best available in the market. Maybe ill just be droooling because of the unattainable price but i would still like to know which is the best.
Thx

no budget can't recommend anything to you...

if u insist... i say Asus ROG series... G50/G70... easily over RM6k...

Hi people.. I need some help again.. I still havent buy any laptop, and I missed the PC Fair last weekend. Anyways, can you help me to decide, which one I should go for - Fujitsu L1010 or Sony VAIO CGN-CS16G.

Both have about the same specs (Core 2 Duo P8400,NVIDIA GeForce 9300M, 2GB RAM, just that Fujitsu's RAM is DDR3 while VAIO's DDR2, and Fujitsu has the fingerprint recognition tech while VAIO doesnt have any) and both have very nice appearance and most important is the price is just about the same. They still have the PC Fair promo though, so I think I might need to get it by this week. I saw at the brochure that Sony is giving away a lot of freebies (including a bluetooth mouse and a walkman), while Fujitsu is giving only 2 freebies- backpack and mouse. I am having a hard time thinking which one should I go for. The thing I wanted most is not the freebies. I'm more to the specs offered. So, Fujitsu or Sony people? HELP me!

Anyways, I have another question, is ASUS really that good? I mean, there's another ASUS with a very pretty design - F6V and various colours - F8Vr.
*
i would go for Sony...

i dun know wat's the exact spec, but i presume they are using PM45 chipset, meaning either 8GB of DDR2 or 2/4GB of DDR3 (can't remember)

if i were u, i would take Sony, and slap 8GB of DDR2 into it and forget abt the rest...

seriously, u won't feel any difference in performance since the FSB is one hell of a bottleneck... so in this case, the more GB the merrier...

and DDR3 is so much more expensive... last i check in SG here it's 8 times more expensive than DDR2 (DDR2 800MHz 2GB vs DDR3 1066MHz 2GB) and prices of DDR2 is still expected to drop in the next few mths also...

acer aspire ONE? why u recommend acer while in my head there are 4 main contender :

Priority list :
1. Samsung NC 10 (RM???, not available in Malaysia? why? do u know any lubang?)
2.MSI Wind U100/U120H (RM???)
3. Lenovo IdeaPad S10 (RM???)
4. Asus EEE PC 1000H (RM1700++)

i like Aspire One becuz it's 8.9", but resolution is still same as those 4 u mentioned (1024x600)... smaller monitor means smaller chasis, and thus less weight...

moreover with the latest spec upgrade (160GB HDD), it's really attractive, and with the price tag, yummy...

QUOTE(Scarletti @ Dec 23 2008, 06:26 PM)
Hey y'all,

I'm heading to the US in a couple of weeks, and I'm looking to get a laptop.

People have recommended I get an Asus or Compaq, though I seem to have a lot of friends who have Macs or Vaio's. I think my preference would be Asus though.

My budget is about RM3000 or so, but it's pretty flexible.

I'm not sure what kind of specifications, but I am gonna pursue a double degree in IT and Mass Comm. I use Adobe programs quite a bit, especially for designing. Also, I download programs and music quite a bit, and also some song recording now and then. I guess, one specification would be a web cam, as I'll want to communicate with my family and friends back here while I'm away. Also, I guess I'd have to pay attention to warranty details too =/

One more thing, a longer battery life is preferable, cause I'll be mobile/not near a socket most times on campus.

Size doesn't really matter, cept I'd prefer if 15" or so be the max. Lol.

So, if y'all help me out, that'd be great =) Even better if you could point me towards a place where I could find it (the laptop). Thanks. =D
*
for overseas usage, i ve always prefer Asus... their standard warranty is 2 yrs int'l...

i think the F8 series should fit wat u're looking for...

Hey astria,
Is compaq good? I mean.. Does it have loads of problems? I'd rather a notbook with less problems, lousy warranty compared to one with superb warranty but always breaks down. =X
*
i own an old Compaq laptop, almost 3 yrs, and i never send it to service center... so imo the quality is pretty good... afterall, it's part of HP...

but for me, as long as u take care of ur laptop, i dun see the need to take it to service center... (except for the Nvidia problem, of course)

Sorry i don't have any experience on netbook, is it possible to install any linux version(zenwalk or mint) and make it dual-boot with windows XP?

Compaq CQ40 looks tempting too for a price of RM1,800

1. Brand :: Any as long as its reliable and easy to obtain drivers.
2. Budget :: Nothing more than 4-5K
3. Specs :: Lots of RAM. Something long term, plan to use primarily for lots of virtualization, testing, messing around with software, downloading, light gaming (eg: DoTA, Unreal Tournament 2004, nothing super recent)
4. Size :: As light as possible. I move around alot.

I would greatly appreciate if someone could kindly provide some valuable advice for me. I am stuck in that, I am not sure if I should just wait for the new Intel processors or buy one now.. Any advice would help me out tremendously. Thanks again

try BenQ S42... GeForce 9600M GT, enough to satisfy ur gaming need... RM3.6k+

the extra money can get new RAM for urself (2x 4GB) and Vista x64...

wanna buy a laptop for sleek design. buy for gf.
1. Brand - i saw XPS and considering it now. Well any brand u recommend will do but not VAIO
2. Budget - around RM4000
3. Specs - gal like design and she loves programming a lot. so i advised her with M1330 with small and portable capabilities. small because easier for her to carry it along everyday.
4. Size - any but when i propose 13inch on M1330 she said larger better. Will i will finalize all when i get any idea from you guys here.

BTW

1. can i get any ideas on the graphics in between XPS M1330 and M1530?

2. shall i wait for XPS Studio? XPS studio also a performance lappy?

Thanks in advance. Look forward for any of sifus reply.

actually, for girls, u can consider Netbooks... quite a lot of girls in my school (Computing Science) get Netbooks for themselves... as long as the design do not involve graphic...

try BenQ JoyBook Lite, the design back of the LCD panel is filled with emoticons, i think girls would like it...

Brand : dell, compaq

Budget : not more than RM3k. RM2k ++

Size : umm...not sure bout dimensions, preferably light enough to bring around. college, wifi spots, etc

Spec : no lagging problems (use photoshop quite a bit), core 2 duo processor, longer batt life, less problematic, dvd burner, wifi, bluetooth, whatever else (i'm not good with specs)
oh and what's this i'm hearing about NVIDIA issue? please explain (:
open to any brands. can you guys list a few laptops? i'll check out the sites myself. just need some rough ideas. benq and asus i've been hearing about it, but not so much confidence in those brands. HP and lenovo has some good laptops i heard, but they're out of my budget right?

try Compaq CQ40 series, AMD Turion x2, Radeon HD 3450

or if u dun know/ dun like AMD, try Compaq CQ45, Core 2 Duo with GeForce 9300M i think...

CQ45 should get u slightly longer batt life compared to CQ40...

as for Nvidia problem, uncle Google will give u a lot of results... search for "Nvidia GPU problem"

hello guys, here's my short enquiry for laptop specs. It's for my parents to use, but i also share it for outdoor use at college.

1. Brand. - Any brand except Dell and Sony. (i have bad experiences with dell, and i know sony prices are cutthroat)
2. Budget. - RM2k min. RM2.3k max.
3. Specs. - anything suitable for work, a little photoshop, net surfing, medium gaming (at least able to play left 4 dead at minimum specs)
4. Size. - Any size

Sorry if my spec requirement sounds weird. thank you in advance for help! (:

EDIT:: about specs, I prefer windows XP support, but i just want to ask, if the laptop can only support vista, is it good choice to go for vista-only anyway? because windows 7 will be out next year, i scared will be outdated. i'm noob about this things, sorry if i assume wrong. (:

Waaa..... Happy New Year!!! hehehe....

Wonder what it means for my new year when one of the first things i do in 2009 is come to LYN!

Hope can get some assist... Looking for a notebook for my mom with the following criteria:

1) size - not more than 13" (very important!!)
2) Processor speed - highest specs in the market (I think there is a new processor called quad something?)
3) RAM - highest possible specs in the market
4) energy saving features -  long long long  battery life
5 Cost - RM2 - 3K
6) excellent after sales support
7) disk space not really an issue as have own portable drive

For this, not considering a netbook, since the atom processor apparantly won't be fast enough. Notebook must be very travel friendly, but can support multiple programs, and can also support heavy-duty movie editing.

I think the best way to describe this would be a notebook which is like a netbook on steroids!    flex.gif

Thankz... and Happy happy new year 2009!

bro, i suggest u either adjust ur budget or ur expectation...

u want powerful but small laptop with long batt life but without spending much...

CPU highest is Core 2 Extreme QX9300... it's a quad core, but this CPU alone already cost more than US$1k...

if ur movie editing program support CUDA, u can try Asus N10J, Atom with GeForce 9300M GS

or Compaq CQ45, which has C2D and GeForce 9300M GS, but it's a 14" laptop...

how abt BenQ S42??? C2D P8600 (SSE4.1), GeForce 9600M GT (CUDA), max 8GB DDR2, hybrid graphic with GMA 4500MHD for extended battery life (approx. 4hrs, long for C2D, short compared to Atom), but it's a 14" and cost RM3.7k
