Hey people...I'm plannin to buy a Dell Inspiron 1420 with these specs. They fit my budget just right. I just need some advice about the choice of specs I have chosen. I plan to do some photoshop, video/sound editing and producing, some moderate gaming(yesteryear games and new and upcoming games at lower settings,i dont mind) and of course the usual basics(email, surfing and documents).

Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T7250
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium - with AERO experience
2GB (2 X 1024MB) 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
120GB SATA Hard Drive
Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Combination Drive with dual layer write capabilities
NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS with 128MB GDDR3 dedicated graphic memory

The rest of the details were all default and unchanged so i figure dont need to put it all here. The question of gaming is subjective so I'd also like to know if my processor upgrade from the T5450 is worth the upgrade since I am going to do the above. And will this gpu last me for the next 2 years at least?

the processor is good enuf to handle all ur basic use . T8100 or new generation processor will be released soon for Inspiron line and why not wait for half a month . maybe on pc fair.

will the GPU last u for 2years ? no one can answer u . tis is up2 ur usage . my GMA 950 serve me well and using for almost 2years d. no gaming at all and can run vista well....

since ur processor is T7250 , i advice u take 4gb ram (2 x 2gb) to make it better. 2gb on vista is a minimum .simply open up mozilla and winamp will spend around 1gb ram d .

i need a Laptop

Budget: 3k - 3.5k

purpose(i'll arrange it according to priority of the pupose): i. web surfing, chatting
ii. assignment(college works)
iii. light gaming

Monitor size: prefer 15" wide, 14" wide also can, but must wide screen

Purchase date: not yet fixed, maybe will get it next week.

Preference: Accer, must intel C2D or AMD(gt dual core?), if i can get it within my budget then a Nvidia Go will be better for me

weight: 1k - 2.8kg is fine, coz this is the weight for a normal laptop.

Other features: i. DVD burner, coz i might need to backup my assignment.
ii. bluetooth, for easier file transfer between laptop from others as well as my phone laugh.gif
iii. HDD capacities about 120GB or above, 80GB also acceptable

size: medium, not too large, standard size for a 15" wide screen is acceptable.

i think that's all lar.

i hv some questions.

wat is firewire?

is intel C2D more power saving compare to AMD brand? (i means laptop lar)

I jz received my XPS few days ago...so I'm not sure whether this prob still persists in newer batch
the only prob i had is the power port on the notebook left side is kinda loose for me, as for the 2 USB ports on yr left is very tight...got once i even accidentally removed da power cord jz to use force to pull out my pendrive...

Are the conditions very serious which can put you into a difficult situation? Hopefully, they can be worked out.

Hi, been researching around for a laptop. I want most bang for buck in terms of performance and williamngwl recommend the ASUS M51 series.

I will make a final purchase only a few months from now if i go overseas (around june-august) or perhaps ride on the PCFair prices (April or is there PCFair again around june-august?) So any future updates on technology released around that time would be a factor.

I've pretty much narrowed down to the DELL XPS 1530 and now have taken in ASUS M51 series.
seeing that now the XPS have now included the new penryn processors T9500 like the Asus M51 series and the NVIDIA 9500 GS card that the Asus M51 has does not have much if any performance advantages in real life (forgot to add source sorry but did my research off google from "Asus M51sn" and found some forums)

So now... between XPS m1530 and ASUS M51 now which is more powerful ? (esp graphics & Proc wise) which is cheaper/better value? future potential/future proofing? (eg

Or is there another laptop i should consider ?

My budget is actually 5k but the AsusM51 that williamngwl quoted is about rm6k ? if 6k it's still a lil stretchable. But it would be great if it goes below 6k or even at 5k would be great.

A guy from the forums managed to get this specs for ASUS M51

- I would like that specs minus the blu-ray drive and i want the T9300 proc (2.5Ghz instead of the 2.6 from T9500), how much would that cost me ? (Ignore the free gifts+extras)
and with that spec vs XPS specs which is better (value and performance)

Thanks in advance ! do let me know your expert opinions =D

editL:: sorry forgot to add- should i consider the the toshiba Sli's too ? with the 5k-6k(6k being max max) budget
how do they fare in regards between XPS 1530 and Asus M51 for the specs like above ? Thanks again!

With the above specs;
What kind of gaming can i do?
How will it fare with new and upcoming games?
And is upgrading from T5450 to T7250 really worth it for those usage?

Why not upgrade to the new penryn processor like T8100, 8300 etc??
If u wan gaming...8600GT is recommended...unless u can get 8800 drool.gif

I don't have much info on the 9500M but I read it somewhere that it is exactly the same as the 8600M GT. the Extra 256MB of on board Ram wont do much since the card cannot fully utilize the Ram anyways.

For your situation, I'm assuming you are buying in Australia and I think they have return policies in Aust. If that is the case, get both and return the one that you wouldn't want. Otherwise, it's really personal preference. ASUS has great LCD panels, and Dell, I think it's the better CS and maybe for your budget, you can get the 3 year CC.

hi dude, i am newbie in laptop... would like find a laptop in which that:

Brand - Fujitsu preferred, Asus also can if Fujitsu doenst meet my requirement
Budget - around 3k, as cheap as possible (below 3k best)
Usage - normally use, but focus on high speed in loading and preloading of windows and application, surf net, music, video, light gaming.

ps: Intel C2D T5/T7 required, graphic not concerned, but best of GF8400 if available in price limit.

Thx for reply.(Do quote for my question b4 reply. thx)
