QUOTE(dinozilla @ Mar 21 2008, 04:39 PM) skeptical about defaultname365...hahah... in fact....look at the task manager shot Memory 2045 Cache 1825 Free 5 Which one is fake right now???? if u are using vista right now, open task manager, then u should see the similar things if u have superfetch enabled(its enabled by default). without it the Free memory would be larger.

QUOTE(defaultname365 @ Mar 21 2008, 11:52 AM) Note : The resource bar increases/decreases every second. But overall, I get less than 25% all the time. The memory usage plunges below 15% when system is idle for more than an hour. If I bring up my resource monitor, after leaving my system for a while : Are you the one of the few people who has their memory count jacked up like the one below?

Is it normal when ur pc is idle with only kaspersky running, the ram usage stays at 30%. I tried restarted, after restarting, ram usage also 30%, only running kaspersky. Btw, I'm using 2 x 1gig ram. Edit: And also, why did the sisoftware show that my ram is pc5200 ddr2-333? Is that normal? coz the ram i bought is ddr2-667.

Not too sure about that, but to get the lowest usage of memory/cpu resource, you must keep your computer idle for about an hour (disable screen saver too). At one point, you just hit "Print Screen" and voila... Before SP1, I always get upto 40% memory usage and both CPUs would be above 20% (sometimes jump higher). I am talking about when the computer is idle. And yes, I disabled System Restore, Superfetch and even a few Services.

From your Task Manager screenshot, you have 2GB of memory, and 1.9GB of it is used (proved from the Memory meter and also 90% Physical Memory utilization). That is a high usage of resources. Unless of course there is a cosmetic error in Task Manager.

Its just ridiculous as I put the computer in idle mode. I know the meter can jump every second or so, but still....

I know the meter can jump every second or so, but still.... This Vista gadget? It says you are using 1822MB out of 2045MB available. It did not contradict what the Task Manager says. The only problem here is why the meter indicator is so low even if 90% of your RAM is being used, which is why I asked whether your Vista SP1 System Properties shows the correct amount of RAM or not. Maybe you are the select few people who has their RAM count screwed up by SP1 upgrade. Below is what mine has with the same gadget. The meter shows correctly unlike yours.

Perhaps the Sidebar Gadget does not update the meter as fast as the numbers do. The Task Manager is a bit odd too, the meter indicator is low when memory usage is high. Anyways, my System Properties shows Memory (RAM) : 2.0 GB This is a more recent shot I took about an hour ago :
