QUOTE(haya @ Feb 16 2008, 08:59 PM) As far as I know, all student accounts have the same interest as normal account. The only thing about student accounts is you don't have to pay the monthly fee and most transaction fees. Besides, what sort of bank denies students a interest account?! Hmm sorry for sounding like a new student though I've been in Aussie for a year....As far as I'm concern, does ANZ bank student account has interest? I dont think there is as it is a free account...If want to have an account with interest, it would be the V2Plus account ( smthg like that, cant remember the exact name) which isn't free anymore.. that account has to have min $5000 inside to get the interest rate of %5.7 ( or 5.5%? )..Please do enlighten me on this matter. I can't believe I'm typing this. P/s: does interest gained from bank taxable for students? |

QUOTE(lordsharingan @ Feb 17 2008, 07:39 PM) Not that I know off. Interestingly, Australian customs have been quite lax in recent years, but no, pork floss doesn't get through (for me at least).QUOTE(coolgirl_y2k1 @ Feb 18 2008, 02:19 AM) Hmm sorry for sounding like a new student though I've been in Aussie for a year....As far as I'm concern, does ANZ bank student account has interest? ANZ is probably the worst bank in terms of fees. Every single damned thing they charge you if you aren't a student. On the bright side, you can't go anywhere without tripping over a ANZ ATM.P/s: does interest gained from bank taxable for students? The main account for ANZ is called a "ANZ Access Advantage". That has no interest, period, student or not. Their sub-account is called a "ANZ V2 PLUS" account, (http://www.anz.com/australia/persbnk/prdsrv/savings/v2Plus.asp) which yes, you need $5000 as a start. And their interest is only a sad 6%. I suppose this is the price you pay for having ATM's everywhere. CommBank offers better accounts; a Streamline and a Netsaver are the best combination. But if you don't mind running around a bit, or your daily routine gets you walking pass a certain banks ATM, then other banks like BoQ offer much better interest rates. Yes, interest gained from banks is taxable, but apply for a TFN and give it to your bank, and you'll be taxed less. |

My friend was asking the same thing recently via MSN. oh wait..i heard that no food is allowed anymore?? Don't think any meat products will be allowed, there's a sign at the Melb airport that says poultry, meat, and dairy products are prohibited. Check with the link at the first page to be sure. I've managed to bring in loads of dry food this time round... I think my supply of instant noodles and other dry food can feed me during a famine You might want to try though, as the customs are occasionally quite lenient. Nah.. if they stop you just throw it away, pork floss is just couple of ringgit; not like you're bringing in hundred dollars worth of it. |

If your assessable income is below $6k per FBT year, you don't pay tax and is eligible for a full refund if tax has been withheld from your income.P/s: does interest gained from bank taxable for students? If you do not have a TFN, the banks are required to withhold up to 45% of your interest earned as tax. Same if you're working without a TFN. |

Hello guys, long time no come this thread already
Anyways, my parents confirmed they can go to Australia now. The only thing right now is whether or not the Universities there will let me enter or not. Because I'm kinda like credit transfer over so I'm not sure about the possibilities. Is entering Australian universities hard? |

About hard or not to entering the uni, in my case during my diploma my cgpa is above 3.6 less than 3.7 and i applied for 5 uni s and i already get offer letter for 4 uni s. But my friend his cgpa is lower than 3 and he get into MU ( is it university of Melbourne? ) i was kinda .... speechless.
Another this is about hte credit transfer or Adv. Standing, i'm in IT and my friend in Architectures , he get 200+ credit points while i only get max of 72 poits and that if i go to wollongong. If i go to monash i only get 24 points. So.... he from 4 years shorten to 1 years and me ...4 years to 3.5 years. Oh well, .5 years for fun in Aus i gues My friend will fly there this Tuesday all best for luck for him ( first time he lived alone how does he feel hehe ) . After i get my scholarship i will fly there on mid 2008. This post has been edited by Sewerspeakers: Feb 19 2008, 02:03 AM |
