QUOTE(ckwei @ Feb 15 2008, 01:34 AM) i'll be heading down to sydney early sat, but will be free starting monday i suppose. any one wanna meet up for coffee or something? i have limited friends in sydney as most are rooted in melbourne and adelaide, and myself will be temporarily staying in randwick until i find a permanent place so i'd be pretty bored alone. pm me for those who are interested If you are a UNSW student,i think there is wifi in the Unilodge or something.btw, anyone knows where i can get free wifi in sydney? I think we could meet up when i reach there on next thursday. Then, maybe we can go and find a permanent place to stay.I also could get a place to stay while im in Malaysia. |

Just asking about the accommodation, since most of you have stayed in Aus longer than me.Heck,im only there for 2 days.
I found a place in Kingsford(those in sydney should know),on a street call Middle Street. It's less than 5 minutes walk to the uni and there are shops near by.The rent is $180 per week. There is a Chinese family with 2 sons that have migrated from China staying there. There will be charges on electricity and internet but she say the total rent wont exceed $200 per week. The deal is good, close to uni, decent rent, shops near by but there is something holding me back:Are these people trustable?Im kinda afraid that they will con or steal my stuff.Been hearing a lot of these people going to Aus to con people.Shall i take that place or continue looking for other place? Added on February 22, 2008, 5:50 pm QUOTE(december88 @ Feb 22 2008, 04:40 PM) sure can can, i bought 1 liter of shampoo in my luggage I bought like 2 big bottles of shampoo to Aus.They didnt check too, even my laptop. They are more concern of their environment than some prawn. QUOTE(limeuu @ Feb 22 2008, 05:54 PM) mainland chinese are tricky, and quite different from overseas chinese in msia and spore.........so yes you are right to be weary.......and i would continue to keep looking....... Has anyone or their friends been con or something by them?alternatively, just take it, at least for the 1st semester, and use the time to look for a better place........it might work out okay anyway....... That add has been up for about 10 days(since 13 of Feb) on the Housing Office, seems like no one have got that place yet.Strange. |

QUOTE(pangping1510 @ Feb 23 2008, 12:00 AM) $200 sounds really expensive for Kingsford..is the house furnished? Have you checked where is ur faculty situated? is it near the upper or lower campus? if you stay in Kingsford, have you thought of travelling a bit further to coles/woolies? to me, you can get a place at randwick with $200. security in kingsford is not that good too, compared to randwick.. I didnt rent that place in the end.I decided to take up another place in Kingsford with offer full board and the contract only lasts till July. After that im free to go or continue staying there. The rent is 185 per week.Food and laundry is provided.I guess i'll stay there for a semester to adapt to the uni life while i dont have to worry about food. Problem solved for now. |

QUOTE(kamagotchi @ Feb 26 2008, 12:19 PM) We should! Some international students brought up a case against the NSW government to allow us to be entitled for the concession, we actually won the case but the NSW government took it to the federal court. I guess we'll have to wait for like 3 more yrs until this case settles. 3 years? My gawd.QUOTE(KVReninem @ Feb 26 2008, 12:27 PM) to me it is basically stupid, why you wanna giv exchange student smth cheaper while intl student come in and solve your shortage and economic probs long run pay more. Isn't it both of them are the same?Except one of them stay in Aus longer. |

QUOTE(haya @ Feb 26 2008, 05:36 PM) Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only 2 states where international students DO NOT get concession fares for public transport are NSW and Vic. QLD, SA, WA and TAS all give their international students concession fares. And I doubt anyone here is in NT. WTH?The living cost in these 2 states is high enough and they still want to suck more on public transport. Luckily i live near to the uni. Added on February 26, 2008, 7:11 pm QUOTE(limeuu @ Feb 26 2008, 07:00 PM) so stop complaining......if there is any complain you want to make, it should be against YOUR own government, why you have/need to go overseas to study, when your parents have paid msian taxes all their lives, and got nothing back in return......... Yeah, even we complain to our government, they wont do anything.Complain for what?Want to go to Kampung ISA?This post has been edited by Cheesenium: Feb 26 2008, 07:11 PM |

I dont mind having public transport concession since we never pay a single cents to the Aus gov.it's just the current situation is too much for us.
Citizen,PRs and exchange students has 50% discount. I guess i'll just avoid it if possible to keep the living cost down.Walking is good for health too. It's not a big deal compare to the NEP. This post has been edited by Cheesenium: Feb 26 2008, 09:04 PM |

I have to change my browser now. It's downloading all the pictures i dont need. I think my Maxis Broadband is better.Even it takes a week to dl a demo,at least i get it in the end.
