Part A,
I do not exercise before playing anything. Just take my instruments and play it.
I think your teacher did not teach you the real way of holding the bow. Your thumb finger do not have to go into the fork fully, half of it is fine. Your thumb and pinky will hurt after you grab and grip your bow too strong, do not grab it, just take the bow softly.
For your left arm, goodness, it is hard to describe in words. Make sure your thumb and your index finger are touching the end of the violin neck. Also do not grab the neck with your left hand, just put your left arm in position without using any strength on the violin.
I wonder, why your teacher did not teach you these basics first.
thanks for the advice...
that's the reason i'm a little disappointed in the teacher at the first lesson cos he didnt emphasize on posture.
but on second lesson, i was thinking i better be proactive and ask... so i asked more questions on posture and he taught.
imo, good violinist might not be a good teacher.....
and that's why i sounded like i am looking for another teacher... cos i dont want to so use to the wrong posture that it is hard to change in future...
but i dunno how to tell them i wanna leave, if i am leaving?

Part A,
Part B,
CDs...hmmm..I used to buy CDs back in the old days in Tower Records classical section, those are like few years ago. Today, it is all gone, even jazz.
So right now I am buying classical music on iTunes Store, the best part is I can choose individual track on every CD list. But I am still buying CDs but the place I know is my music school. My music school have a bigger variety of classical.
where's your music school? do they sell complete works or something like tat?

Part A,
Questions:
1. How old are you?
2. Why do you choose to learn violin?
3. How many music classes you have attended? 1. kinda old

30+
2. i have always been interested in violin when i was young. but piano was a trend ... so like all kiasu parents i was pushed to learn piano. well i would have like it if not because the lessons were so exam oriented... and teacher didnt make it as enjoyable. and i suck in piano....

maybe lack of practice now.... i love its sound.... dunno why but i just love it... and i'm a great fan of classical music...
3. coming tues will be my third violin lesson...
in msia i guess this thing called trial classes is practically unheard of. i dont mind paying for them but at least i am able to gauge in the trial classes that the teacher is suitable for me or perhaps i'm suitable for the teacher... i saw sim got trial class but it's too far for me to travel to any of their music centers.
maybe you can pm me your lesson details (which day/time/slot available, fees, etc)?
