Hi franstormer,

What I do is I play scales before playing anything else to sort of "warm up". I find it helps a lot.

Speaking of spiccato, I have great difficulty in controlling my bow - it bounces around WAY to much and I can't get the timing right either.

hi all,

does using a shoulder rest affect the sound of the violin?

yeah... noticed that too. My violin seems to sound brighter without the shoulder rest. But after a few minutes of practicing, my collar bone hurts like hell.

Hi there everyone,

I was wondering if there is any community orchestras in Selangor or even in Malaysia at all.

Have been itching to audition for one for quite some time now. Playing alone is... well... lonely.

yeah... I am quite interested. What's d name of ur orchestra? Do u have a website or sth where I can read up more on? Do u have any minimum requirements or do I just come for an audition?

P.S: Is this by any chance the Puchong Mini Orchestra under d baton of Romualdo Danny Francisco?

YES! It is conductor Romualdo Danny Francisco. You want his contact?

What I know is, I went for the audition and they accepted me. They did not ask me anything about my qualification.

Cool! So how do I go about auditioning to join? Where are your rehearsals? I may not be able to join immediately as my finals are around the corner. Soonest would be November.

I'm really excited. Hahaha...

I do not know, maybe you can give him a call or something.

The rehearsals are nearby IOI Mall Puchong. I will tell you where exactly if you want.

yeah, actually that'll be great. Perhaps you can PM me his number or email or both. smile.gif

Thanks!

hi guys,

have been really bz wif assignments n didn't have time to check on this thread. If u guys wanna get performance violins between RM6,000 to 5-figured prices, lemme know. I know of this importer near SS2 but not sure if he's still there now. He used to bring in violins from all over the world but has stopped for a good few years now. He's really really old. Now he's just teaching vocal. The stuff he has in his stock are... well, hidden treasures. To me at least.

If I have time I'll go by there to see whether he's still there.

I bought mine from him as well. I play a 1989 Chen Jen Nong biggrin.gif

hmmmmmm... i dunno... need to go see if his shop is still there. If he's still there, I think he can wait. But b4 u choose ur violin, it's better if u go audition them first. I tried a lot of violins but opt for the chinese one. I didn't even know who chen jen nong was at that time.

Came back home, googled n shocked myself.

HAHAHAHA!

Harmony? The one in PJ uptown? They have a very complete collection of books n accessories there. But if ur looking for higher range violins n bows, I don't think they have. Went there looking for a bow last time. Ended up buying a Synwin from Amadeus at Sec 14

uhh... most popular choices would be german, italian, french violins. My first was a piece from the republic of czech.

decided to go with the Chinese one after trying a few. May not be the same for everyone but I feel that it suits me best.

replying your questions on the other thread u created, I'm using Thomastik Dominant strings. U can also go for Pirastro but I like Dominant better.

Hey! I am curious, where did you brought your Czech violin?

Hi paramore,

My teacher got it for me. It was my first full-size. It was from Harmony I think.

Ohh..I see. You have not tell us how is your Czech treating you? biggrin.gif

I feel it doesn't really suit me as I find it difficult to bring the sound out. My teacher and duet partner were able to produce beautiful tones with it. Perhaps I need to improve on my technique. Haha...

My chinese piece is brighter and more responsive so that's why i've been playing it more lately.
