although not asking me...

a few shops have fine violins as well as old violins:

1. chamber music at sungei wang 3rd floor.

2. euro music at hartamas shopping center, has much higher range violins.

3. carismen dolce, also at hartamas shopping center.

not sure about anywhere else...

abt the mic u used in recording... cant u clip it to the bridge? or is the mic too big?
is this the result of poor quality strings or too much practice?[attachmentid=873743]
*
can be both.generally strings should be change after a year or less with everday playing...e string which is the thinnest would usually wear off 1st

you can teach violin anytime if you're prepared your homework, means what to teach, when to teach, and how to teach. pass on your knowledges to the next generation.

please keep in mind that, the responsibility of teaching a beginner is much greater than anything else. smile.gif

yes i know that it takes more paitence to learn violin compare to other instruments once u dont teach the beginner well and they dont progress right its very difficult to change their way of playing. i know it since i encounter it myself;p but question is where to start? what book to read? i had read suzuki method of playing...any other books u want to recommend?

haha same here, but ofc i still keep up with playing the cello. particularly classical stuff to maintain my technique and most other times light stuff along with a few friends.

Just for the record kimmie, have you ever played in an orchestra before?

Kinda hard pressed to find good orchestras these days. =/
*
mmmm orchestras no...wedding , church, functions yes....
although i did play in piano concert when i was 10 haha~

sorry for the late reply.

i don't know of any book that can give much informations on teaching cause i never read them. all i do is to search youtube and visit forums, and learn quite a lot from there.

currently imho suzuki method is the best and the fastest to learn, but like any other methods, there's no perfect one. suzuki method is like teaching a young kid to learn a language without read and write first, they learn to speak and listen. so it means there gonna be problem with sight reading in the future. so it must be accompanied with other books, let the kid stop and play other book ("making the great" is very good book, another one is "party time" but that's all i can remember about the book name).

the rest, is your own creativity. it took me quite a long time to consider and prepare teaching, i ask my self questions like "am i responsible enough for my student?" "am i willing to learn how to teach?" "am i willing to deal with kids?".

if you have doubts, ask your teacher about his/her opinions on how to teach, and remember to treat your teacher a nice meal for that. smile.gif

Nope, i'm proud to be a violist, and i love viola. =D Love the sound esp ^^ Yesh i can read auto cleft. Well, just that we don't have much solo pieces to play on, cos a lot of the solo / concerto pieces are written for violin only. =( But still, i'm happy that I'm a violist =D

lol, normaly when i say "I play the Viola", they will go like "u play a what? violin?" haha. Face it, everyone knows bout violin, and cello, probably double bass, but not viola. xD

had once tried viola:) very soothing and mellow sound:) unfortunately not much music piece for that instrument in mysia
