Best if you ask your teacher to help you out, but actually not really the best depends on your teacher (as some teacher will potong you with overpriced instruments cause he want to earn). But luckily my teacher is kind enough to happily bring nice instruments for me.

If you're serious about learning violin, you can always buy violin around RM1500 which you have a better sound to start with as the RM300 violins (some) has really harsh/thin sound. Don't worry about the resale value, violin generally has high resale value, with care from owner you can resale your violin virtually at same price you bought, and sometimes more cause violin's sound quality will increase over the years of usage.

Instruments available at Euro music is pretty nice.

Little ice,true. There are both bright and also mellow sounding violins. I prefer the mellow as its not harsh like bright violins. There are bright violas too! So it doesnt mean that all violas are mellow sounding!

It's better to learn Violin 1st and then move on to viola. I love Viola's rich bassy tone more than violin. Viola deserves more recognition here.

I am a college student studying design. Thanks to my parents, I could not study music. I attend music school all by myself. I have plans to study for music after my current course, so right now I am studying music history in the mean time. My point is..keep your dreams alive.

About buying violins, I heard there is RM6, 000 German handmade but I do not know whether it is a genuine or not.

have been really bz wif assignments n didn't have time to check on this thread. If u guys wanna get performance violins between RM6,000 to 5-figured prices, lemme know. I know of this importer near SS2 but not sure if he's still there now. He used to bring in violins from all over the world but has stopped for a good few years now. He's really really old. Now he's just teaching vocal. The stuff he has in his stock are... well, hidden treasures. To me at least.

If I have time I'll go by there to see whether he's still there.
