QUOTE(pigcat @ Mar 24 2008, 01:21 PM) Best if you ask your teacher to help you out, but actually not really the best depends on your teacher (as some teacher will potong you with overpriced instruments cause he want to earn). But luckily my teacher is kind enough to happily bring nice instruments for me. If you're serious about learning violin, you can always buy violin around RM1500 which you have a better sound to start with as the RM300 violins (some) has really harsh/thin sound. Don't worry about the resale value, violin generally has high resale value, with care from owner you can resale your violin virtually at same price you bought, and sometimes more cause violin's sound quality will increase over the years of usage. Instruments available at Euro music is pretty nice. pigcat has a good point there....if u r really serious this may be a long term passion...get a good violin...the china ones are like dead wood..good enough to be burn but its great for ppl who are not really sure violin are their thing:)

usually violin would come in a case....bow included...but rosin, shoulder rest, books, extra strings must be brought separately....prices for china made beginner violin would cost around rm300-rm500 i guess

QUOTE(little ice @ Jul 10 2008, 08:05 PM) unless one go oversea to buy the instruments, you cannot try the instrument if buying off internet. and paying the air ticket, i think buying locally is better... ohhh the net....never buy from net!seriously unless its a cheapo china violin which doesnt make much diff. speaking of my former teacher he brings down a few from his supplier he knew for ages and there are not bad.i brought mine from his student who then upgraded his violin so he sold mine to me:) btw anyone played i will be here song on violin before? im going to play for next weeks wedding...

QUOTE(empire @ Sep 7 2008, 01:14 AM) Little ice, true. There are both bright and also mellow sounding violins. I prefer the mellow as its not harsh like bright violins. There are bright violas too! So it doesnt mean that all violas are mellow sounding! It's better to learn Violin 1st and then move on to viola. I love Viola's rich bassy tone more than violin. Viola deserves more recognition here. my former music teacher has been promoting to try china violin apprantely its been better now:) its bright as in not much effort to play loud; some can be quite good Added on September 12, 2008, 9:28 amQUOTE(skeat89 @ Sep 12 2008, 02:58 AM) Hey everybody!
I'm a newbie! *waves frantically*
But you probably have noticed that already. Meh. Anyways i want to learn how to play violin and is wondering is there any good place to learn near tropicana, PJ? I just moved there so i'm not sure. I know the Yamaha HQ is pretty near my new house but do they offer violin lesson there? Lol. Would yamaha be more expensive than the erm non-yamaha ones? Lol. And oh oh is there any place to learn in One U? hiya there welcome!!!:D as far as i know there is one in the curve maybe u should try looking around ss2.i could also search around for anyone who teaches there but no promise:) yamaha most of the time its more expensive la:) but easier as in if ur teacher has moved on they would find a replacement for u:) This post has been edited by kimmie: Sep 12 2008, 09:28 AM

i brought my german handmade violin 5-6 years ago rm3000 very cheap 2nd hand student dont mind letting go for better violin.i want to upgrade to a performer but the violin im having so much sentimental value i rather keep for my sis or spare.regarsd to playing violin everyday is true it will season the violin some ppl are even payed to play on each so that it doesnt loose its warm quality:) and of coz prac everyday will improve ur skills as well Added on September 24, 2008, 2:17 pmQUOTE(Paramore @ Sep 24 2008, 01:03 PM) I am a college student studying design. Thanks to my parents, I could not study music. I attend music school all by myself. I have plans to study for music after my current course, so right now I am studying music history in the mean time. My point is..keep your dreams alive. About buying violins, I heard there is RM6, 000 German handmade but I do not know whether it is a genuine or not. be aware that sometimes china made violin were brought to german to polish and varnish and tadah! here goes ur half german violin:) This post has been edited by kimmie: Sep 24 2008, 02:17 PM

QUOTE(kerazul @ Sep 25 2008, 08:44 AM) hi guys, have been really bz wif assignments n didn't have time to check on this thread. If u guys wanna get performance violins between RM6,000 to 5-figured prices, lemme know. I know of this importer near SS2 but not sure if he's still there now. He used to bring in violins from all over the world but has stopped for a good few years now. He's really really old. Now he's just teaching vocal. The stuff he has in his stock are... well, hidden treasures. To me at least. If I have time I'll go by there to see whether he's still there. I bought mine from him as well. I play a 1989 Chen Jen Nong make a trip:) we'll post it up here why not?
