wow ... this 1.1.3 is really going nuts !

think i'll hang on for a while with 1.1.2 until there's a proper 1.1.3 with unlocked 4.3.13G BB.

Can't afford to mess up my unit coz it's my everyday phone tongue.gif

Guys, please bear in mind.

A LOT of the problems usually comes from the not-so-clear instructions they currently have online. Are the instructions going to get better? I highly doubt it - up till now I haven't seen a complete guide for jailbreaking any versions - there's always some minor detail missing out in one guide that I can find in another.

I would say a majority of the problems you see here are mostly a result of 'upgrades' - because of the various amazing and wonderful things you can do to your iPhone, you can't expect a simple-script file to upgrade everything perfectly. So there WILL be problems if you upgrade from a not-so-pristine version of iPhone.

Also if you don't do this upgrade exercise often enough and get familiar with yourself on how the iPhone really works, it's just going to get more and more 'risky' for you.

As with all upgrades, backup all your contacts information and everything and you should be fine! Just remember, "if it can go wrong IT WILL!" - so allocate yourself a few extra hours if you're going to jailbreak to 1.1.3 - all hacks are like that.

Currently, as of now the official jailbreak from the devteam have only a few valid issues. The rest of the issues brought up are mostly from people upgrading from their own mangled-up iPhones. I've gone from 1.1.1 to 1.1.3 and back and forth so many times it's almost second nature for me now to restore and recover - and to do it from a pristine iPhone, I would say the results are *very* predictable. You'll always know how the outcome will be after a few times.

Now onward to the "valid" problems if you upgraded from a pristine iPhone would be the following thus far..

1. Contacts won't sync. But there's already a patch out.
2. AppSupport - some of you guys say it doesn't work - double check the permissions! Look here - http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=25487
3. Wifi settings works for me! And they're retained properly too. So if yours doesn't, it's quite likely you messed up somewhere.
4. Installer app won't install anything - you never upgrade to latest Installer before going to 1.1.3.. you'll have to restore and do it again very likely! Just to make sure everything's A-okay
5. Google locate doesn't work - install LocateMe or Navizon and it'll be fixed.

Here's a thread that might help you all
http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=26054

For those of you attempting to upgrade yourself for the first time, it's VERY IMPORTANT to know your roots! (eg. how was your iPhone jailbroken in the first place. Did you do it yourself? Which method did you use? From which version etc?) - as how it was done prior to this, will affect the outcome of your 1.1.3 jailbreak.

Also this phone wasn't really made for use in Malaysia - so those of you with localized telco problem, it is kinda 'expected' but I'm sure that's what we're all here for right? To share fixes that is applicable for our own local telcos smile.gif

Bottomline - if you don't learn it the hard way, it'll always feel "risky" - so the only way to take care of 'gatal tangan' is just to scratch it regularly! tongue.gif

(Bluetooth is working fine for me - though there's a post saying that you just need to reset the iPhone and resync with your bluetooth device to make it work? or something like that - it's one of those 'rarer' problems)

For those of you who went to 1.1.3 and didn't like it and want to get back..

If you ibrickr/devteam jailbreaked it to 1.1.3.. restoring to 1.1.1 I can say is very simple. Put phone in DFU mode, shift-restore to 1.1.1. You might need to downgrade the baseband (i.unlock.no repository has it) as well for it to work in 1.1.1 (since it's likely you guys have 1.1.2 version of baseband). I don't quite know if a direct downgrade to 1.1.2 is possible? I wouldn't really know how to jailbreak it directly from 1.1.2? I do believe you have to go to 1.1.1, oktoprep it then go back to 1.1.2.. so yeah...

If it's a case of accidentally UPGRADED to 1.1.3 via Itunes, you probably going to have the new baseband and you will need to do a baseband downgrade.

Oh one more thing, to those of you guys looking for help, you REALLY have to put more effort into telling us what went wrong, and how you did what you did to get to where you are now. What were you doing before. You can't just tell us "Help my 1.1.3 is not working!"... just like how you can't tell a doctor "I feel funny here today.."

You gotta give us more to work on!

how can i downgrade from 1.1.3 to 1.1.2 back? this is a noob question, so please go ahead and flame me, but it is not my luck today to find info on google
*
Depending on HOW you went to 1.1.3 in the first place. Was it a jailbreak, or did you officially upgrade?

If it was jailbreak, here's how I would do it, there's probably a better method out there..

1. Put phone in DFU mode.
2. iTunes shift-restore to 1.1.1. Probably get error, use Ibrickr 0.91 to get out of that funny recovery mode
3. Jailbreak usual normal means *#301# etc..
4. Install BSD sub, update installer, get oktoprep
5. If need to downgrade baseband to 1.1.1's version
6. Shift-UPDATE to 1.1.2, jailbreak using touchfree, get anysim 1.2.1u, turn on airplane mode and run it to unlock baseband if necessary..

That should be it ! (ps -your Google-Fu is weak.. train up more! tons of stuff on this 1.1.3->1.1.2 on the interweb! - even megatron posted a link about it in post #112.. not sure if your post was before or after his.. but try to read back acouple of posts back)

Wahh.. it's been awhile since I last checked in. Any users (here) wanna share their experiences on the 1.1.3, besides battling with the appsupport & syncing issues?

In 1.1.2 there was a post in MMi about the perks of 1.1.2. i.e. phone more snappier, fsb increase etc. What about 1.1.3? Tried googling around but can only find description about the new functions for maps and springboard.

Here's a few more fixes for more commonly known problems.

Term-vt100 cannot login.
QUOTE
Add the following source to installer: http://www.trejan.com/irepo/ and install the following fixes found under "Tweaks (1.1.3)" in that order:
SUID Lib Fix
Term-vt100 SUID fix

If you are like me using the latest build (206) where Term-vt100 has been renamed to Terminal, issue the following command instead of installing Term-vt100 SUDI fix (again after having installed the SUID lib fix first):

/bin/chmod +s /Applications/Terminal.app/Terminal

Login using root/alpine should work now.
Installer issues.. (people should just install BossTools 0.35 and move their stuff to the other partition right from the beginning.. what were these ppl thinking!)

QUOTE
Ok these are actually two very simple problems!

First, the solution to the "Main script execution failed" error.
Make sure you are running Installer 3.0b10 and connect to your phone via SSH with Putty (Terminal on OSX?) then issue the following commands:

Code:
cd /Applications
chmod +s Installer.app/Installer
chown -R root:wheel Installer.appThis allows Installer.app to be run under the 'mobile' user. This should only be necessary with the Dev Team method because they have everything setup to run under the 'mobile' user or something (as it should be to be compatible with the SDK). Nate's method doesn't set you up this way, so this fix shouldn't be needed, but the SDK might be broken... time will tell.

Second, the problem with Installer crashing on the "Installing..." step is that you are simply out of room on your root partition! The 1.1.3 Firmware is the biggest yet, and almost completely fills the ~300mb root partition (especially once BSD, SSH, and Installer have been installed). After these three are installed (which everyone really should have), you are left with like 1mb left in your root partition on 1.1.3. Obviously, not enough. There are guides out there on how to move your /Applications folder to your /private/var partition so I'll leave you to find them yourselves. Bosstool.app used to do this for you, but seems to be broken with 1.1.3. Also note that most of the guides have you copy your Applications directory to /var/root... I think with 1.1.3 (Dev Team method at least) this should be changed to /var/mobile.

Umm.. I think that's it, any questions?

Actually, mine uses lesser steps.

1. Restore 1.1.1
2. Jailbreak using jailbreakme.com
3. Install Oktoprep
4. Upgrade to 1.1.2
5. Jailbreak 1.1.2
6. At this point you're carrier should show up, without having to downgrade baseband or anything.
7. Jailbreak to 1.1.3 using Softupgrade

* You don't have to downgrade baseband because when you restore the firmware to 1.1.1, you are still on the 1.1.2 baseband. even if you updated to 1.1.3, your baseband is still a 1.1.2 baseband. So, basically your SIM is already unlocked, and it just needs the 1.1.2 firmware for the carrier to show.

This saves a lot of time if you plan to experiment with your 1.1.3>1.1.1>1.1.2>1.1.3

Hope this is helpful to all

This is exactly one of those minor details they left out. On some cases when you guys execute "sh install.sh".. your console will seem to have frozen 1-2 second into the execution - your window might even seem to have hanged and become not-responsive.. (for me it happened).. but it's still downloading - if your wifi connection is stable.

How do you check? Take putty for a spin! Go in, locate /var/private/ and do a ls -l continuously a few time and see if the file called "restore.zip" increases in size or not.

They ALWAYS redownload that silly firmware from Apple's site and it's DARN SLOW...

This is one way to check if it's still working or not - at least that's how I know wink.gif

Can you list out what kind of error *exactly* in detail so we can know what problem you're facing exactly? Cause even error numbers that show up in iTunes will provide a big clue to what went wrong you know smile.gif

So to answer the question on everyone's mind if 1.1.3 is worth it.. HELL yes it is! IF you are familiar with the process wink.gif
To those using Nate's JB, just stick with Nate.. I think somehow it's a lot more compatible with the apps. I'm still having one or two small issues regarding apps on my devteam's version.. for example.. Locations 0.20 by Andreas Linde, the web-cam image grabbing programme, kicks back out to desktop everytime it's executed.. sigh.

Well, thanks for the post tarpaucase -- but I've followed all the directions carefully, including chmoding the AppSupport file to 755 and the problem persists. The really annoying thing now is that my WiFi security settings are lost every time I disconnect from my router, so I have to input a 20 numerical key everytime i want to connect, which is ridiculous!

I've managed to fix youtube and google maps with the fixes out there.

SMS caller id matching isn't so much a big deal, at least my phone numbers match.

I would wait for a proper release with all the bugs ironed out -- 1.1.3 just breaks too many internal rules. In fact, I would wait for the SDK release ; if you have 1.1.2 don't upgrade just yet.
