ooo before this I just put little water for those turtles hehe then I read on first page that said should put enough water about 3-4 inches for them to swim. erk about food can give kangkung or sawi too eh? I just give them pallet for feed.

I think my Snapper is very traumatized but not enough to recognize and ignore me like Sam. She backs away under a log whenever she sees me. Why ar?

I dont' have UV Lamp in my house, so i take my RES outside for at least an hour everyday in the morning. is this ok, or do i have to get her a lamp?....and one of my RES(female) won't eat and always sleep huhu what should I do?

Hmmm... Will she be able to get over it? Because I can't wait for her to stop shrinking at the sight of me.

Maybe she really think I'll eat her. 

She's pretty much like a piece of rock in water... I think it's a snapper thing. So far no biting antics yet. Maybe too young.

Also, to place them under sun, what time is good, and for how long per day? Require any shed to do so?

Read a few posts back. A pet shop owner once told me that to differentiate the sex of the star tortoises is to see if the back of the shell is going straight down or curves out like a skirt. Obviously the one with the out curved 'skirt' is a female n the one with the back of the shell going straight downwards is a male. For me, it was quite accurate because the male has been caught 'humping' the female many times over the course of 8 years. heh  but no offsprings though >.<

By The way, will snappers choke? I've been feeding her some longish silver fish and wonder if I should cut it up or something.

Hey thanx..went to the vet already..doc said its a bad lung infection..gave a jab..going back to clinic on tuesday and jab again >.< she kinda cried when doc was examining..coz press the swollen area n jab..got tears.. so sad..

and er..wats SCL? sry not well versed with the jargon. Only one is closing to 8 years the other one is about 7 years or so..coz we got 2 from 2 batches at different time. Now only got 1 from each batch.

hi all, just wondering if any of your star tortoises have very dry skins?

one of mine has a piece of skin on its leg half-peeled off, but the leg looks fine. looks something like a dried-off skin replaced, or something like that in description.

does it have anything to do with leaving in the sun for too long? i usually sun them for around 1 hours the most, several times a week. i also set a basking lamp at one side of the tank.

ok..thx uzairi.. so i've talked to my dad and we are planning to totally change their diet and all. So do u still give them pellet food once a week? If so, wat brand/name do you recommend.

Plus my dad has asked wat brand for the calcium supplement do you all recommend? For both indoor and outdoor coz sumtimes when its rainy season, its hard to take them out for basking plus the whole area would be wet.

@slackers: They will choose when they wanna bask. Maybe its just too hot or they wanna explore. I think its normal but should get them sum UVB from time to time. Plus can share size and all?

my ST size average dlm 3 inch la.still kanak2 lg.i hav 4 of them..setiap kali hujan they must got RNS,even i let basking light ON.but when i force them to have sunbath,hingus kat hidung diorg will dissapear quickly..

when they became aggresif..that's mean, its too hot for them...sumtimes they will poo a lot n pee too when too hot n try too find shelter...
u can go to natuaral aquatic ss19, pets lover center sunway pyramid.....they both got repti glo.....i recommend natural aquatic...bit cheaper then other pet shop(not all items)....

I feed my RES with Aquadene Turtle Pallet ... is it ok feeding RES with pallet more then kangkung? it seem my RES eat only little kangkung and sawi.

If i'm not wrong..sum1 posted be4 (most prob uzairi or Samperth) that pellets tend to make them grow faster than normal therefore shortening their lifespan and natural greens are the best. But let the pros confirm tat 4 ya..

can i keep my ST under uv light(UVA & UVB) all the time?except the the time that i put them under sunlight la..

put under uva & uvb for only 8-10 hours daily only.....direct sunlight around 30mins to 1 hour(3-4 times per week)

wonder what will happens if put it bawah uva n uvb for 24-7 .... tq for the info nways    .... if i'm not mistaken, i read sumwhere that said any fruits is not good for the tort... give it as appetizer is ok, especialy when they are to lazy to eat... they go crazy for red fruit such as strawberry and papayas...
