Hie Guys and Gals,

Wow! This forum has been really active with posts there few days ya. Here's a few pics of mine. Have a question, since calcium supplement is so important for tortoise, is it the same for ally snapper? If yes I really have no idea how to feed ally snapper with calcium supplement, haha. Any suggestion?

I think its normal. Its happen to my Ally & Common Snapper, they 'SALIN KULIT' mah

That one may caused by lack of sunlight, sunbathing them would do.

QUOTE(hong123 @ Mar 27 2008, 04:12 PM)
Hmmm... Certainly the 2 torts I've is Star Tort, but I'm not sure why it's shell is higher and length is shorter compares to those I saw in most aquarium shops. I always wondering why they have longer length although have the same shell height with mine.

Maybe it's just I'm overfeeding them so they just look fat and round, haha. Anyway both are very healthy and happy torts.

But I dont know my torts is India Star or Sri Lankan Star... anybody can helps me identify them?
*
Indian ST.

Too much long beans would make them like that. Try to starve them and give other food.

3-4 times per week, to simulate their natural eating behavior. Rapid growth leads to shorter lifespan, so please take note.

Feeding them daily would make their digestive system overworked and leads to early failure.

@ Uzairi
If feed rubbish food ( high protein , low fiber)  all the time the failure will be in renel system !! But if let browse on lawn / grass all the time then no problem done as grass are low protein high fiber type of food !!!

@ Fat^Cat

If the intestine is not full how to " push " the old shit from yesterday's Breakfast / Dinner out of system !!! LOL but smaller ration into more meals , I agree

*If they are hungry they will seek out anything that look like food ie. substrate - wood chip , corn cob , wood shave , pebbles ....etc and eat them

But at the moment I dont have any chelonian as pets so you people can choose to ignore me !!!!!
*
Noted sam! No problem if we feed them daily with those low protein high fiber content vege ?

QUOTE(blazin_fir3 @ Mar 28 2008, 10:48 AM)

QUOTE(Jamien @ Mar 28 2008, 10:29 PM)
Yesterday I gave her her first "bath" to scrub off any growing algae of her shell.  shakehead.gif She was sooooo fierce. Tried to snap at the toothbrush and the running water also. Wonder how to handle her when she's bigger...
It is not recommended to brush ally snapper's shell with a toothbrush, better if you provide a good filtration system for the turtle.

QUOTE(Jamien @ Mar 28 2008, 11:25 PM)
I think she scared cuz it's the frst time she got brushed. She's still small so I think no need worry till a lot later. And yes, common more scary. Hehe...
*
Their shell have this very sensitive nerves that might hurt them, that's why they try to do so.

QUOTE(inexsis @ Mar 29 2008, 10:10 AM)
so if i always put food in their food dish(SAWI)...its ok or not ?
they will eat everyday and everytime they want......still confius here unsure.gif

Sawi is okay, since it is high in fiber.

QUOTE(ELM0 @ Mar 29 2008, 07:44 PM)
how much do you guys feed your snappers
as in quantity like 2 to 3 pieces of frozen blood worms/ prawns???
*
last time i used to feed them 20-30 of small feeding fish per week. now i only have res so their diet is different.

QUOTE(ELM0 @ Mar 31 2008, 06:27 PM)

If those vege just rinse it should be ok?Or need to be soaked?
*
Rinse should be enough. 1 more thing to take note, better if you choose those vege that have those bite marks by bugs. Meaning they dont use pesticide on their farm.

Use recycled paper pellets, cover your tank and get a basking lamp. That should do the trick.

dehumidifier would only work for a short period of time, so its not a good option i suppose.

did you use a cover for the st tank ?

Feed your feeder fish with that stuff, so that your snapper will get it too by eating the feeder fish.

Bro, dont block the basking lamp. That would restrict the heat coming from the bulb.
