Actually the CVT is the unique feature and also one of the selling point for City.

I'm believing that CVT in hot weather country have reliability issue, IMO Toyota & Honda using the same reason to avoid bringing in more CVT.

CVT is a very efficient transmission system...

Actually, CVT is very reliable so as long as you service it regularly... For Honda's CVT, as long as you change the CVT oil every 20,000KM, you'll have a problem-free driving experience...

City/Jazz owners who complain about their CVT having problems is becoz they forgot/neglected to change their CVT oil as instructed in the owner's manual...

IMO, imagine timing chain in the engine also need to replace, I'm having trouble imagining the CVT belt is invincible - as the belt face more torture than a cam timing chain.

That said, AFAIK, the reliability of the CVT rely most on the coupling device - either startup clutch or a torque converter. If they went haywire, I don't think the CVT will last long either.

Unless there's option/SC that allow maintenance of the CVT belt, i.e. replace it, I doubt it could possibly last very long.

I know is a metal 'chain' (metal reinforced rubber belt anyway), hence I'm speculating its life span is more or less similar to timing chain. Of course being slight shorter life span due to the stress it is having.

The main point is, the matter of whether there are serviceable component available or, otherwise we have to replace the whole gearbox which is pricey.

this answer is best given by honda personnel la...as we r not in it...we won't know....
i doubt sales person can tell....some1 who heading for service should try ask that...see what we can get....
IMO, it should be able to replace separately(looks to me as dumb to design something which has to replace all bcoz of 1 part)
jz not sure the cost....

According to the article I read about the new engine, the 1.3l i-vtec is around 20-24 km/l while the 1.5l i-vtec is 19.6 km/l (normal driving is closer to 18.8 km/l). This is based on how it performs on the current Jazz platform though, so if they use the same engine in the upcoming City (they probably will), the numbers should be around this range.

The 1.3l maintains the current i-dsi spec from Honda while the 1.5l loses between 0.4 - 1.2 km/l. Up to you to decide if the extra 10 hp is worth it along with the new enhancements.

I agree. If the next City doesn't have the CVT, I will probably buy the current City just before the next City launches. Hopefully, they'll have two versions but that might be asking for too much. Eitherway, *fingers crossed* biggrin.gif

if without CVT, i ll hold on for thought dy....if i-vtec alone worth the extra penny....
i m eyeing on this car solely becoz it is i-vtec + CVT 2.0(updated)
miss out either one will cut down the chance i get the car when it release....
i hope HM think seriously as i believe most HC driver there oso looking at that...
