sifus, which is the better overall lens to pair with 450d:

1. tamron 17-50mm f2.8, or
2. canon 17-85mm f4/f5.6

or just the kitlens 18-55mm IS ?

your thought is appreciated. thanks

If your budget is not that high. Stay with 18-55mm IS.

Else save up moar for the Tammy 17-50mm f2.8.

After the Tammy, go for either 17-40mm or 17-55mm f2.8 IS biggrin.gif

WHOA! u wanna know the difference?
about 1-2k. thats the difference. hahah
THe 17-40 is an L lens. meaning its of higher quality in terms of built and IQ.
The 17-55 IS is an overpriced lens which i dont recommend u getting unless ur some rich-ass kid with nuthin better to blow ur cash on, and dont want to donate to our LYN grass eating club.
The 17-50mm is slightly noisy and has a slightly less focal range than the 17-55 is. but the performance is there. stunning IQ. plus. its way cheaper than either of the other 2 lenses. nod.gif

U sure that the 17-55 IS is overpriced? Tested the the 17-55 IS owned by vikingw2k and his previous 17-40 L side by side and I certainly envy the 17-55 IS sharpness.

Not really overpriced la. You get for what you pay.

Compared to Tammy
- Vibrant color rendition, Tammy slightly underexposed and colors not so vivid.
- Silent and freaking faster focusing with USM, no hunting hunting + transformers sound like Tammy.
- Good performer even at low lit area (comes with IS). Allows me to hold it even @ 1/3s at 55mm.
- Tack sharp @ f2.8. Really really sharp.
- Slightly longer 5mm than Tammy.

My only complain is, she's a good suckaaaaaaaaa. Dust sucker I mean tongue.gif

It's a L lens without the Red ring. biggrin.gif

Well, that's why I said, what you paid is what you get. If you can afford RM1.3k, then go for Tammy. If you have more bucks to spend, go for 17-40mm f4 or 17-55mm f2.8 IS.
