I have not seen Clayton and Blood but yes to the other three, and for me, they are better films than American Gangster. I had a gut feeling that Washington would get a nomination but thank God he didn't. His performance as Lucas was reminiscent of his performance in Training Day if you ask me. He's like Tom Cruise, they both have one acting mode: INTENSE

In all honesty, American Gangster was just an above average flick. Good, just not good enough to be nominated and the Academy got it right. I've watched all the best pic nominees except for There Will Be Blood and I can say they're all deserving nominees.

juno was a great great movie and deserved to be on the list. i do hope they win but i think it's pretty unlikely. same goes with ellen page, she was really good in the film

There's Alan Menken with a damned good collaboration with Schwartz (this is the team which brought us Pocahontas and Hunchback) this year and it shows. 3 out of 5 nominations. Remember, the Academy has given Menken 8 Oscars so far

Burga - who wishes to point out that of all the 6 James Newton Howard scores to choose from, the Academy nominated the worst one by far though he realizes that its simply piggybacking on the film.

i thought it was quite good for a gangster flick that is, i havent watched all the nominees tho. which is whats interesting, especially juno which is a comedy and the academy doesnt like comedies.

as good as it gets was a comedy

So was Annie Hall who won best picture in the 70's, it beat Star Wars. I don't know what's the big fuss about Annie Hall, yes i find it pretty good but hello?? Star Wars!

Juno - the Little Miss Sunshine of 2007

Who said 2007 was a bad year in film? It's actually hard to predict who'd win but I'd cross Juno out simply because comedies aren't normally favored as musicals and animation are given a back seat in the BIG categories.

I did... I said it was an average year, but of course right after I say it American Gangster, Juno, Blood, No Country, Atonement ect all come out. and I've seen neither yet. Where are the dvds??!

There's a gulf lah. Good being great and bad being horrid.

2007 was pretty average until the final quarter. We only had the likes of Zodiac, Sunshine, Hot Fuzz and Knocked Up to boast before the big guns kicked in.

But yes I do agree it was a great year for movies, much better than last year.

Here hoping that Viggo will win it, though it's unlikely.

2007 was a great year in my opinion.300, bourne ultimatum, hot fuzz!, simpsons, ratatouille,juno,knocked up,atonement,etc.. were all good films. and i havent watched alot of the ones nominated here yet. way better than 2006!
