hmmm................no american gangster for best pix?

but got juno and another show? this is interesting
*
I have not seen Clayton and Blood but yes to the other three, and for me, they are better films than American Gangster. I had a gut feeling that Washington would get a nomination but thank God he didn't. His performance as Lucas was reminiscent of his performance in Training Day if you ask me. He's like Tom Cruise, they both have one acting mode: INTENSE tongue.gif

So was Annie Hall who won best picture in the 70's, it beat Star Wars. I don't know what's the big fuss about Annie Hall, yes i find it pretty good but hello?? Star Wars!

Juno - the Little Miss Sunshine of 2007 laugh.gif
*
Who said 2007 was a bad year in film? tongue.gif It's actually hard to predict who'd win but I'd cross Juno out simply because comedies aren't normally favored as musicals and animation are given a back seat in the BIG categories.

Oscars for the past few years has been boring as hell and nothing memorable at all.  Bring back Steve Martin or Billy Crystal please.
*
Steve Martin wasn't that great to be honest but I was a fan of Crystal. smile.gif

It'll probably take another 10 years before another movie like Silence Of The Lambs sweeping all the 5 major awards. American Beauty almost did it in 1999, and they sure damn deserved it. The Academy owes the Oscar to Annette Bening!
*
No love for Peter O' Toole or Al Pacino with only ONE?!

O' Toole none, Pacino ONE and I think he deserved TWO more. Serpico and Dog Day not getting? WTF!

And Liam Neeson not getting one? I could go on and on regarding the travesties of the Academy Awards tongue.gif

And who's the doll in your avatar? Must google biggrin.gif

None of them deserved, espeically 'Best Editing'. Had it been an award for 'Most Editing' instead however...
*
Seriously, it doesn't deserve accolades for sound? Well never mind most editing, the editing did make Bourne a tight gripping movie. I loved the quick cuts myself smile.gif

I have seen both in the cineplex and I thought Ultimatum had better sound.

This has to be the first time in a long time that the Oscar winner for best picture has not won best editing.

Schoonmaker won for the Aviator iirc, and Scorsese surely missed out on that one. wink.gif

can i know why u said those words?? u think transformers should get the awards?? cause i will laugh if u said it

What's so bad about Transformers' editing?

And I have to admit that Transformers deserves an Oscar for Visual Effects. How Golden Compass won it, I'll never know.

I believe Transformers should have taken the Sound awards and the Visual Effects one, although I'm not the biggest fan of the movie. ILM really outdid themselves with this one, although their work on POTC: AWE was probably equally impressive.
I'm merely a fan of certain personalities in the business. wink.gif

Btw Kobe can u get on MSN? I wanna ask u some stuff about college

Thought you were set on Purdue? Anyway, send me an e-mail. I seem to disconnect every time someone sends me a message these few days. smile.gif Or tomorrow? I'll log on my laptop then smile.gif

why is it? It's probably the only award show that maintains its credibility after over 80 years of operation. It still honors the greatest works in the film industry year after year and yes, there were some years where undeserving films ended up with big awards but generally and most of the time, they are right. The Oscars is way better, by a million miles than some award shows called Grammy/mtv movie awards, etc...

As for this year, No Country deserves the Oscar so don't come to this thread and claim the Oscar is serious overrated business just because you never heard of the film before.
*
I for one think the Oscars are overrated. How the snubbed certain actors/directors is just disgusting. Chaplin, Brando and even Spielberg to an extent until recent time. And no, I don't believe I am talking out of my arse this time around. I really do think the Oscars are overrated. My favorite award shows is the SAGs smile.gif

Do u really expect spielberg/brando/pacino/deniro/scorsese to win everytime they get nominated? At least the oscar got it right with brando winning in godfather, on the waterfront and spielberg in schindler's list and saving private ryan.
*
Scorsese with Departed was kinda like "Sooner or later, I'll give you one so I'll give you this." And as for Spielberg, well if he deserved MORE, he should get more. You don't just say "You have had enough. Take a back seat."
