QUOTE(kobe8byrant @ Jan 22 2008, 11:23 PM) "Falling Slowly" from "Once" (Fox Searchlight) Music and Lyric by Glen Hansard and: Marketa Irglova "Happy Working Song" from "Enchanted" (Walt Disney): Music by Alan Menken; Lyric by Stephen Schwartz "Raise It Up" from "August Rush" (Warner Bros.): Nominees to be determined "So Close" from "Enchanted" (Walt Disney): Music by Alan Menken; Lyric by Stephen Schwartz "That's How You Know" from "Enchanted" (Walt Disney): Music by Alan Menken; Lyric by Stephen Schwartz Very disappointed. What about John Mayer's Say? Feck it. I wanted Mayer to win an Oscar There's Alan Menken with a damned good collaboration with Schwartz (this is the team which brought us Pocahontas and Hunchback) this year and it shows. 3 out of 5 nominations. Remember, the Academy has given Menken 8 Oscars so far Burga - who wishes to point out that of all the 6 James Newton Howard scores to choose from, the Academy nominated the worst one by far though he realizes that its simply piggybacking on the film. QUOTE(Makakeke @ Feb 25 2008, 12:47 PM) a brilliant night for the Oscars, absolutely magnificent. I'd say it was just OK. The montages were boring, Jon Stewart was decent and what happened to the usual highlight performance of the nominated scores? If there was one I must have missed it. Boo! Burga - wondering how the Golden Compass snagged the visual effects award This post has been edited by BurgaFlippinMan: Feb 25 2008, 01:25 PM

Ellen was rubbish. Ok, maybe that was harsh but her up close style of humor did not work at all on a big stage.

QUOTE(skylinegtr34rule4life @ Feb 25 2008, 10:43 PM) None of them deserved, espeically 'Best Editing'. Had it been an award for 'Most Editing' instead however...

QUOTE(kobe8byrant @ Feb 26 2008, 11:11 PM) Seriously, it doesn't deserve accolades for sound? Well never mind most editing, the editing did make Bourne a tight gripping movie. I loved the quick cuts myself Against Transformers? Hell no. I believe for the editing, its not just about the aesthetic or pace, but as to how well the movie holds together. There's is nothing wrong with Ultimatum's editing, its just nothing special to deserve an Oscar, good as it was. Its often given to something which tackles a bigger challenge, like say, Black Hawk Down (where the great editing makes it possible to follow what is going on despite the constant onscreen action involving many groups of soldiers who all look mighty similar with their gear and covered in dust)

QUOTE(kobe8byrant @ Feb 26 2008, 11:24 PM) I have seen both in the cineplex and I thought Ultimatum had better sound. This has to be the first time in a long time that the Oscar winner for best picture has not won best editing. Schoonmaker won for the Aviator iirc, and Scorsese surely missed out on that one.

QUOTE can i know why u said those words?? u think transformers should get the awards?? cause i will laugh if u said it I believe Transformers should have taken the Sound awards and the Visual Effects one, although I'm not the biggest fan of the movie. ILM really outdid themselves with this one, although their work on POTC: AWE was probably equally impressive. QUOTE(Makakeke @ Feb 26 2008, 11:31 PM) You have to be a big fan of the Oscar to remember these stuffs I'm merely a fan of certain personalities in the business. Btw Kobe can u get on MSN? I wanna ask u some stuff about college This post has been edited by BurgaFlippinMan: Feb 26 2008, 11:33 PM

QUOTE(kobe8byrant @ Feb 26 2008, 11:38 PM) Thought you were set on Purdue? Anyway, send me an e-mail. I seem to disconnect every time someone sends me a message these few days. Or tomorrow? I'll log on my laptop then Most probably, but its just a few curious questions about number of hours of classes, studies, tutorials etc...

They almost never give the Best Score award to the deserving winner though.

QUOTE(Makakeke @ Feb 28 2008, 12:48 PM) Added on February 28, 2008, 5:47 pmBTW, what are your thoughts on this year's Best Score? Did they got it right with Marianelli? Atonement is a fine score, though I personally think Giacchino's Ratatouille is more accomplished (also my favorite of the year). At least its not a howler like the past two years with Memoirs losing out to Brokeback Moutain or Pan's Labyrinth to Babel.
