One thing good and outstanding about this thread is , people like ccschua is  unselfishly sharing his knowledge with us.

And also willing to share his hardwares too.

I believe Abel has invested quite a lot to come out with "Zero Dac Version 2."

Keep up with the good works.

May we all say cheers to them all.

ermm not a easy job to mod the Zero still studying n dunno start from where. plan to get EARTH or SUN for my CD-Player but still under warranty soo du want to risk it tongue.gif

Suprise or not abel, your old post smile.gif
I also feel Zero + 627 is dry sad.gif (i burn in <8 hrs) sound is too clean for me. Slightly fake, maybe its too digital feel. (more clean & digital makes it feel more dynamic??) Maybe need further burn-n. Only good thing is soundstage wider and better resolution smile.gif
Not suitable for my classical music. Maybe i feel that clean = not musical, less involving.
Hope HDAM-EARTH is more musical.
*
ermm opa627 character wut u say almost same as mine smile.gif ermm dry i listen that time not very dry different setup come out different sound the 627 is sound clean n abit digital but the bass are good fast n punch i duno y i try few Bur Brown also like that dry sounding only the opa2604 abit better but too laid back music is not alive

Can mod earth directly to cd player, Abel  ?

Mind to share more ?

Your AV amp is powerful, can rock floor stand speakers !

I also got one 150watts per channel power amp made by China ( Assembled for Malaysia company ), about 15kg.

Not bad, it costs me about rm 500 as secondhand.  Can drive very big speakers, best suited for AV, but I use for 2 channels  HIFI in the hall, driving 4 speakers at a time.

The unique KIMBER woven cable

Replacing the mains cable to any of your Hi-Fi or Home Cinema components mean they perform better, giving you less distortion, clearer pictures, and more musicality, so that you enjoy your music and movies even more!

Oh yeah. I am also getting some Volex for DAC. May be when it arrive I will give it some listening. My Volex now is connected to the filter.

The cap mod will be done but at a latter time. audio-gd thinks the cap mod is only for those uses long cable to connect the OPA.

Any how audio-gd new product come with the cap. it is a EVOX 0.68uF, which is natural and soft sounding. They are 2 of them. see the photo.

I wonder when is Empire23 back, cos I run to bottleneck regarding ZERO DAC mod.
*
ermm not a hard job .... Evox easily can purchase those HDAM that want to put the cap i can done it for u guys .... hehehe

Yup, moon discrete opamp! Tubie sound discrete opamp, best for lush vocal, EARTH is good for vocal too but it's less "ajinomoto", thus some might think it's slight neutral smile.gif

Should be coming out this 15th, pricing to be confirmed!

Cool! Let me know how much it will be. How did you get your hands on Kimber bare cables anyway? And what gauge size are they? I'm also interested in doing a DIY on the Asylum Cable but the nearest place I know with the components is in Sim Lim Tower. I don't travel to SG so often so still waiting for an opportunity do go so can pick up the parts.
*
is 2 x 14 gauge i got some left over kimber wire now i already make 1.5m this just my prototype the cable i will put in the braided sleeve
look nicely hehehe

Abel busy working on his power cables?

Talking about power cables, I came across these on Head-Fi that claims to perform on par or better than US$200 cables. Uses Furukawa cables and the construction of the plugs are impressive! They're made in Taiwan. Copper plug model is US65, silver plated one is US95. Anyone wanna do a bulk on the 65 one?

Abel, if you didn't check out the link, those plugs are made using Furukawa copper and acid bathed and chemically treated to resist oxidation.

BTW, is that the China made YYW filtered cable you're using on your Zero? How much did you get that and where from?

I should have added this photo coz it shows how much larger the IeGO cable is, compared to the standard one. And the reviewer can hear quite a bit of difference when used on his DAC! http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f21/review-i...-cables-326799/

Chua, any recommendation for the cap mod to be added to the OPAMP? PP (from Head-Fi) recommends PIO (Paper In Oil) Russian Military spec capacitors for best results. Any idea where we can get those here?

You also mentioned that you have snipped the 2 ceramic caps at the analog output stage. I assume this is a recommended step for better SQ?

Thanks!

Abel, please keep both for me. I'll arrange on how to deal when Chua confirms. BTW, you mentioned that your Kimber still lose to your Transparent... was your Transparent a factory terminated unit or it was another DIY effort?

And after Star, the ultimate OPAMP will be Supernova! biggrin.gif

OUCH! OK, I have to ask... is the difference worth the "almost triple" price?

Hey, Kimber Abel looks much neater now! thumbup.gif

Added on September 18, 2008, 3:11 pm
I remember that you were the one who tested between optical and coax and reported you couldn't hear any discerning difference right? I did the same with the stock toslink cable vs. Monster Digital and found no real difference... yet. Maybe my Zero needs to be completely burned in and upgraded to OPA before I can hear anything... but your Canare Abel should be better than the long thin cable that came with the USB converter from GodLuv.
*
wut i found digital coax n toslink different is :

toslink - sound abit dry n digital

coax - more smoother sound

Sound more smoother now but wont expect very huge different smile.gif now i run-in at my CD-Player i can say not bad for the price ratio.

i plan to sell my Transparent power cord actually i got 2 Transparent power cord but different model another 1 i keep first smile.gif
