i really like the Marantz 63 KI sound ... if i got $$$ i go for it hehehe
what i remeber the KI sound more forward n thick vocal even compare to Zero + DY2000

those who like vocal go for dy2000 or LT1057

those who want to get dy2000 can go to www.diykits.com.hk but all all is used one

Yes, less than that.  smile.gif
Can't afford Harbeth (3-5K), i play a lot Orchestra and OST, so opt for Bronze BR2. Fall in love with this BR2 when i play orchestra demo in the audio shop. Gonna pair BR2 with turntable after finish repaire my old amp.
DY2000 is good for orchestra too? (compare with OPA627). If favor detailed, high variation and dynamic. Hope OPA627 can provide me all that.
Actually from Head-Fi review, stock Zero signature is very close to the tube amp alrdy, DY2000 can make it even more alike full tube feel?
Coaxial is full digital output also rite? Coaxial digital signal out from Dvd palyer is received in exact copy by the DAC also?
So nice, Zero + DY2000 can do better then Marantz in some aspect. Really worth evry penny!!
*
if like that u go for opa627 if u like Orchestra and OST bcoz Dy2000 the sound more relax n slow.wut i found stock opamp less detail staging more narrow.but for me opa2604 not really like tube feel dy2000 the seperation are better and detail also better vocal more forward

actually sound are very subjective nothing is the best or the worst
if suite ur ear even RM 5 rca say very good, is depends ur ear level the higher its ur wallet is thinner hehehe agree ???? tongue.gif

wut i audit for soo long dy2000 sound very musical is not very warm or even not very dynamic for orchestra or jazz i think can try for LT1364 or LM4562 but i dunno how opa627 perform on jazz or orchestra i think we make a small TT section for Zero DAC onwer ....

i got find some DY2000 metal but it cost abt RM 100 + per pc

wut i listen .... i found coax are better sound smoother .... when try optical piano notes are rather fake compare to caox vocal coax are smoother , when run optical cable when vocal (female) at the high freq is not soo smooth abit rough smile.gif trying this Zero with ccschua soundstage 1.5 with my speaker hehehe chua just borrow my coax kena poison already he wanna try for his setup n see drool.gif

that day trying Grado SR60 with ccschua sound really not bad warm sounding wut i compare with HD600 first time audit on headphone smile.gif feel wanna buy headphone .. one new shop just open today behind PGRM inside the condo got shop lot the shop name call YP Pro Sound tell selling Audio Technica , beyerdynamic and AAD.

i audit 3 model of headphone, Audio Technica W1000 , Audio Technica AD700 and beyerdynamic dunno wut 660 model ... headphone amp using Audio Technica amp maybe all still new no yet run in all sound harsh sad.gif

abel, thanks for sharing your experience! I also suspected that Coax would be better than Optical because some Philips players don't even have optical output. I'm gonna stick to coax but will still make a comparison after running in the Zero to hear the difference.

ccschua, I've been hanging out at Hi-Fi 4 Sale to check on some bargain power chords but it seems like even used stuffs cost at least RM400 onwards. That's like 1/2 the cost of a used power amp. I'm just wondering if the power cord can bring that much improvement or topping up for a used power amp is a better choice?
It seems like cables are really overpriced here. Example of the Wireworld Stratus power cord asking for RM590 on Hi-Fi 4 Sale is going at list price of US$99. That's 80% higher.
*
if u want budget power cord can try for Supra LoRad 2.5 i think brand new abt RM 80 per meter without termination ....

that day my fren bought 1.5m ready made (acoustic system) amcorp mall i think he buy less than RM 200.
those at hifi forum sell is consider high end model even got some model is abit low range.
like me i just bought a Transparent Power cable already cost more than RM 300. depends wut u need
wut i found power cord had more different on tube amp is given low floor noise , better seperation and even more smoother sound.

Oh, sorry then, my bad.

Improvement, i dunno, I have yet to see the internals, but since all DACs are the same (low cost DAC), then the same formula goes:

upgrade caps, remove redundancy, optimize filter, upgrade/remove decoupling caps, upgrade dac pre-opamps, optimize noise removal.

http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f5/review-ze...pre-amp-269458/  <-- is this the same ZERO dac u guys are talking about? If yes then nothing much to say..
*
i plan for the upgrade soon but i still source for the Elna Cerafine or Silmic that hard to get in malaysia just only can find in oversea if cant find i think i will get for either rubycon ZL or ZA series or sanyo oscon or just find some cap that is low impedance

for upgrade the cap is not hard but how to optimize filter thats too technical for me smile.gif

Hi Najimods, may I know that those cap located beside opamp is call what? decoupling cap? I seen so people recommending Solen cap as musical replacement cap.
*
cap got 2 type non-polar n polar cap

means like those Solen is non-polar means dont have + or - mostly u can fine at crossover for me i recommend Mundorf Mcap's
if u got $$$ go for Silver Oil but this can cost more than ur Zero hehehehe

lemme know where and when the meetup is and ill try my best to make it. PM me in case i dont check this thread.

anyway, according to empy theres quite abit more that could be done....but due to lack of parts and lack of time to order the parts (he was leaving for aussie) he didnt manage to do the mods.
*
ohhh haiz now headache , empy he not in malaysia now
now i just replace the cap for the power supply just replace with low esr cap not going to heavy mod like empy did bcoz no knowledge on Electronics circuit or design if not later burn my Zero sad.gif

Zero + OP627 is one of the good combination and best buy, I reckon.

actually depends on your own taste and combination ..... smile.gif

Hi Abel, empire dude mentioned to me before, ZERO's PCB board is kinda hard to work with, use wick to clean solder instead of solder sucker when desoldering smile.gif
Hi gatevalve, welcome to the ZERO dac club. I think with the upgrade of discrete opamp and some component upgrade, you will dig out more potential from ZERO dac smile.gif
*
at first i use sucker but seem not fully clean the lead soo i use the wick to clean but i found the board not very good quality must be very patient n becareful when desolder if not will spoil the track ... i use below 200c to desoldering

QUOTE(utellme)
That is why, I nvr say it's the best combination..  smile.gif    well, don't expect RM1000 sound quality worth on Zero + 627 when you only paid RM500. therefore swapping opamp will not guarantee u get the type of music that you prefer, perhaps the more u swap the more u confuse.
*
yeah i take long time to listen n try with several opamp
nothing is the best tongue.gif if that one suite ur ear that the best for u tongue.gif

QUOTE(gatevalve)
for me yes, because even my wife would be able to tell me that my humble set up sound better.
i'm using that config.
now happy with midrange/vocal and bass...zero dac c/w opa 657
but the high still need to be improved.
any idea?
*
ermm i heard from chua that u not happy with the highs its too laid back check with the speaker sensitivity .... if too low than ur amp not enuf power to push the speaker.
