Hi empy,

I have a problem buying panasonic cap from Farnell, they are stupid to sell something at multiple of 5 (meaning cant buy 6, must be 5, 10, 15).

Can I know the stock main cap 25V2200uF KLE cap is taking in what voltage ? is it taking in at 17V or 15V ? Can I use 16V3300 cap ?

See that little double heart. that is the silver mica. I am going back to putting cap where people snip it.

Hi little,

I have a project to mod the USB-spdif converter, which I rightly see in your sig.

Can I know what clock u see for the PCM2702E? Is it a separate power source or u use the souce from USB ?

Do u mod the on board cap / XO ?

Do u know where to get XO with 10ppm, cheap and good.

I have a difficulty to remove the capacitor. My first experiment is to replace the 10uF Nichicon muse in the USB->spdif converter to 100uF Panasonic FC.

Tried very hard to remove the cap but it just dont come out, though I had suck out the solder. At the end, the cap is broken.

Hurr, try removing the capacitor by heating one pad and then tilting it to one side, repeat the process for the other side and keep cycling until cap comes out. Works for me.

For those beginners trying to DIY the solder job, here is the great guide. Never know tower can stop the wiggling and a magnifier not for old man but a open copper track ...

I think it is better I use solder wick, in order not to spoil the pad.

I was having a tough time trying to replace the caps. But in the end, it is fun.

I was extra careful, in fact, after each step, i bring it to the amp and test, remove, and back and forth.

Does it sound like Jesus is coming ! Welcome to the green Sausages.

Some really get crazy about that .

The final moment has come for the ZERO mod. Just for simple mod on the past few post, I felt the changes in SQ is very stunning.

I just learned putting higher voltage such as 63V has the effect of more capacitance than the 25V.

Now my Panasonic FC begins to reveal its true color. When I first put in (without the green PIO bypass yet), I was like so so ah. then I just wait curiously for it to unfold. after nearly 5 days, I begin to hear the warm of it and the transparency. The punch and the body begins to throw in.

I am just waiting for the PIO to arrive and I hope to be Penchuum, give me the last green sausage.

Yes. ZERO rocks.

Today spend some time further mod the ZERO, call it phase 2.

Replace the 330uF at the 15V supply to opamp. 2 x elna silmic 2
2. 2 x pana FC beside the opamp,
3. 1 oscon at the optical input area
4. 1 x 47uf pana fc at the clock area
5. replace the 2 tiny 22pf with Silver mica (5%)

phew. during the mod no light on, same as Abel case.

Check back all the cap mod. found jumper lead lifted off. Total jumper 6 nos. wow, really tough, but really sweet now.

I took about 1 hour to trouble the 2 problem. Tracing the circuit to where it come from. U need a very bright light, and use the backlight to trace. The problem with open circuit is solved if u can handle the multimeter.

Now I am waiting for final phase : -
1. 8 x green sausage
2. 10 x ultra fast diode UF4007

here is the result. [oh my. the sound is really killing me softly. Madmen, can we have ur unit for a AB man]

Sounds good. I hope the sound will be better after 250 hours.

Does anyone know the difference between UF4001 and UF4007. What is the forward voltage and reverse recovery time ? which is better ?

Dont forget to bring the unit for review too.

The mod here is easy to follow provided u read up the thread in head-fi. if still complecated, then u may post here what u are not sure off.

the simple mod on zero really results in good sound output. I am waiting for another 100 hours to get the sound stabilized.

Can see the DAC power supply is nichicon Muse. Known for power supply clean and fast.

when u want to slot in Blackgate std.

Green sausage is impresive. it is another step of improvement even on first impression.

Wow... look at all those green caps...

Chua, those are bypass caps? They're too large to fit under board that's why you extended the leads?
*
Hi rav,

those cap can fit inside no problem. Just that the bypass cap are too many, about 12 of them and to put all at the same place is difficult, so I install outside. Still can put the headphone amp and it is no problem on that.

However I suggest to do the Franken mod, u need to go through the phase 1 first.
