My first impression with OPA Earth is nothing short of surprises. Each time with the OPA release, the sound quality improve by another level.

The Moon OPA is more transparent, surprisingly than OPA Earth. The vocal is warm as in thick and airy. Listening to the Jazz at Pawnshop, the bells are not as bright as OPA Earth which is more neutral. The bass department is good too and dynamics response is so so only. Overall Moon does excell than OPA Earth. surprise.

It seems as though OPA Moon fits the amp very well. If u have solid state amp, putting OPA Moon in it will furhter surprise u.

single ended class A is really making a difference.

That DAC looks familiar. Needs Schaffner PEM and TCXO mods tongue.gif

It is indeed your piece of legend. It is outstanding piece of works. Coindentally, I found the sound slightly better than OPA Moon in unmodded zero, very very close.
I guess Moon in Madmen modded DAC will give more accuracy and imaging and more warm.

TCXO is it USD 20 per piece. Can u get it cheaper ?

I don't suggest snipping them, they're either the ground loop breakers or Zobel networks (latter extremely unlikely). If they're the ground loop breakers, you aren't doing the DAC a favour.

Just stick in some silver Mica or CG0 to replace the standard caps there.
*
Perhaps I am very naive to ground loop breakers. What does it do. What is the reason behind replacing the stock cap with the silver mica ?

due to my lack lack of knowledge, pls see how I install the RCA plug.

also empy,

can i know if the following cap were removed on purpose or there is other cap below the board.

Hi steve,

Audio gd says that will take some time until next year.

Marantz 63 or 63 KI has different sound signature towards warm and accuracy. Bass is low but not controlled and dynamics not as good, that's what marantz is famous for. However if the Marantz were to modded with 20 ps clock, the bass and dynamics department would improvement.

yeah. that's right. the wire in the photo is too short. there is no need to dismantle anything to solder the wire.

Without the earth cable, the vocal will sound muddle. it is critical to connect the earth. lol.

Well, just some poisoning, a brand new design from Audio_GD, to be precise, it's an USB to COAXIAL board, all input signal will be reclock and jitter will be as low as 20PS! Emmm ... the possibility of getting jitter free PC based music setup is getting near biggrin.gif

Seriously I dont see the clock. I guess it must be a separate board.
Just check further, this is a custom made DSP chip.

Hi abel,

audio-gd says if u add the new power supply +15V +5V , new audio-gd clock, and any times it is better than original Marantz CD17.

[of course u already bypass HDAM]

heard u are buying OPA. why not wait for bulk from steve

Looks like ZERO with the OPA and DC offset removed has some good results.

a good approach is no coupling cap at the signal path. the diy has been saying countless of times.

In short, due to AD1852 design, a small DC offset is always present. I am not sure if this is found in the headphone amp or not, but on my external amp, u will hear cracking sound if turn the volume. too much DC is no good for speaker either.

what a dilemma! it is either the voltage not have or the capacitance not have. Can I use 16V for 25V ?

Also the Nover capacitance as given above, how is the sound quality ? Anyone with experience on Nover.

should I choose FM Series. Anyone else interested to mod.

I am now split between Panasonic and ELNA SILMIC II. wat is your opinion.

-----

another question appear.

ultra fast diodes. any advantage compared to fast recovery ? price is easily double.

rgds.

Here is the comparisons chart of ELNA. ELNA SILMIC II is the king, but it may be bias..

http://tech.juaneda.com/en/articles/electr...capacitors.html

Hi Rave, I guess it is not expensive. Should be less than RM 80. I am still waiting to confirm ELNA.

I need 1 x 35V1000 and 1x 25V2200 black gate !

What is ringing? what which freq u hear ringing at the speaker ? bass, acoustic guitar, vocal or cymbals?

so if the ceramic cap is marked 22p on the casing, is it 22pF or 220pF?

What happen if I put 220pF in place of 22pF for the output noise killing cap of the ZERO DAC .
