can any1 tell me how often rabbits give birth a year ? TQ .

Why do you need to know that? Are you estimating the profit you can make out of breeding? If yes, please breed responsibly okie? And I believe that you should also know that it will never be a profit making business because of the cost involved in taking good care of your bunnies. If you are making profit, then you must be cutting cost somewhere....

Teewai,

Sorry to hear about the passing of ur PIPI. But I am really curious of the cause of death. Was it diet related. If you are able to share some symptoms with us maybe we could all learn something from this expensive lesson.

pooping everywhere is a sign of marking territory. Get it neutered or spayed to make sure no territorial marking. Else, u just have to live with it....

sorry to hear valarie.....

I have got a feeling that most sudden death that you guys experiencing with your bunnies lately is due to GI Stasis. The symptoms are very consistent. They stop eating and drinking then the next thing you know they are dead.

Read up on GI STASIS people!!! It is not a disease just some underlying problem that causes the stomach to stop churning. No liquid goes in then hairball builds up. The gut get stuck, the bunny stomach bloats, no appetite and dies.....within 24 hours....

Prevention:
1) Feed good DIET
2) Feed lotsa HAY
3) Feed fresh vegetables
4) Let them out for exercise (stimulate digestion)

Now you think raising a rabbit is easy? Not quite huh?

How come so cramp the cage? You should leave some place for the mummy to hop around.

some breeders can identify the sex at 4th or 5th week. Personally, I can only identify accurately between 6th and 8th week.

Did Pipi died in a position that shows suffering? Any loud noises that might have gave him a heart attack?

hi, sangterap wave.gif is time for me to answer your question.

i m a dog + rabbit lover.  i will not eat them. I dont sell pets for profit also.  wink.gif

During my childhood, i rear rabbits twice. their all male rabbits. I also have a dog  before by the name of Snoopy.
They have all left the world  cry.gif Taking care of pets can be very interesting & enjoyable.

Anyway thanks for the information biggrin.gif

You should make a comeback for keeping pets. But your 1st question was how many times rabbit breeds a year so I got the impression that you are going into breeding straight away. Loving a pet does not mean you should be breeding. But in my case personally, I breed for only 1 intention - to share with others the good that comes out from my breedings. So, I hope that my pets produces quality product at the end of the day. And the truth is, I do not even break even due to the cost for the good food, time and care I provide to my pets.

I always believe that the resources on this planet will come to an end and with every litter of puppies or rabbits brought into this world, if it is not QUALITY then it is a waste of resources. So for me, if a breeder is constantly improving the quality of his/her breedings, it is a respectable and worthwhile thing to do.

I have not seen much of this Kaytee pellet around but looking at their website, I believe the guarantee analysis is the best of the worst out of all the rabbit pellets available locally.

Is it easily available in all petshops or only certain petshops carry this brand? If I ever run out of Oxbow, I'll need to get this best of the worst brand. LOL.....

The protein level is high because they use alfafa as main ingredient. I believe there is not enough timothy hay to go around to produce good pellets out of them. Wonder when will the day arrive when Oxbow is widely available in Malaysia and all those good for nothing brands from Japan can go to hell for all I care....totally hopeless.

Malaysia RABBIT community NEEDS OXBOW or American Pet DINERS!!!!!!!!

argGGhHHhhhhHHhh....so damn frustrating....can't even get good RABBIT pellets in MALAYSIA.....everything else BOLEH but rabbit pellet TAK BOLEH.....

sangterap, i got mine Forti-Diet Crunch w/Dental Bites Rabbit in Petsmore Cheras... RM 25 for 5 lbs
*
Wow, if I get 2 packs of 5lbs it would be RM50. And that's almost the same as getting Oxbow 10lbs. The biggest different is that, Kaytee is expensive JUNK. Oh man....this is no good man....the wonders of being in the 3rd world country. We get 10th World junk foods too....

sad case...

The way I see it is that:

1) we always getting rejects from other countries
or
2) maybe our pet shop operators here do not know what is best for our pets. Or maybe they do not know that Oxbow & APD exist

Now we're back to square one...still talking about the best diet and how to get them.

mayb there's an oxbow seller or agent out there selling privately.......  brows.gif  brows.gif

Not that I know of. Somehow the suppliers based in Singapore is not too keen of bringing that brand into Malaysia. Just do not know why as there is no good reason. Makes me wonder like mad. If you go to Oxbow website, there is a Malaysia flag there in the distributor page. But Malaysia in actual fact do not have Oxbow. And the contact on the distributor list is in Singapore.

Damn Damn STUPID!!!!!

Sorry to read about Nino. As I went through the blog I got really confused. What did he died of actually? Malocclusion? Did Dr Pillai mention the name of the condition?
