Basically, you do not limit HAY no matter age. Hay helps with Digestion and digestion problem is the biggest problem with rabbits. Besides that, hay acts as roughage for them to chew and that keeps their teeth at the right length since the friction of the chewing motion would so called "file" the teeth.

Actually there are many more varieties of Hay to offer our bunnies. Just that only Alfafa and Timothy Hay is available in Malaysia. And that also the stock damn inconsistent. Looks like no one bothers much about rabbits. That is why we as owners have to make that push to demand frm petshops. Our rabbits deserve same treatment as Dogs and Cats.

Appreciate u taking the effort to ask and that is why I am taking time to answer your questions.

cheers sang terap, u really experienced in terms of rabbit care.....but i jz wanna clarify ur assumptions though, FYI, i did go thru that 1st pg, but it said the different type of Hay 2 feed <6mths n >6mths
but not how 2 limit the ratio of hay n pellets depending on age....well, end of the day, I really care bout the lil creature's health dats y I jz making sure info is complete dats all

When was this? I made them transferred some stock over to Sunway. I bought my supply from there.

As far as I know still have stock there. If not let me know. I'll ask them to bring some over again.

Most probably died of shock from the sound of the hair dryer. There is no need to bath your rabbit unnecessarily. Don't need to be fancy with them. They are generally clean creatures. U do not bath them unless they get stuck in MUD or something. Totally unnecessary. And only 3 months. Still so young. Anyhow, lesson learned and another bunny died. Just be extra careful next time.

QUOTE(Qool @ Apr 4 2008, 10:55 PM)
hi guys, i've just got 2 small rabbit 2 days ago. 1 black and 1 white. i think both age around 3 months old or so. the white one has a little stain on it, and i see that rabbit behaves quite like cat whereby they will lick their paws and then wipe part of their body as dry cleaning. but then my mum went and sort of bathed the white one... and use hair dryer to dry it... well she stopped half way cos scared that the sound is too noisy, but that rabbit got scared pretty bad... then today as i got back from work.. i saw it lied there motionless by the water tray while the black one is still as active as b4. then i touched it thinking that it's sleeping but no matter what i do it still didn't respond... and then i found out that ... it died! omg...  sad sad... i felt so guilty.. that poor thing, just been with us for 2 days and he died... sob sob... i'm trying to find out the root cause, i suspect probably he got sick from the washing and drying stuff that he might have gotten a fever or caught a cold.... i'm still new... hope u guys can give a pointer or two. thanks....  sad.gif

Qool,

Baby rabbits below 6 months should not be given vegetables. And especially NOT carrots whether young or adult rabbit. Carrot contains too much starch. Bugs Bunny eating lotsa carrots is a MYTH. By right, rabbits do not thrive on carrots. Carrots should only be given in small amount as threats.

Feed your baby rabbit lotsa alfafa hay and good pellets all day will do.

yes we should. As you have already mentioned most people own mix breeds and how can we incorporate that into our so called club? Can we start something that goes Mixed Breed Pedigrees? Actually, even in the US people are developing new breeds. The way I see it, the local mix breeds here are quite unique and do look a lot different from those in the western countries. Maybe we should have a breed call the Malaysian Special Edition with many varieties. Even for a particular breed, there are always many varieties. Like Netherland Dwarfs have otter, orange, silver marten, chinchilla and so on. So even The Malaysian Special Edition would have all these varieties.

Have to think about this....

IMHO, adult rabbits are easier to toilet train because they somehow have a fixed toilet habit. You just need to identify the exact spot in the cage that it likes to relief itself and you just place the litter tray there. They will get the hint and soon start to use the litter tray as toilet.

NO NO...you guys got the wrong message. Do you know what is SPLAYED LEGS?

I don't mean to say trim the FUR. With or without fur also will get SPLAYED LEGS if they walk too much on slippery floor.....

Here's the link:

I do not blame you. A lot of people also like you do not know of such thing that exist. I am seeing this problem in a lot of local rabbits recently. So, you have to make sure if your rabbit has got this problem, do not breed it. It is hereditary.

QUOTE(adriel_heresy @ Apr 11 2008, 04:02 PM)
OMG, if that is true than one of my rabbits is already like that.  cry.gif
everytime i saw his leg like that, i push the limp in and scold him, "don put your leg like that. very impolite"

i think i better go for an x-ray. but he is just 2 going 3 months old.

bro,

2 causes:

1) genetic
2) slippery floor or obesity (body weight too heavy for the legs to support)

So, when you brought him home, you put him on slippery floor all the time. If so, then you caused. If not, then u can call up the breeder and scold the breeder for breeding rabbits with that genetic problem.

Basically nothing you can do already when it starts to show signs. But you can try to bind the legs up in the right position. Go google for solution. The internet is our best friend.

Please do not breed it whether genetic or caused by you. Coz anyhow also the gene will carry this defect. I do not think you want to pass on rabbits like that to other people. That is what responsible breeding comes into play. Pass on only what you want others pass to you.

Hope the bunny's condition is a mild one. Just provide rough surface for it. Although will not heal at least do not get worst.

QUOTE(adriel_heresy @ Apr 11 2008, 04:13 PM)
he become splayed because of me or it is like that when he is born?
if it is because of me, i will feel so bad.

actually, it is true. before i adopted the rabbit, i read a lot about the rabbit, their food, bedding, habit, behaviour,
of course, also the rabbit diseases but none explain or even mentioned about the splayed legs.
maybe i din read that much or i missed.
thanks for pointing it up before it get worse.
is there anything i can do? from your post, it stated that there is nth we can do about it.

2 times in 3 days if not too bad. I change daily actually. You can use woody pet to absorb the pee. if u have a deep tray then can maybe last 1 week. you just scoop up and throw the soiled woody pellets.

QUOTE(adriel_heresy @ Apr 15 2008, 09:40 AM)

anyway, just curious, how long does it take for you guyz to change the bedding for your rabbits?
i need to change it twice every 3 days. is it too often?
not that i like to change it but the whole place is full of their poop and pee.
so no choice but to change it.

Bro,

I thought Beh selling. You also selling or you sub from him? LOL....

I got a little confused with your pricing. I later realize the price is for Peninsula and Sabah/Sarawak. Kesian Sabah/Sarawak rabbits, their food RM20 extra for 4kg. LOL....

All the best with the sales. I am still waiting for OXBOW.
