bro trevally,

Seems to be many videos on FS locked in combat, but none showing its hunting behavior.
Maybe you should make one which shows a cricket moving abt, then a waiting FS pouncing on it!
Can also show a suppow attack and say how this is the same as an FS catching its prey!
Anyway, just a suggestion for your blog.

What is the diff. betw. a forum & a blog? If the Lowyat.NET moderator disapproves of our content,
can we switch to your blog and make it into a forum?

best regards , jong

bro koppao, bro krauser,

cant help but compliment on the quality of your videos. such close-up with such clear image !.

Ya I second having Bro Jong as official videoman  He's using a no frills camcorder with no macro mode and yet can capture such a detailed video. You should see his recording technique, his camcorder lens sebei close to the FS almost touching the platform wan.

i've just been comparing my videos with others in the forum and sorry to say others are better. bro BTL's is the clearest i think.
i think he uses the Panasonic Lumix with macro function.

best regards, jong

Hallo all FS bros !!!

Last week, my internet connection crashed, then to add to that i got sick..yeah.. it's embarrassing...
Anyway i've recovered so i've taken the liberty to assemble 3 photos taken from the forum to show the size differences
betw. M-size and L-size

This is M-size, 6 mm in length head to tail

This is L-size, 7 mm in length head to tail

This is how they look when we can see them together.

Well, the hunting season has ended for me too.
Next season will look for the L-size FS. Again!

Here's a closing video for the season

Bad Movie starring Mr. Dancing Palp and various supppow artists

Good luck to all FS bros!!!

Actually intended to re-open my FS season at least after 20th Sep. But after 2 weeks not having anything to do with FS : buay tahan. Cannot wait, had to take action. ( I respect other's personal religion but my own is er, different). So on Mon. went down to the usual place introduced to me by bro ken25 way back in July.
3 surprises.
Surprise No. 1 : at around 5 plus 4 FS bros turned up, 2 from our group & 2 from Ah Seng’s group! (Since personal religion is a sensitive matter, won’t mention any names, even nicks!)
Surprise No. 2: caught an L-Size FS.
Surprise No. 3 : Unfortunately the newly caught L-Size FS lost to Ah Seng’s friend’s 2nd and 1st kings (M-L & L-size) after only 2 chops. (Sorry no video as none of us expected to meet up- it was just a coincidence and nobody brought a camera). As one bro noticed, my L-size FS is on the old side; he walks everywhere he goes, never jumps, unlike younger FS. He is a lttle like Devastator.
Since all the L-size FS on this forum are named after blockbuster movies – Robocop, Terminator, Hulk, Transformer- I will follow the tradition and nick him Batman. I thought of calling him KingKong but this nick should go to an extra big L-size black pow, and also undefeated. Unfortunatley Batman lost 2 fights already, although he won against one M-L FS belonging to Ah Seng’s friend.

Anyway got a mobile on Wed. Did’nt know it was so easy. Lasttime I used a mobile they called it a handphone – before the year 2000! The number is 84063617.

Batman is L-size so can help our group to challenge Ah Seng’s group, so SMS me if there is a meet.

Here are some footage starring Batman

Scenes of Batman

Sorry if it's not very clear.

Good Luck to all FS bros!!!

Added on September 11, 2009, 12:13 amMessages to all active/inactive FS bros!!!

bro koppao,
what special setup and steps do you take to keep TFM and Sea so healthy after several months?
i would like to keep batman in good condition too.

bro krauser,
i know you're into Orchids now, but when this period is over maybe we'll
read your postings on this forum again!!

bro trevally,
are you still active during this period? maybe we can arrange to meet up and fight/video our FS.
Currently i have 4, all M-size and above.

bro ken25,
if there is a meet this weekend or next with Ah Seng's group, SMS me at 84063617. maybe Batman can challenge. thanks.

bro BTL,
what happened to Devastator? he was even bigger than Sea. my experience is that FS can turn into fierce fighters
after being in captivity for 2-3 weeks.

bro ksiao,
do you have any FS at this time? if you do maybe we can meet for matches.

bro simone w.,
i guess you're still in HK. you must be very busy but once you're back we will go and tryout CCK.
(try to get one of those HK FS).

bro kenz,
during the matches with Ah Seng's group noticed that you brought your FS to the contest!
how many do you have? is Destroyer still alive?

bros vincent and dreamchaser,
sorry to learn that Hulk has passed on. if not, can have a match with L-size Batman.
maybe can catch another one fr. the same place?

bro viper88,
have you caught any FS recently? you're right, this period the forum has become very quiet.

bro koppao,

Thanks for the tips. I will put them into practice.
The fight betw. TFM & Ferocious is one of the most exciting in this forum.
Since TFM won, it is highly probable that TFM is the current Singapore National Champion.
I say this because as far as I know, Ah Seng's group and our forum group are the only serious FS sportsmen around.
For the past 2 months everywhere I go to catch FS I have not met anyone else.
I went down to the usual place this evening and Ah Seng's friend was there again (the one who defeated Batman).
After some hunting we got to talking and he said that last year he had 4 FS L-size and the biggest one was even
bigger than TFM. His FS defeated all challengers and his 1st king was, I would say, the Singapore National Champion last year.
Right now the title belongs to TFM. From the start the fight with Ferocious could have gone either way,
and your good care of TFM tipped the balance. Congratulations.

I have a tank that house fs. do not have many. currently still have 3 males n 1 female in it. males are only all medium size n has been in there for almost 2 mths. To keep them healthy in the tank, juz make sure theres constant supply of food aka crikets and water. 1 problem is that my plants are growing taller and taller . the net cover is already protruding higher n higher .

bro kenz,
nice to read your posting.
the fs sport does'nt cost money directly -unless people bet on the fs like in the old days-
but very few people go for it. the reason is time consuming & not always easy to catch, especially L-size.
feeding also a problem, unless like in this forum have many crickets or fruitflies (mindstorm).
the best housing is like your setup, with live crickets & many leaves, water, space to jump about- fs live longer.
i like mindstorm's idea : if only we can breed fs like fighting fish, for fighting ability or size or look good.......
however, for fight action, few can beat male thania bhamoensis, that's why the fs viewership on youtube is so good.

Welcome Urahinuk! Good of you to join us!

Yess!! Batman is the FS champion! Hah, hah, hah, hah! (Triumphant laughter can be heard from jong71).
No lah, just kidding…..

Batman’s win was really unexpected! A surprise!
Because Batman lost 2x to smaller FS, and TFM was clearly bigger, expected him to lose.
That’s why at the 20s of the fight, I wanted to stop it - you can see my finger in the video - and declare TFM the winner. But I thought I heard the FS bros watching the fight call out to let it continue. My finger may have interrupted TFM’s winning momentum. After victories against L-size Hulk & Ferocious, TFM should have won if my finger did not interrupt him. So that’s an unintended foul. Batman’s win does’nt count. TFM is still the champ.
If there is a re-match I believe TFM sure win, so this Sat or Sun Batman will challenge bro koppao’s 2nd king Sea or his sparring FS, who like Batman, suddenly transformed into a fierce fellow last Sat. Bro koppao you must give this FS a name!
Ah Seng’s group have an L-size? Maybe TFM can challenge him?
Bro trevally, hope you can join us & bring your FS to the fight fest!!!
I guess time & place will be up to bro ken25 & Ah Seng………SMS me!

The sport of FS is full of unknowns. We do not know why a weak FS suddenly turn strong, or why a strong FS cannot fight anymore; why some FS become chopsters, others remain normal……Who knows next time what will happen?

Thanks to bro BTL for great camera-work & uploading!

Jong happy or not? finally caught a large FS. But err.. not sure if you recaptured Devastator which was released at the same place by BTL just before Hungry Ghost coz I remember our Commander HQ 1 FSB engraving on the leave where Devastator was released with ' Jong! This is for you!'

Yo bro krauser, good to read your post after such a long absence!
Devastator 7-legged so he's not Batman.

Batman the dark blue knight (pow)

AhSeng's newly caught fs sparring

FS Sparring show 1

This was the very 1st fite betw. Mandai & Polo 1 month ago. Polo won

Mandai vs Polo - 1st battle

bro kenz, will sms you if i'm involved; try to be there on sat if not inconvenient.

Good luck to all FS bros!!!

Added on September 19, 2009, 8:13 pmReporting on today's FS meet at Trevally's :

These are the fights among 3 parties - trevally/simone w., koppao, jong.

Koppao's sparring fs vs Mandai
Seems to be a draw.

Batman vs ChuaChuKang
Seems to be another draw.

Laser vs Nemo - Laser wins

Laser vs Sea - Sea wins

Sea vs Batman - Batman wins

TFM vs Batman Rd 2 -TFM wins

TFM regains his no.1 spot, as I knew he would.
The most exciting fight today is Laser vs Sea.
Batman is only M-L size, not L-size as I thought, he is the same size as Sea & Laser; so I still have'nt caught an L-size yet.
From last sat. & today's results I would propose the following overall ranking (temporary) of L-size & M-L size FS in our forum group:

1) TFM
2) Batman
3) Sea
4) Laser
5) Koppao's Sparring FS
6) Mandai
7) ChuaChuKang

If challenge other groups, like Ah Seng's, can use this lineup; I call them the 7 samurai!
But this can only be temporary. Batman is already showing dragging symptoms and cannot stick to the underside of leaves.
He is old.........

Thanks bro trevally for the info for the 1st 2 fites in posting #2201; have made the corrections.
bro simone's fs and mandai gave good fights against slightly bigger fs on sat. they were in good condition.
Alas, cannot say the same for batman who is getting worse and having turned into a chopster may not have long.
bro koppao, save TFM for Ah Seng's L-size. bro Urahinuk has several fs fr. Pulau Ubin, maybe an L-size there too!

This morning i went down to the usual place and unexpectedly met bros BTL, and later ken25 there, again!
Once bro ken25 stepped to the shrubs he immediately caught 2 fs! bro ken25, you have the magic!
bro BTL caught abt 4 fs, one of them defeated Nemo in 3 chops (sorry no video). He could be a match for Laser or Sea!
Bro BTL you must give this fs a name!

Bro Urahinuk sms me while we were catching fs. Later, this evening we had an sms chat and he has several fs from Pulau Ubin
that I think will be good challengers, so i said that i will sms him next fri nite for next sat/sun meet. His no. is 91176648.
Bro Urahinuk, see you next sat/sun (place & time not yet confirmed)!

Good luck to all fs bros!!!

Reporting on sunday's Pulau Ubin FS outing.
Nine of us went to Ubin at around 10 am –ken25 & wife, ura, koppao, btl, seng254, trevally, simonw w., jong71.
This is the first time we met ura - good to meet you!
We rented bikes at $5 per day and ura led us to the junction of jalan jelutong & jalan pekan ubin.
I went into the bushes shaded by trees and immediately saw an M-size kang. I cut the leaf but it jumped and vanished.
I waited but it did not reappear. However, Seng254 caught one M-size at this spot.
Next we went down the road to a long row of shrubs. This was a good spot.
I caught 3 kangs, one M-size; ken25 got hold of an M-L size on top of a leaf, but it was dead, probably just recently killed by a wasp.
By now, everyone had caught at least one kang. We went on, but now we were more interested in cycling than searching the bushes.
I have not cycled in years and it was fun to go fast on this type of country road with little traffic. It was also getting hot.
We went cycling on the Ubin roads, now & then stopping to check the bushes.
One spot with CB leaves was very promising but at this time of day the fs were very active and most escaped.
I thought I lost an L-size, it jumped too fast to be sure…..
As a recce trip to Ubin it was good.
Each kaki encountered on average at least 4 kangs bringing the total to 32. The dead kang ken25 “caught” was quite large.
Next time we should come around 3-6 pm and do a more systematic search, especially the long leaves and the CB leaves.
Later 3 of us went to Changi- Seng254, BTL and jong71. This was also a good spot.
It was evening and the fs were quite tame; crouching instead of jumping.
I caught 5 kangs, but released 4 later when we sorted out the fs.
It was a good day! I have not encountered so many fs on a single trip in a long time!
Next week our whole group should sort out all the fs in a challenge meet and see which are the top 10!

These are the fights I videoed.
Sorry bros, my memory not good, some of the fites not sure!!!
Please post and i will correct the titles!!!

Seng254's newly caught vs BTL's newly caught - Seng254 wins

Laser vs Trevally's newly caught? - Laser wins

Laser vs BTL's newly caught? - Laser wins

Laser vs BTL's spar? - Laser wins

Laser vs Koppao's Spar - Laser wins

Laser vs Jong's suppow - Laser wins

Laser vs Sea - Sea wins

This was Laser's day. He beat every fs except Sea. But not really fair, laser had more fights first!
Sea seems to be Laser's "black star"/nemesis.

See you all next sat/sun!!
good luck to all fs bros!!!

Batman continued to show distressful dragging & rubbing symptoms and refused to eat so I had to let him go.
I put him on a spider lily plant in a secluded, wild spot with tall tree shade and he seemed happier.
He looked around and then weakly jumped to another leaf and crawled underneath.
When I turned the leaf over to check on him, he had disappeared.
This is how I like to remember him :
One evening during the ghost festival period he suddenly appeared in front of me from the underside of a leaf.
I caught him and he fought to briefly become the champion.
When the ghost festival ended, he showed through his behaviour that he was sick and impatient with captivity.
I released him and he jumped back to the underside of a leaf.
When I looked for him there he was gone…..Batman, the dark-blue ghost fighter.

Added on September 30, 2009, 1:56 pmFor all those who read this forum but who are not FS sportsmen
allow me, from my past 2 months experience in the FS sport, to note down a few pointers.
The information is actually taken from the postings scattered throughout this forum.
The contributors are mindstorm, viper88, koppao, trevally, krauser, ken25, betweentheleaves (btl),
kenz691, ksiao, yuda, evil porkchop, lonewolf, dreamchaser, vincent, jong71, simone w., urahinuk,seng254.....

1) the best type of place to catch FS are shrubs/bushes near or next to a jungle/forest.
It is very convenient to have a path or pavement in front of the bushes/shrubs.
These places can be found all over Singapore island, for example, next to roads.
They are also found in the official parks but the rangers there disapprove of FS hunters.
Very important : mind your personal safety when hunting FS, watch where you are stepping!

2) the best time to catch FS is in the evening around 5-7 pm, but fs can be found anytime during the day.
Evening is the time when the FS are seeking shelter for the night so they can sometimes be seen jumping from leaf to leaf,
or are already between the leaves. They are also tamer and will tend to crouch instead of jumping away.
Another good time to hunt is when it looks as though it is about to rain.

3) if the FS is already between the leaves you can carefully cut the leaves and put them into a plastic bag.

4) if the FS is moving about outside that is more tricky. One way is to hold out 2 leaves pressed together, or 1 leaf folded into 2
and sometimes the FS will take cover inside this trap.

5) one of the ways to keep FS is in the transparent microwave plastic boxes which can be bought from the supermarket.
Broad leaves can be folded or cut to fit in the boxes. Tiny holes (at least 20) should be made on the cover of the boxes for air circulation.

6) The best way to feed the FS is to buy small crickets from No. 1 Pasir Ris Farmway 2 (the addresss).
A few live crickets can be left inside the FS box. The FS will hunt them.
Otherwise you may have to hunt for small/tiny flies (found on the leaves of bushes) to feed them.
These can be found usually 7-10 am at any place with plenty of shrubs/bushes.
A third way is to use an over-ripe fruit to attract fruit flies.
Stunned flies can be dropped in front of the FS and the FS will pounce if it is hungry.
A hungry FS usually has a thin abdomen. A FS which has eaten enough has a fat abdomen.
Do not feed them houseflies! FS have been known to die after feeding on them.

7) FS should be allowed to drink with water droplets sprinkled onto a leaf at least 2x a day.

8) The FS box should be kept in a shaded place (no air-con). Do not leave the box in the sun or where the FS can die from overheating.

9) The box can be cleaned with wet tissue every few days. Old leaves can be replaced with new ones.
Some FS are known to prefer dried leaves.

10) FS can be taken out for exercise or fights which can be videoed.

11) Videos can be made with a digital camera/camcorder with macro function.
If no macro function can set the camera to max zoom out (opposite to telephoto)
and bring the camera close to the FS until a clear image is seen on the LCD screen.

12) Sometimes newly caught FS are poor fighters.
After being in captivity for 2-3 weeks they may suddenly transform into fierce fighters.

13) In my case, I like to keep the larger FS and free the smaller ones.
But if the FS are well-matched by size, the fights can be equally fierce.

14) Size is the main factor for victory. Usually, though not always, the bigger FS will win.

15) After several fights I prefer to release my FS back into the same type of place where they are caught
so that they can breed the next generation. Before releasing them I like to make sure they have eaten a meal and have a fat belly!

The FS sport has very few players most of the time. I hope these pointers has provided useful information.
But remember, as in most sports you play at your own risk! Please be careful if you are going to hunt for FS.
Take the same precautions as when you are going to walk/camp near/in the jungle. Do NOT hunt FS in the official parks!

Hi bro mindstorm, looking forward to your results on life-span of FS as this has a
bearing on how long we can keep mature males in captivity. We would like to keep them healthy as long as possible.
Alas even the best kept ones (by koppao) become aged and weak after several months. This is a pity.
For M-size we can always catch new ones, but L-size seems to have a very small supply.....

Hi bro viper88, wish i can go and hunt FS in Malaysia. According to simone w. FS in Vietnam are bigger;
from the videos of HongKong males the "forearms" are much longer than S'pore FS.
My guess is that Thania Bhamoensis is widespread throughout SE Asia up to Southern China;
but gene pools isolated by geography have resulted in local variations. It seems Taiwan FS are reddish......
I would'nt mind having a research licence to go and catch FS all over the region (including Indonesia & Phillippines)
and compare their variety (size, coloring, fight ferocity etc).....

Today Sun. 4th Oct. we met at the usual place and had matches -
Ken25, Spiderwoman, BTL, Koppao, Seng254, Towkay, Buaya, Jong71.

The following fights were recorded :

Sorry bros, memory faulty, please post & I will correct the titles!!

Match 1 -

Match 2 - BTL's Newly Caught vs Towkay's Kimpow-BTL wins

Match 3 - Seng254's suppow vs Jong's Domo-Domo wins

Match 4 -Predator vs Domo- Predator wins

Match 5 - Predator vs ?-Predator wins

Match 6 - Buaya's Fighter vs Jong's Silver- Buaya wins

Match 7 - BTL's Rocky vs ?

Match 8 - Buaya's Fighter vs Koppao's Spar - Buaya wins

Match 9 - Buaya's Fighter vs Sea- Buaya wins

Match 10 -Megatron vs Predator - Megatron wins

Match 11 -Megatron vs Buaya's Fighter - Megatron wins

Match 12 - TFM vs Megatron - Megatron wins

This morning's champion : Simone's Megatron
Next sat/sun : Rematch BTL's Predator vs Simone's Megatron, both about L-size.......!

Good luck to all FS bros!!!

For L-size category :
As far as I know we have 3 challengers for L-size title, since bro koppao has retired TFM.
BTL's Predator is the largest, almost the same size as TFM (head only little bit smaller).
Buaya's biggest fighter & Simone's Megatron almost the same size.

For the M-L size category :
Seng254 has 2 newly caught M-L FS. Kenz691 has 1. Koppao's Sea & Spar are also contenders.
Buaya may have 2 M-L, BTL has at least 1. Simone has ChuaChuKang (suppow). Jong has Silver & Domo (suppow).
Ura has 1. This category at least 12 FS......there may be others I have not counted.

So next weekend if all these FS can meet, we will have a BIG CONTEST!

See you all next weekend!!!

Hi there bro simone! Did'nt know you can be connected in Bangkok!
Thought had to wait for you to return to tell you the news!
Yes, your Megatron is the current ranking champion!
But we will have to see if he can hold on to the title!

Not urgent, but if you have the time maybe you can flip a few leaves
in Thailand and check if their FS the same as ours!

Take care of yourself and good luck!!!

Hello FS bros!

Bro BTL,

Predator vs Spar2 & Spar1 vs Spar2 very exciting fights!
Megatron better beware!
Anyway I'm returning Megatron to Simone probably this Sat.10th Oct.
Have'nt contacted him yet at the time of this posting as he's still in Bangkok.
He's returning on the 9th.
Tentatively, if its OK with John, I suggest we meet at his block (bro trevally's) at around 3 pm Sat.?
After the FS fights we can go and hunt at either Sengkang or Thomson......

If for some unforseen reason we cannot meetup this weekend i suggest Predator vs Buaya's Biggest FS!
He lives near NTU, Seng knows how to contact him. Please remember to video this fight!

I will SMS all the bros maybe Fri evening/night.......

Hello FS bros!!!

Bro BTL,
your videos are very clear and the fs fights at Trevally's seen from another angle appear different,
if u did'nt say that they were the same fights i may not have known!
One negative point though, if I may mention it, your uploads seem to get chopped off by Youtube;
maybe they are too long/too many megabytes, maybe u can try editing them 1st or maybe converting to MP4 format?

Sad that Predator got injured. But FS have strong recuperative power, so hope he gets better in a week or so......

Anyway i'm working on a project and probably wo'nt be be free for hunts for maybe 2 weeks.......

Good Luck and good hunting to all FS bros!!!

Hallo kjinn, welcome to this forum, started by mindstorm & viper88.
Hope we can meet up sometime this year or maybe next....

Wah Lao!!
So many things have happened since I last wrote in this forum 2 weeks ago!

Sea and Megatron are both gone! This is sad news.
Not so long ago they were the among the top fighters in the spider martial arts world (zhe chu jiang hu).

SG and KL fs bros should try to meet up at least once this year. Or if not this year, then early next year....
Maybe the SG bros can drive up and the KL bros can drive down one Fri, hunting FS along the way, then meet up on Sat
somewhere betw. KL and SG. Malacca? Genting?
The problem is whether everyone can be free at the same time....?

Yes, I think good idea to try outside SG.
KL, Sabah (Mt Kinabalu), Bintan, Batam etc.
All these places should have fs bigger &/or more colorful than usual.

From what I have heard, the 2 top fs at present in SG are BTL's Predator and Buaya's top fighter (not the biggest one).
These 2 should meet up and their fight must be videoed!!!
How about this Sat/Sun?? BTL? Seng? What do you guys say?

Today met up with Trevally, Simone & Ura for fs hunt at Jurong then NTU.
At Jurong we were joined by Seng, BTL, Peter (aka Buaya), Ah Gim, Vincent81.

There were a few fights videoed by BTL.

When we were at NTU these were the fites i videoed :

Ura's bus-stop fs vs Simone's spar1 - Ura wins

Ura's bus-stop fs vs Simone's spar2 - Ura wins

Ura's kimpow vs Ura's bus-stop fs - kimpow wins

Today was not a bad day, all of us caught fs. Trevally caught the most - 7 i think.
